Ok, this is getting freaky. How is it gun lovers have similar side interests? I have over a dozen portable shortwave radios of which, 3 are Sangean 909 series and the rest are Tecsuns, Etons, Grundig and some Sony’s. As for my choice of firearms, 90% of mine can mount bayonets and yes, I reload ammo, lol. I love the 909X and 909X2, I got lucky and found a new condition (NOS) ATS-909 on eBay for $42 recently, just amazing. As you may be aware, after about 15-25 years, depending on the builder, the electrolytic capacitors will start going bad and leak fluid onto the PC board. This happens quicker if the radio/electronic device was stored in a hot garage/storage unit. With these white colored Sangeans, if it was exposed to high heat, the white plastic parts will fade to a yellowish hue so it looks like yours is good to go though. The antenna is available for $12 online if needed but it’s simple to make which you did. Thanks for the video. Failed to mention that if someone else out there is looking for a used 909X, look around for one that RadioLab modified, they improved the filters and reception on this thing which makes it a GREAT radio. They’re on eBay now and then as well.

Does anyone know if you can turn off the "beep" sound when bands show up. For some reason one of my dogs is now scared to death at anything that sounds like a smoke detector. Have no idea why. Saw the musical Note on the rds ssb button and was hoping that may be the way to turn that off.
I hate you. I love SW I was just looking at a SW radio yesterday . I have been really obsessed with HF lately I just got my tempo 2020 from the shop, I love my IC 7610 but the mix of solid state and analog in my tempo has a real personal feeling to it. That's a great find. P.S. I ordered some stuff off the black Friday sale did it go thru you? Did you get credit for the sale. I am going to start buying a few items a month and wold like to go thru you.
Yeah it did, its processed. Normally they are much faster, but due to the black Friday sale they got nailed this year. My order just got processed and shipped and I ordered it a day before the sale lol so it will be there soon.. just this one time of year they get a ton of orders at once, Its actually refreshing to see that many people getting some prep food :) Oh and thanks for the order :) As for the radio this is like the 3rd time I have picked up amazing deals from that shop, Even the portable wind speed and weather monitor thing I did a vid on, I got there super cheap. I keep going in checking deals in that place lol.. The tempo is cool, I have an IC 718 and love it for HF, but I do love those older combo analog/digitial rigs, must be the steampunker in me coming out lol

When you have an external antenna is there any danger from lightning strikes ? And if there is then do you simply detach the antenna from the radio ?
