    your natural style is very similar to mine. I always feel a little inadequate because I'd love to be tighter and more "realistic". Then I see your work and breathe a sigh of relief that someone does something lovely and artful without falling prey to the tyranny of "should". Thank you.

      I think Cerulean Blue Chromium can create an interesting and beautiful mix with any reds because the pigment is heavy and doesn’t mix well.

    you inspired me to get out of my comfort zone with colors, i now absolutely appreciate those colors separating, like the effect ultramarine blue + burnt sienna does. it made my sketches look more lively and more colorful and more vibrant! now this color mixes/glazing you did is just fantastic! makes me want to get a few more ds paints😂

    Great work Teoh! This must be the most useful video of yours that I've seen
    I've actually been experimenting just lately with three colour paintings: just one transparent blue, one transparent red and one transparent yellow. No earth colours. It's amazing what this can do to paintings.
    With my six primaries (warm and cold red, yellow and blue) I have eight possible combinations. I've swatched these, not as a colour wheel like yours but just in big rectangles with primaries on the outside just gradually blended into each other. It's helped me identify my four favourite triads.

    @bastet469 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great vid as usual. I love these! And the timing is perfect because I often shop for art supplies on the weekend and it's helpful to see the latest product reviews & demos before I go. BTW, I have a theory as to why the orange swatches came out so dark. I noticed that the initial quin mag swatch was vastly different from the one used in the color wheel. I'm thinking the color got contaminated resulting in a almost maroon hue. So if that color was what was used to make the orange on the color wheel and/or in the painting, then you would get a very subdued mix. My other thought was that perhaps this version of magenta has a much stronger bias toward violet than other brands. I'll have to check it out when I go to my local art store tomorrow.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bastet469 Different colours will have different bias. It's always best to test them out if possible. But the classic way to get a bright orange is to start with paints near that orange colour, E. G. with a warm red and yellow.

    • @bastet469
      @bastet469 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teoh Yi Chie I see. My computer printer uses cyan, magenta & yellow cartridges. So I guess I shouldn't expect much accuracy from anything I print with bright orange in it. Good to know. It'll save me a lot of time and frustration in the future. Not to mention saving paper! Lol! I assume in your field, they have expensive specialty printers that deal with such color correction issues right?

    Cerulean Blue Chromium is absolutely going on my "need-list"! I wonder, what paper are you usually using in your videos, especially while making colorcharts or tests? Cold press it seems, but any brand you can recommend?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this video, it's Fabriano Studio (25% cotton). For testing mixes, you can also try the cheap student-grade (non-cotton) Daler Rowney Aquafine. The paper is really white for that and it handles paint well, just that because it's not cotton, it's less durable.

      To mix bright orange, it's best to use primary colours that are close to it on the colour wheel, for example, a warm red and warm yellow. Lemon Yellow is a cool yellow so it's not able to produce a bright orange.

    story time: a couple days ago i was deciding which 3 color to keep out of my palette since there's not enough space and accidentally ended up with what could be an interesting schmincke limited palette: permanent carmine (PV19), cobalt turquoise (PG50) and jaune brilliant dark (3 pigments) _BUT_ the yellow is too opaque.
    drive.google.com/open?id=1gB4RNtIm4aa-cAL7qEh-9lW1F6c_p8FQ
    so i was thinking with replacing it with pure or transparent yellow but on one hand i think that'd just end up being too cold a palette, on the other hand, a warm one might just cause mud, any advice?

      +Dead channel _ You can use the same style they use to draw their character, but your overall character must not look like their character. Basically when people look at your character, they should be confused with Disney characters. Usually, iconic characters are differentiated by their costumes, and very visual designs, E.g. Hairdo, tattoos, scars or other identifiable body marks.
