This is my lifestyle. I wouldn't know how to live any other way. Living on my budget is such a comfort to me. I know my bills are paid. I know I have food. I can pay for my prescriptions and doctor appointments. When we have months of over 100* temps I know I'll have air conditioning! No stress. That is priceless to me. Life is hard. Anything that I can do to make it easier is more than worth it to me. Love your beautiful dessert!! Take care. Blessings 💕🇺🇸🏜

As a single mother of 3 young children, it wasn’t an option to work more. So I tried to find ways to save more. Now they are all grown up and with their own families. They will tell you that they never lacked anything and are thankful for the lessons they learned. Frugality is a life saver.🇨🇦

My husband & I are 56 & retiring this Oct. We are frugal, enjoy simple things like going to our community centre & using the gym, nature walks. We eat well (use coupons, FlashFood, buy loss leaders & make scratch food.) We are mortgage & debt free & could CARE LESS what people think of how we live. We use the library, I win tons of prizes off the radio & we have a fun life! We do treat ourselves to a tropical vacay yearly as we love to snorkel. Keep doing your thing Emmy & Paul. Live your lives for you & no one else. ❤😊

In these days when everything is so expensive, frugality is just good common sense. My parents lived through the Depression and they taught me & my siblings the difference between a need and a want. They saved up for vacations when we took them. We lived simply but never felt deprived.
Emmy, don't let the "naysayers" side track you on your frugal journey!

Little things add up.. Yes!! We have a store near us called Fresh Market. It's kind of a mini grocery store with several specialty counters.. Butcher, deli/hot foods bulk candy, coffee, bakery, nuts etc... Its quite expensive but often run great sales so I only shop there for sales. However, they are currently having a survey contest so the past few times I went there I filled out the survey. Twice I won 4 packs of their delicious jumbo muffins, a free bistro meal (we get about 2-3 meals out of it, and also a free 16" hot pizza... Sounds like a little thing.. But those extras really help. 😊

Frugality is our way of life! Even when we are traveling, we bring our own food! We ride bike, walk, and use public transit vs driving for short trips. I cook from scratch, which is healthier. I hate inflation, the price of fuel, etc. But, we are making it. I just helped my husband unload a truckload of firewood that we got for free! Someone was taking down trees and a friend gave us a heads up. Free wood, free heat for next winter.

Gosh, I'm now retired and have many many regrets that I was not a frugal person during my work life. You're very smart to not be wasteful. Im feeling the pinch now!! I don't have the freedoms and choices I had as an employed person. To young people, your work years/earning potential will be over before you know it. Bartering was very popular during the Depression when people had no money. They were creative in providing work in exchange for food or for something that they needed.
Nowadays, people consider everything a need, when most of the stuff they buy is merely a want.

My husband and I have always been frugal and enjoyed the journey every step of the way! My husband and I are in our 70’s. After multiple life threatening surgeries and ongoing medical conditions we have modified our frugality! My husband has times when he has trouble chewing and swallowing. Medication and infusion therapy has helped but while frugal in every other way, if my husband has a craving for something and wants to eat out, we go! We do all of our home maintenance ourself, groom our pup, I give home haircuts, trim his nails, my own hair trims and nails, we got rid of cable television, and barter for the fruits and vegetables that we don’t grow ourselves. We are slowing down but wouldn’t trade our frugal life first any other.

We used the envelope system for many, many years. Now that kids are grown and we have retired. ( homemakers never retire, lol) we've moved to FL and still make 1 paycheck work. Several years ago, we taught someone to make a trifle with the cake she despaired over because it did not rise evenly before her first party in a new house. She was skeptical at first, but later reported that her guests loved it. As for today's question: I hope that frugality once again becomes the normal way of life for most people because it promotes good traits like creativity and learning. 😁

At one point I did try life without a formal budget, but found that the years of having one meant I did it automatically in my mind! Now I go with the tried and tested formula and it allows for the odd holiday, like i recently had and to maintain a comfortable cushion for emergencies. My husband had to give up work 23 years ago at the age of 47 due to having MS. Without the right basis, this could easily have caused us to go under. Losing a primary income at a stroke really puts things into perspective and I have never lost the lessons that were hard learned at that time. Blessing to you both xxx

Frugality is a wise way to live without stress & worry! No I pray I will NEVER GIVE IT UP. In the Bible there is a parable about the 10 virgins. 9 had oil in their lamps when the bridegroom came for them, but the foolish one did not. When she asked the other virgins for some of theirs, they responded we only have enough for ourselves. The moral being God blesses those who have their own. I believe in the Bible's wisdom. Being frugal just makes sense. We are in our mid 60s and live a happy, debt free life. I try to find items at thrift stores before i buy new, or on marketplace. We don't have to stress how we are going to pay for items we don't need. My husband has saved us a lot of money over the years by doing maintenance around the house, He now has some health issues to where he can no longer some things but we do our best to save in all areas. We still try to have a little garden, etc. Thanks for the video. The dessert was pretty.

Ps. I need to share this.
I was visiting my parents in Norfolk, England, and helping with a few things, as my dad has finished his cancer treatment and just got an all-clear test result for prostate cancer.
My parents know I love charity shopping, so off we went after a celebration fish and chip dinner .
I had been after a wicker laundry basket, and I found a large one in excellent condition for £4.00.
I then needed silver curtain rings, and I purchased them new as I couldn't find any in the charity shops.
We drove out to a local ish seaside called Sheringham about an hours drive, and to my surprise, I found 18 silver curtain rings for £2.00.
So I returned 4 packs at £2.29 each, which was a lovely saving and refund.
So yes. It definitely pays to shop savy and make good choices and save money where you can.
I was given a credit note to spend in the shop, and I got other home maintenance items I needed and some cans of cream soda for my squirrel cupboard.
I'm definitely going to be busy this bank holiday weekend.
    Blessings to you both.
    From Leicester England xx

In 🇬🇧, we make a different kind of trifle.. over the cake we put a layer of fruit and then a layer of jelly , set it in the fridge, then, a layer of custard ( thick), set in fridge again, and finish with a layer of whipped cream! Decorate with either fresh fruit or sprinkles!

We all have different goals, mine is to continue traveling, it's what I save for. But that doesn't need to be anyone else's journey. My car may be old, I don't own a fancy house or whatever someone else identifies as what is the mark of having achieved success or what i "should" be doing with my money, but I think I live an incredibly rich life. That trifle looks wonderful ... now I am craving angel food cake!

No it never ends. A few years ago we had to purchase my father in law's house in order to settle his estate. At the time it was rented and had been rented. When we bought it we had wonderful tenants and then they decided to move back home to north carolina, So with the housing market being so hot here in florida at the time, we sold it. Once we paid the exorbitant capital gain taxes. We purchased outright at home in Tennessee, where we plan to retire the home that we currently live in and Florida will be paid off in 2 1/2 Years. We have two children So we plan on putting both houses and both children's names and an irrevocable trust. Last year I paid off a $12000 credit card.I'm in the process now of paying off three smaller credit cards in order to start putting a lot more money down on the mortgage on our primary home so that we can get it paid off earlier than thirty Months. I shop lost leaders, Mark downs, Clearence, weekend sales and farmers markets for less than perfect vegetables that I can preserve or dehydrate.

Common sense if you ask me. Love the bartering Paul did! My husband did the same thing recently. Our pellet stove needed servicing and the man that came to work on it needed his radio on HIS BOAT worked on as well. So they exchanged services too. Funny coincidence.

My great-grandma always said, “Watch your nickles and dimes and your dollars will take care of themselves.” And also that borrowing money was “spending tomorrow’s prosperity today.” Frugality is what allows for the more extravagant expenditures when planned and saved for. It would not bring the peace and enjoyment intended to go on a vacation that leaves you strapped for cash when you return.
On a side note: A friend of ours who has a hobby farm had two rows of radishes that were ready to be picked and were more than he could do anything with. He offered them to us before he fed them to his pigs. We took him up on the offer (I had no idea what to do with about 150 radishes, but I’m adventuresome.) It turns out that you can cook them about any way you can cook a potato and they lose the spicy and slightly bitter flavor when cooked. I’ve made quick pickles, lacto fermented slices , and am slicing the rest like scalloped potatoes, cooking, and dehydrating them. They are now an easy convenience food stocking our shelves for free. Sorry for the piggies though. Lol. I also cleaned a ton of the greens and have dehydrated about a half gallon for soups, stews, and other uses and am making a coconut saag recipe with the rest. This can be easily frozen for a quick dinner option to avoid a fast food night when needed. All it cost was some time and effort on our part. What a blessing

Trifle originated in England in the 18th century. It is still a favourite today. We make it a little differently. Essentially it was to use up leftovers , so very apt for your channel Emmy! We layer stale sponge cake soaked in sherry. Any fruit can be used over this. We then pour strawberry or raspberry jelly over and let It set. We then make a custard and pour it over and leave to set also. It is then topped with double whipping cream and decorated with maybe grated chocolate, glacé cherries or something similar. It really is delicious. Thank you for sharing your recipe. Best wishes to you all.

I just love your videos and whatever is going on in my life, I always feel better when I hear you say, "Welcome, sweet friends, to the Channel Frugal Money Saver." To answer your question, my frugal journey will last for my lifetime. Am I always frugal? No, but I strive to be, and I honestly hate seeing people waste money and spend exorbitant amounts on clothes, pocketbooks, cars, or the newest gadget. I try not to judge, because I truly believe there is more joy in living simply, and perhaps those people are deprived by not having learned that yet. If my frugalness ever leads to me having a lot of money put away, I would much rather see it be put to good use in easing someone else's financial burden, than to throw it away on accumulating material possessions. Sorry, I guess I got a little carried away there. Love your channel and your encouragement, Emmy and Paul. Glad Dixie got her spring haircut! Thank you for all you do.

Hi my lovelies, my late parents were just the same. They knew in their lives what it was like to be hungry and have nothing. They worked extremely hard and gave us a lovely cost home, we always had home cooked food, a clean warm bed and clothes on our backs. Mum died when she was just 53 and I was 20 at the time. It was a great shock to us all. I had to take over running the home and look after dad and the family. The is to mum's teaching I could budget, cook and clean. I love watching your videos because you are so homely in the way you live. In the UK we call it slow living. I think the world is way too commercialized these days and people are always wanting to keep up with the crowd. Don't get me wrong I have in the past fallen into that real and I have a year left to pay off my debts completely. That day I will buy a bottle of wine and raise a glass to the future.

I think frugality is a way of life that changes as circumstances change. By that I mean there may be a time when the Goodwill is where all your clothes come from, and later in life maybe you can afford clothes on sale at a department store. Either way, you are being the best steward of your money. Sometimes a long term purchase is best bought brand new, or maybe is best bought used depending on the circumstances and need, however I think if a person puts thought into the purchase and weighs all options, they are being frugal. Real life example: I just met a friend for lunch at a mid-priced restaurant. I looked at the menu online before going to the restaurant and selected an affordable item that I knew would also give me leftovers for another meal tomorrow. I didn’t splurge on appetizers or a beverage or dessert. I think that was frugal for me and my lifestyle/finances. Plus I supported a local business and had a great time with my friend.

I understand what you are saying. I have a sibling that is and has constantly taunted me over my lifetime for my style of living, or shall I say my lack of style. But, yet this same sibling has been in constant money trouble, and has even come to me, 'the one who is constantly made fun of' to borrow money, because of a jam that they have gotten themselves in. Oh, I'm 'OK" in your eyes to 'borrow' from, but not at any other time.
I am the first of my parents children to retire, although I'm the younger of the group because of my 'frugal' lifestyle. I travel and have traveled whenever I've wanted to, and I am debt free.

I love frugal living. I’m relatively new to it and just starting to make savings. I think it’s a fun way of life. And exciting to see savings grow. We are going on a couple of holidays this year but all paid for not on credit. I’ve also got a Christmas fund which I add to every month, a holiday fund - where I put the money I will need for train to airport or parking. So when the holiday is here I don’t need to put on credit. But I’m quite sensible with money, I don’t buy loads of tat. Lovely to see you all ❤️❤️
