Here are the basic instructions for this blanket
    PART 1 - CAST ON
We the blanket with a cast on of 162 stitches using the long tail cast on
    PART 2 - SET UP
Work a set up row by purling all stitches
PART 3 - START WORKING THE RIPPLE STITCH
R1 (RS) : K2tog three times, ‘k1, yo’ six times, k2tog three times*, repeat from *to to the end
R2 (WS): knit all stitches including YOs
    R3 (RS): knit all stitches
    R4 (WS): purl all stitches
Repeat R1 to 4 until you reach your desired size and finish your yarn
    PART 4 - BIND OFF
Once you’ve reached your desired length, bind off on row 2 purlwise!
Your blanket is ready to wash and block, I put mine in warm water with laundry detergent, rinsed it and put it in the washing machine on the spin cycle. I find that helps and quickens the drying time. I laid it flat to dry.
    Happy knitting!

The pattern is called Old Shale, it comes from Shetland. The pattern represents waves and shells. Not to be confused with feather and fan which is different, albeit that's what many people call it ❤

I made this blanket as a shower gift and it is so beautiful, yet so very easy. Thank you for sharing this pattern. I also ordered the Drops Cotton Light yarn, and paid a bit extra to ship to the US, but it is a beautiful, sturdy cotton/polyester yarn for a baby. The drape and feel is like none I have found on the US. I have started ordering it for my baby items.

Lovely easy pattern. To make it a little easier I put stitch markers on every 18 stitches, so I kept checking row 1 that I had done the right amount of yarn overs, less headache than getting to end of the row 😂looks like a pretty, complicated
pattern but far from it 👍

I’m a fairly new knitter and was wondering why you worked some rows in the back loop and other rows in the front loop. Is that optional?
Thanks again for a beautiful pattern.

I have another question please. What type of material is best for a child's blanket. It makes a lot of sense how you explained you would not want it to pill up or release fuzz. What yarn material than should I look for?
I purchased Bernart baby blanket yarn 10% poly. Superbulky #6. I am disappointed tggat they call it baby blanket yarn because it absolutly pills and fuzzes. Scares me, since you mentioned that. I won't use this yarn now. This is my first grandbaby and I don't want to use a yarn that's dangerous.
Is it cotton that is ok? This particular blanket in this video is 50/50 cotton and poly. It should not shrink, correct? What about thed other baby blanket that you showed using a 100% cotton? Is that what you'd most want the natural fiber? Wool is kinda scary as many people are a allergic to wool, I am. So I would not think that would be good at all. I'm certain many people would disagree. However if they were a allergic to wool they would see why not to use it. It makes me itch something fierce. It causes my skin to become irriated and causes hives, coughing and sneezing so I would not use it.
Do you make it larger if you do a blanket or anything in100% cotton? How much will it shrink? Does that affect your pattern and final products. It certainly won't stay clean long with a baby and will need to be washed often. My kids things certaintly needed to be cleaned hot water!
How do I tell what's ok and w hat's not? Is it the finer? Or the way its spun? Can you try yo give me some guidelines for picking out yarn. I looked where you bought yarn, they have very nice yarn, good pricing it seems but didn't do the conversions to dollars because it would cost a fortune and take way too long to get here. Any information will be helpful so that I feel good about making a baby blanket. Fuzz could be detrimental for a baby lungs or stomach. So appreciative of this information. Can you advise me please so I can shop at other locations in the US please. Thank you very kindly. I'm a news subscriber. Trudy

Hi I noticed and you said you were continental knitter so you knit through the back loop. Cool! Why? I know if you do it on last stich of row it helps to not make a big loop. But I noticed you only knit through feedback loop on the knits in the first row. I'd have to look again if it was all the way across or not. I'm so curious. Doesn't that affect its strength? Plus if you do it on that row why not on subsequent rows? Thanks, your knitting is lovely.

Anna Saenz yeah, I guess you could add a border, however I haven’t tried it, I’m thinking maybe the scalloped edge wouldn’t be as obvious if you do, but you can try to knit a sample

Hi..your blanket looks so beautiful and the explanation is so simple. I tried a sample swatch of this, using 3 multiples of 18 stitches. Everything is okay from the row of purl stitches at the beginning and the first four rows. However by the end of the first row repeat my stitches have increased. I started again and same thing...5x.
Could I be there is a missing step or row you forgot in your video?
    Please come back and help!

Ok, I figured out the pattern works with 18 stitches, the pattern repeat is k 3 together, k1 yo 6 times, k 3 together, when you k 3 together you decrease 3 stitches, then yo 6 times you increase 6 but 3 are replacing the 3nfrom the k 3 together, and then you do again k 3 together with decreases the other 3 from the you, and you r back to 18 stitches, the easiest way put a marker every 18 stitches and you'll see, and sorry this is so long, so when you finish k 3 together, yo 6 times k 3 together that isbthe end of the repeat, then you start again with k 3 together, I hope this explains it

    • @TeoMakes
      @TeoMakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

no, absolutely not, if you are an English or continental knitter, just knit and purl the way you usually do, I knit combination, hence the "knit through the back loop" situation ;)

Hello, yes it's works, I had the same problem, and increase in my stitches until I figured out, hope you understand me, ok the pattern repeat is very 18 stitches, you start by k 2 together 3 times then k 1 yo 6 times then k 2 together 3 times, that is the end of your repeat, next you start again k 2 together 3 times k 1 yo 6 times and k 2 together 3 times when you k 3 together you decrease 3 stitches, then k 1 yo 6 times increases 6 stitches but you already decrease 3 at the beginning then you k 3 together again and that deceases the other 3 so you'll always have 18, you can make a swatch of 36 sts and you'll see, k 2 together 3 times k 1 yo 6 times k 2 together 3, then start again, k 2 together 3 times, k 1 yo 6 times k 2 together 3 times, hope I was of help
