Me and my wife were returning to CdO that time to attend her uncle’s burial in Balingasag the following day. If I knew then that the Princess of Earth had a scheduled voyage to CdO, we would’ve went with her but ended getting tickets for the Doña Rita, Sr. instead. Although we had the only owner’s suite accommodation located at the port side near the bow and below the bridge, the rough seas we encountered after passing Siquijor, made my wife lose her sleep and gave her a relative bad experience while traveling with a smaller vessel like the Doña Rita. Unlike her, that experience didn’t bothered me at all since I’ve encountered much larger swells in 1992 onboard the Filipina Princess when her skipper decided to meet a typhoon head-on as we passed Cavite headed for Cebu. Unlike the Princess of the Stars, the Filipina Princess was designed to take the rougher waters of Western Japan when she serviced Maizuru to Otaru in Japan. She battled the typhoon’s swells for three hours. Me and my family were inside the Filipina Princess’ tourist accommodation. We didn’t saw the horizon through the windows. Only massive waves hitting the ship. And every time waves hit her hull, it felt like tons of huge logs banging. No one took their lunch when the vessel’s crew announced it. Despite all that, we surely overcame that horrible experience unscathed.
