Lol, that was a lot of effort to go through when you already had a new shell ready to go, but especially the sanding. But it was definitely miles ahead of where it started.
For stickers and sticker residue, try barbecue lighter fluid. It's just deodorized mineral spirits, and removes stickers and their associated residue really well. It doesn't harm plastics like many solvents can (even isopropyl alcohol can damage some plastics). I keep some in a tupperware container so I can just drop shells into it to soak.
I have one thing that will help in the future and that is to use Dawn dish soap instead. It takes greasy, sticky things like stickers off much faster and works much better on residue of all kinds.
Real quick question. Would you happen to have that screen lens with the sticker on it laying around? If so would you be willing to send it to me if I pay? I like the look of the worn out sticker and I’m pretty sure I could remove the scratches and reuse the screen lens
think about either the kids lungs or the smokers lungs if this plastic looks like this and it wasn't direct contact of that blowing on it.. If this isn't an advertisement to not smoke, I don't know what is.
Hi Jake! Love the channel buddy! Quick Q, have you ever had a motherboard with yellowing stain from excessive cigarette smoke? Or have any clue how to clean it?
btw the glacier gba had a black power switch instead of a white one which was on it at the end of the video. not trying to be a nerd emoji, just an observation!
When buying a set of aftermarket buttons, the color of the power switch always matches the buttons. For this reason I almost always reuse the original power switch, because it would also bother me. 😅
Before i write my angry 12yo-sounding observation, i got to say, you really tried and it was very entertaining, even if you didn't manage at the end. Now, let the nagging begin: So, after a month of trying you changed the shell, the buttons, the bumpers, the screen and the screen lens. You basically reshelled the motherboard.
It's not a complete restoration. If I was a judge in a contest amongst a few talented people, and they all had to bring back this Gameboy from a really rough state I would prohibited any use of new parts and if so used they would fail the competition. Adding one new small part you can look past it if it's nothing major like new screws or whatever, but replacing the shell and new buttons you defeated the purpose of this video. You couldn't of just went to a hobby shop and got some paint to coat it's original shell after all that?..
Next time carefully remove the original serial number. It was really painful to watch you sand over the original serial number and ruin the GBA by sanding down the textured feeling of the case. Something is original only once and it already looked way better then when first got it. Should have put everything back together and called it a day instead of using an aftermarket shell.
Wasn’t an aftermarket shell. Just a better original shell that I had lying around. If you care a lot about keeping everything all original, this might not be the channel for you
I thought the restoration of the original shell made for a unique color. The blue looks more glacier-esqe than the replacement but to each their own.
And when I say ‘glacier-esqe’ I don’t mean oem colors
Nothing like snorting a line of gba to keep the party going

Yeah hes an idiot didn't you see the end after he put the new shell on he just dragged the screen all over the wood table to scratch it up...
I appreciate the effort here dude. The milky shell was kind of funky though
The peroxide must be warmed, otherwise it won't be nearly as effective.
I never knew I needed all these sounds in my life, this is such a relaxing experience
The Odd Tinkering shout out made me very happy.
"#1 reason why you shouldnt smoke" you say as I blow dab smoke across all my electronics lol
Honestly, protecting my game consoles and pcs are probably my number one reason not to smoke

I've been repairing phones and whatnot (started with Gameboys) for the last 8 years and that GBA is almost worse than anything I've ever seen.
I’m still sad I couldn’t fully save it😔
Really liked this one. Great restoration video,
I really enjoyed making it! Probably gonna start doing a lot more of these
@@JakeSimmons The zoomed in shots and sounds of taking it apart are very satisfying, and the best part of restoration videos for me.

I just use what I have haha but I will keep that in mind
That shell was a goner, getting smoke stains out is almost impossible depending on how bad it is
didn't turn out bad tho
You should get some plastic razor blades, gets stickers off real quick. Worth the 16 minutes saved.
the amount of hair on that grandpa screw was hilarious
Grandpa screw😂
So many things during that housing restoration made me cringe. 💀
At least you tried.

Sorry :/

@@JakeSimmons Don’t be sorry, it was yours to do whatever you wanted with, and you tried your best to save it😃👍
hello where can you buy new shells for gba that are good the ones i have found on aliexpress feel really cheap
They are all pretty much gonna be the same. 95% come from the same factory in Shenzhen
eBay, Aliexpress, Wish. Don't pay more then 10 USD for a shell.
dude why is that squirt bottle of ipa so good sounding?
no new IPS screen?
I eventually used it in a modding stream
TheOddTinkering also uses heat, maybe that would've made a difference?
Funny joke with the plastic sanding but kids never ever do that. It is plastic shrapnel it would kill you.
your camera quality is proper, hey how can I fix my GBA SP it has an ON/OFF switch issue cz If i bypass the switch it turns ON.
Good luck! th-cam.com/users/shortsOQtFYk0sGiQ?feature=share
Excellent video
No custom paint job

I’m addicted to watching your videos!
That sniff tho.
An easy way to take stickers off is to use WD-40 or baby oil.
No Doc Duck in the wash tub…
😉

Yeah I get yellow stained motherboards all the time and there isn’t much you can do about it as far as I know :/
@@JakeSimmons Thanx for the reply!
The thumbnail and the gba made me get hurt inside

soap water and bleach for a week
Ship of Theseus kinda beat lol
this is awesome!

9:00 😂😂
Impressive!
That's not sand that's roach sh** !!!
At tgis point of restoration is easier to make a gameboy from scracth than repairing it LOL
I have an original Gameboy from the early 90’s that I need restored! How much would charge to do it?!?
I'd do it for free if you pay for the shipping back and forth. I'm in Europe.
Soak the gba shell in bleach gel, leave it for a couple hours. Don’t need any uv lighting or nothing. This method has worked wonders for me
Do a psp
Maybe in the future… those things are a pain
It looks so bad
