Great to see you back! I'm a bit surprised you've gone with such a dark hat in the AZ sun. Most Tilleys I see are a light beige colour... is your preferred style not available in a lighter shade?
Hi Mark. I actually have the light colored one for sure. This hat doubles as a birding hat and my theory is that birds are not as alerted to the darker color. Not quite Phinney camo though LOL. Love my Tilley hat. Just like yours except lighter color. Perfect in the sun and heat. Good for other times. Ultra comfortable. Provides protection from the sun really well.

Don, I have a Tilley hat just like your old one. I’ve used it a ton for golfing but since moving off grid have been trying to “save” it by using another hat. I have destroyed that hat and was considering biting the bullet and switching to my nicer Tilley. After seeing your video you have convinced me to use it. They are great hats. Hope all is well and look forward to your upcoming videos.
Mine has ben left out in a snowbank for months, rained on, run over on a muddy track, snagged on tree limbs and played with by toddlers and dogs. it's still intact and in good health. I think Tilly believes in their product so much that they will gladly repair or replace your hat for free.

Hi Don, it was great to bump into you in Green Valley last month over a beer. As we sat talking I kept thinking that we had met before, but could not make the mental connection. Finally - after an extended conversation about birding - you mentioned being a TH-camr, and it dawned on me that I had seen one of your videos about birding and herping with one of your friends. Anyway… your tip about checking Montosa Canyon for my target birds Five-striped Sparrow and Varied Bunting payed off. I found the canyon and the spot late that afternoon with no luck - it was just too late. I returned early the following morning and dang if I didn’t see and photograph both of my targets! Thanks for the tip, and keep rocking that Tilley!

So delighted you persevered and went back to Montosa Canyon. Its definitely a great place. I think it must be one of the top places in the country to see Varied Bunting and definitely for Five-striped Sparrow! Way to go!
I know its been a few days, but im glad to see you still out there. I might try those hats. I had skin cancer by my right temple and wear boonie style hats all the time, now. Thank you
@@affordabledesertliving3487 mine just recommended one with a brim that wraps all the way around and solid fabric, so no mesh to let the sunlight through like in straw hats, but I might make a call to be sure
I have had a Tilley for 12 years now but it has the narrow band. Like you, I have skin issues and would like at least a w inch brim. What model hat do you have?
