I am determined to get to the end, however the lack of any likeable or logical characters so far (just over halfway) is making me scream at the video. It seems either they're autocratic or wishy-washy. Or both! I will persevere but it's hard going.
Agree, Brett has written Carol to be a tedious and repetitive unimaginative bore, who has got on my nerves from book one - and I keep quitting this series. I come back every few months because at least the readings put me to sleep!
You know, I have been listening to all of SimonBrett’s Fethering mysteries and have loved them all, while the story is wonderful, I began to notice he has changed his manner of narration He is over pronouncing the “t” at the end of words and it was bugging me 😂
He certainly rings the changes with his accent, and sometimes articulates over precisely, but it's usually part of the character portrayal, isn't it? Or have I missed something?
My experience is that it is a loyalty test starting with ads every three or four minutes, then tapering off as the hours move forward. At some point the commercials dissipate until they are gone... and you are rewarded with no commercials. I hope that it is how it works for everyone.

They have to have the music. I think it has to do with copyright.

Think it must depend on where you are. I am not a subscriber and only got 3 or 4 ads in the whole thing.. sorry for you though as it is annoying
