    Flo is the star without being out front....but it is in this performance and all that come later, that the group becomes "Diana Ross and The Supremes" lead vocalist with a backing group...
    They are FLAWLESS...even though Diana gets muddled down and forgets the lyrics in I Hear A Symphony...but it is still magic!
    I've seen MISS Ross a few times live and countless times on you tube, I can say Mary and Florence add some vocally and visually to the performance of these songs, that even though Ross is the lead vocals, it is the harmony and soaring soprano of Flo that brings thesecond songs to life.

    Great performance by all 3. They look and sound terrific. Love the short interview at the end. It's telling to see Mary gently move Diana closer to Ed but it appears Ed was willing to chat with any of them. It's a shame Mary and Florence didn't get to say more. Clearly the audience loves it when Mary states her favorite song.

      Redboy4 That's why Florence Ballard lost her temper and attacked Diana Ross backstage during rehearsals on The Ed Sullivan Show. It took two security guards to get Florence Ballard off Diana Ross apparently.

    • @saintjay8058
      @saintjay8058 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Raymond no she attacked Diana during the rehearsals for the show a few hours before this was filmed because Diana stepped on Flos earring during rehearsals and flo thought she did it on purpose and was tired of the shenanigans so that’s why this episode was quite tense and a little awkward during a few other numbers they did

      It’s so funny how people always want to denigrate Diana’s voice, because it’s light/soft; yet it is strong, effortless, clear, pretty, and easily understood. Also, there was no other singer at Motown or in the 60’s that held her VERSATILITY. That’s why anyone that sings Diana’s song never sound better, but maybe only LOUDER.

    • @RaymondHng
      @RaymondHng 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Music on American radio in the '50s was segregated along racial lines. In the '60s, Diana's voice had crossover appeal. She has a pop music voice while Flo had an R&B music voice.

    What a shame-- the camera is mostly on Diana-- I saw this when the Supreme s were first starting out and they came to sing at the Radio Station Dance.. Diana was very adamant that the camera stay mostly on her and at certain angles-- she did most of the arranging and the other 2 just stood and listened ..Boss Gordy must have set the rules and Diana ate it up... Flo started the group with high hopes of making it big as a singer.. well she was -- but to work she had to let her dreams go and settle for background death.. Damn -- had she had known that they did NOT need Goddy Gord... once they were recognized they could hav e sued Gordy and went on their own-- even for Flo-- but coming from poor and unknowledged ghetto -- they were afraid.. and they shouldn't have been-- TODAY IF ALL THE ORIGINAL SUPREMES were together... WOW,,,, it would have been so fantastic. RIP Flo... another time*
