My friend panic placed a ladder when a turret targeted them and it blocked the turret shots, so ladders are handy to invest into. Idk how precise it is, but I'd assume it's not too crazy hard. It was standing up in front of the turret fully extended (so not lying on the floor)

I think it's just tricky sometimes especially when you have a lot of viewers and some of them might not be consistent viewers or some are even newer. Because most streamers have different styles of playing, I know plenty who want reasonable amounts of help but not aggressive backseating. I also know some who want all the help they can get. But a lot of John's long time viewers know he prefers to figure things out for himself even if that means fucking up or throwing the game for God knows how long. I'm sure some of the back and forth snark is said with love but sometimes I'm sure he gets sick of the hundreds of comments directing him on how to play.
It’s called backseat gaming for a reason, even if it’s not done out of malice it can be very annoying having hundreds of people telling you how to play a game based on how THEY would play it. I’ve seen tons of streamers get even more confused because chat can’t stop bossing them around and I’m sure constantly hearing that you’re playing “wrong”(which, in a game like this, is literally impossible) is discouraging and just plain irritating. John has been making this kind of banter for years, it’s never fully serious
