    Wow! The fact that the paint can be picked up without staining and the colors dry exactly the same tone is amazing to me! Great video Teoh!!! 😬

    Ultramarine Blue and Quinacridone Magenta give the most intense violets and purples. Even replacing one of the colors with a violet won't get you the intensity that these colors can mix.

    These 3 colors together are so versatile, what a stunning purple mix! I have mixed feelings about Qor because the binder is so unique, sometimes the paints just move too quickly and unexpectedly in a wet wash. I love them if I work more dry, or don't need subtle blending. Your painting turned out amazing!!! The amount of colors you can mix from just owning these 3 tubes is really inspiring for anyone - especially those that might be on a budget looking to get started with a small set.

    Golden Paints (they make QOR watercolors) is very close to where I live. Its a nice little company with some great people who are serious patrons of the arts running it. Also good community citizens. Since I discovered them they are the only watercolors I use. The luminosity and intensity is amazing. I also love to visit the factory. They give away a lot of free stuff at their store and do tours. Give away a lot of free stuff too! Hmm...maybe its time to go and pick up a few more tubes!

    Every painter has his own customary color. He just liked a lot of colors when he was studying painting. As you progress, the colors you really need will be less and less. A relatively cool and warm color can complete a painting, which is no problem.每个画家都有自己习惯的颜色,刚才是学画画的时候喜欢很多种颜色。随着自己的进步,真正需要用的颜色会越来越少。一个相对的冷暖两种颜色就能完成一幅画,这是没有问题的。

    I have a 12 pan set of split primary Qor paints that I ordered from Wet Paint. I have to say that I like these paints much better than the set of Schminke Horadam paints that I also got from Wet Paint. When Golden created this 12 pan set, it did a really good job with picking colors that suit the split primary palette. The colors are vibrant. But, I don't know if the pan colors are just made with tube colors or if a different manufacturing process was used.

    I used Qor almost exclusively (until I got the Daniel Smith colors from you) and I love them. The are still the foundation of my paints, but I wanted a broader range of earth tones. The Qor do blend well with the Daniel Smith. I love the transparent colors - quinacridones, Nickle Azo yellow, transparent oxides etc. they are especially vibrant.

    • @PaulaBean
      @PaulaBean ปีที่แล้ว

      You should try the following: put down a fairly wet wash of a paint which is based on Gum Arabic (like Daniel Smith). Then drop in some Aquazol-based paint (QoR). You'll see that the Aquazol agressively pushes away the Gum Arabic. You can get the most crazy effects with this.

    This combination is actually very very versatile! Look at those vibrant colors with only 3 colors! I was curious of Qor watercolor but they’re expensive where I live, so I didn’t know which colors to buy first that go nicely with each other. I think these colors are great.. thanks for the review, Teoh!

    Hi Teoh, you mentioned getting a grey gel pen in place of the white. Sakura Gelli Roll has a great opaque grey gel pen I’ve been using lately. If I remember correctly it’s in the souffle line, so it is matte. I tried another grey gel pen from them, but it was slightly glossy on the paper, like acrylic paint is, so I didn’t like it on my watercolour sketches

    By the way, Aquazol is a watersoluable plastic, we don't know how long they will last. Many plastics break down over time.

  • @ChristinaTodd1970

    I love QOR. I have around 28 colors and find the vibrancy and luminosity hard to beat. The only thing is I find it's hard to control, especially in wet on wet applications. For that reason I rarely reach for them as a whole palette, but only when I don't have a specific color in another brand☹️. I reach for my M Graham and Dan Smith most of the time.
    I do use nickel azo yellow a lot though, especially for glazing since it's so transparent.
    What do you think?

    • @teohyc

      Different companies use different brush sizing difference. An Escoda Versatil size 8 or 10 should be similar to this size 5 Nevskaya Palitra.

    I am not sure if this is the right place to comment this... Yesterday I was at a Blick art materials store (Southern California) and they had a 40% sigh next to Daniel Smith Watercolor 15ml. I looked online and their price is $1 cheaper than Jackson's. Yes I bought 14 colors.

    I really like my QOR for my expressive work, but I find them really hard to control. This is one of my favourite trio's, but I also use Phthalocyanine blue instead of ultramarine

    • @ChristinaTodd1970
      @ChristinaTodd1970 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jiang Li, I find them extremely hard to control, that's why I don't reach for them much. I love their vibrancy and luminosity, but they don't work for the way I paint ☹️. I thought I'd love them and bought a butt-load too.

  • @StephenMarkTurner
    @StephenMarkTurner 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have the yellow and magenta, but my ultra is W&N. Do you think they run a bit differently than others? The paint seems to form little tendrils, almost fractal like :-).

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wet on wet with QoR will have the paint dashing out, with those fractal-like pattern you mention. Those areas might need more work to make the colours blend more smoothly.

  • @isabellecade277
    @isabellecade277 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm always scared when you’re doing your color blends directly on your sheet, but in the end, it works well and your drawing is successful.
    Rather than finding a grey gelly pen to sketch windows , you can do your shadow after you draw them in white. Nice sketch Parka, I like it ! 🤩
