    I love my Pentax equipment as well, I think the system is generally well thought out and well designed. I've been using Pentax since the K1000.

    First DSLR was a Pentax K10D, used it for 14 years never gave up working! Retired it a year ago and got a KP! Pentax is fantastic as long as you are not doing videography, but I known that and accept the limitations. Using so many vintage Pentax lens and enjoying every minute!

    Fairly recent Pentax user, as I was looking for a MF system I bought a 645Z in 2018 with a couple of lenses for landscape and portrait/studio work. I was very surprised by the results of this system both is studio and outdoor scenarios. I investigated further and bought first an older K5 with various lenses. I borrowed a couple of FA Limited lenses from a friend, followed by a K3III with both PLM lenses. The output of the K3 III surpasses what I have expected from an APS-C system I sold the reminder of my previous APS-C system and so far I am very happy with Pentax.

    As a sports shooter, I jumped ship from Pentax a few years ago because I couldn't wait any longer for good autofocus. The K-3iii makes me consider going back.
    Funny that you mentioned batteries because I had an issue at my last couple jobs with low battery on my mirrorless camera. DSLR battery life is way better than mirrorless.
    I hear you on "value for money." Nifty 50s with mirrorless systems are $200+ now. The Pentax 50mm f/1.8 is on sale for $97.

    I've been using my K-5 for ages now, but my true love belongs to my old 35mm flock. Namely K1000, KM, KX, K2, LX, MX and 2 MEs. I love these clunky, old fashioned cameras to bits...

    I started out with a Pentax P30n and I have owned 4 Pentax 35mm cameras and I now have a K70, which I am pleased with but I do find a lot more complicated to use compared to film cameras. Having said that some of the scene modes really are very good and often overlooked by most photographers.

    I just ordered my first Pentax - I've been a Canon user for life up until now, I'm hoping that I don't regret the switch, but for the price I got on the body and two lenses I really wanted to give it a shot since they're essentially the last company sticking to SLR's.

    It’s great that you like the system you use so much. But it is very personal, and sometimes I find Pentax users seemingly having an attitude of “I have to understand your reason for moving away from Pentax, or not considering Pentax in the first place, or else it’s not a valid reason”. People can be quite defensive, and it’s not always in the best interest of the person making the choice.

  • @sterkoder
    @sterkoder ปีที่แล้ว

    I had a K-5 II with weather sealing and a weather sealed lense. It drowned during a photoshoot in rain a few years back.
    My camera dealer said it could be because a microscopic bit of dust had come into the sealing. Anyway, I let that camera go, but since I've been a Pentax guy for many years, since I started taking photos digitally, I purchased a K-1 II with a 28-105mm lense, all weather sealed.
    Yes, I hear what everybody has to say about Pentax weather sealing, but I've become more protective of my gear and don't bring it out in wet weather as much as before.
    That drowning of my K-5 II still hurts.

    I agree the Pentax system is awesome! And one of the best you can buy in a relation of money to value!
    But I think saying the Pentax is good for professionals is misleading! (At least the full frame and APSC models, I don’t have much experience with the 645) The broad lineup is more for technical enthusiasts..! Or professionals that work as landscape photographers only…
    I’m shooting with the k1 ii mostly and partly with kp… I love the sensor, the lens compatibility, battery life, ergonomics, ibis, waterproofing/ruggedness and the many little tweaks from inside to outside that help not to think about the gear and focus on the subject!
    I don’t like and I think that prevents it from being a real pro camera is: slow SD-cards (just UHS-1) just steps out in a shoot and I have to wait for it to buffer, no real connection to desktop application as capture one (plus the just tooo slow USB 2 for shooting tethered anyways), the slow auto focus.. and lastly of course 4K wouldn’t be bad either but as the k1 ii isn’t a video camera that’s the smallest concern…
    Can’t complain about the flash because Godox is doing a fantastic job in building around Pk…
    Just shorty to specify my niche of work: mostly architecture, business and product.. and here and there a wedding but that’s not main..
    all in all to conclude: awesome brand, awesome camera, a few tweaks here and there are needed! Can’t wait to see what Pentax (Ricoh) has in store for us!
    Greetings from Germany!

    In 2008, when I was ready to replace my first digital camera, a point and shoot, with a dslr, I had done my research and had settled on the idea of buying a Pentax primarily for weather sealing and controls. I also made the decision to buy from a locally owned camera store. HOWEVER and it's a big HOWEVER, when I got to the only local camera shop, I found out they didn't carry or recommend Pentax. First question to me was "why do you want to buy a Pentax?" They may have asked that question, but they didn't care to hear my answer. They wanted me to buy a Canon or Nikon or Sony. I ended up buying a Canon. While I was/am happy with Canon, I still wonder if I should have got a Pentax. I replaced the original Canon with another Canon a few years back....because of all the Canon lenses I had.

    Have a Pentax K1, love it. My first 35mm camera was a Ricoh 500G rangefinder and my first 35mm SLR was a Pentax MX. My only issue is that the flash sync connection no longer works, which hampers my studio work. It also doesn’t work by connecting the cord through a hot shoe connection. Anyone else have these issues with the K1 ?

    After a while of brighter clear EVF, I found OVF is better of as my type of reality photography, it is harder to focus, same as my Leica S, but if feel more of ture when look at the subject matter, it has not be process by EVF, it is Optics, it is the traditional why of the extension to the eye, with available light. Feel more on the sense than when is impression reality from EVF. I guess that is the difference EVF and OVF.

    • @Gynra
      @Gynra 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By and large, yes. The rumour is that Nikon is withdrawing from DSLR development and manufacture, and that Canon will follow a few years hence. However, I am hoping that Pentax can occupy the niche for people who prefer to use the optical finders of DSLRs, just as Leica continue to sell to people who love rangefinder cameras. If Pentax can come up with a hybrid OVF/EVF, that might be the best of both worlds.

    • @martinhancock9235
      @martinhancock9235 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DSLR'S are much more robust and thanks to the mirror there's less chance of dirt getting to the sensor. I can also use the built in sensor cleaner in my K3 to vibrate away any dust or debris without having to resort to a regular professional clean or a cleaning kit which could damage the sensor. The optical viewfinder has never let me down unlike the EVF in some of the Nikon, Canon and Sony models I've tried and I also get much longer battery life which means I can usually manage a full day's shooting on one battery or using the battery grip for a day shooting sports and wildlife where I'll do a lot of burst shooting. Also nobody comes remotely close to Pentax for weathersealing .

    • @Gynra

      Pentax cameras are superb for portrait work. Pentax cameras may not have as good eye detect as mirrorless cameras, but that's like saying no great portraits were ever taken before eye detect was a thing! It's a matter of technique, and I think a lot of photographers now have just got lazy and rely too much on built-in aids. I have shot portraits with all the major brands (Sony excepted) and of all the lenses I have used, the 77 mm Limited is one of my two favourites for portraiture (the other one is the Leica APO-Summicron 90 mm SL, so it's in exalted company). There is something about the rendering of the 77, coupled with Pentax colours that just work.
