The bedding is looking great and breaking down well. Lots of healthy fat worms and another mating pair spotted. Today's feeding consisted of broccoli stems, watermelon, banana peels, pulp from the juicer, and grape stems. I added fresh newspaper bedding and put pulverized azomite powder and ground eggshells for grit for the red wigglers. Finally I placed a burlap covering on to the top of the worm bin. It will be neat to see how the worms break it down over the next few weeks.

Thank you for the birthday comment. Enjoy the rest of your evening. 🪱
You’re welcome AJ. Mine is in another week. I remembered yours was earlier than mine in December.
Good job 👏 😊❤
Thank you Juani.
Good morning Rick, from Windermere Florida zone 9b 🇺🇸
Looks good in the bin🪱👌🪱
❤Peggy❤
Thanks Peggy the worms are having a great time eating up the bedding and food scraps
I love how dark & rich the castings in here look!! Soooo many isopods in there helping out!! I agree paper is natural😂I have some burlap sacks I brought back from cranberry picking and I've been trying to decide which bin to put them in!! This was just the motivation I needed to make a decision!! Excellent video Rick!!🪱🪱🪱
Sounds good Patrick. I’ve been wanted to add some burlap for a while now. Luckily I came across some from work. Natural bedding does produce some great looking castings. 😁🪱
Yes love the leaf bedding bin. i remembered to save some this year. Maybe I can get my casting to look that good.
@@PlantObsessed definitely the leaves making the castings very dark and rich. Thanks Ann! You have great looking castings. 😁🪱💩
Oooh, worms love burlap! Sometimes the little wisps get hung up in it, so I found it's a good idea to always keep the bubble wrap on top to keep it moist.
~ Sandra
Thanks for the tip Sandra. It will be neat to see how the worms interact with the burlap.
I am just warning you, the worms will definitely get into that burlap, when you go to feed and "fluff" that bin again have a empty bin or something else close by to place the burlap in, or just fold it over one side to the other. I covered a few of my bins with burlap a few years ago, the worms loved it, a single layer of burlap lasted around 3 to 4 months.
Worms and castings are looking great Rick, Stay Well!!!!
I just started making sure I have my mortar tray that I use for harvesting with me the last few check ins. Yeah I was just happy to throw it in so there wasn’t any structure when I put it in the bin. Thanks for the time frame Brian. This natural bedding bin has been doing a great job making vermicompost. 😁🪱
Wish I still had my worms but going to Moms every summer doesn't work well with that. At least I get to visit with yours each week.
Thanks Jack! Hopefully your raised beds are loaded with worms. 😁🪱
Your bedding is looking very rich and moist from my perspective. Incredible amount of worms that are clustered. I thought you gave to big of a feeding but I don't know what you know, as I don't even have a bin.
@@AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu thanks! I am very pleased with how the bedding is looking and this was a pretty large feeding. It does have a variety of faster and slower foods. I try to watch and not over feed. If the worms are eating everything I will give more, and if they slow down I will also back off on how much food scraps I give.
