  • I found a way to do super clean 6in hole for my Cornhole boards. Using my Bosch router with the plunge base, nail, hammer, tape measure, pencil, drill and small drum sander.

put backer board underneath.drive nail down into backer board,it will keep circle cutout from moving around at the end of the cut.

If you do a lot of these it’s faster and safer to just make a jig. This works though

I do dhe same. But at the end i left about 1mm of material, turn plate around and make final cut with router with ball bering at the end.

This is was extremely helpful. I'm glad i clicked on your video. this saved me from buying a $40 hole saw. Luckily we have the same router kit from Bosch.

Super happy that you found this! It will make these easier, less stress on your shoulders and a very clean hole. Make sure to do a practice cut. Also if you could share a link to this on your social media and follow me @bourbon_woodworking on Instagram I’ll have more tips

What model router and bit are you using?

    • @HatManSanders

This router is the 1617EVSPK and the bit is a 2 flute, 1/2” Diablo Model #DR12128

Great tip thanks! I’m new to woodworking and not very skilled with the router. My question is when you make the final cut and the circle is dangling by the nail how do you keep it from effecting your cut? Do you unplunge immediately

I slow down a lot for the last inch and as soon as it’s complete I fully plung

screw a sacrificial board to the underside.. Then put the pivot nail into both the center of the circle and the sacrificial board. should keep the inner circle in place after fully cut.

Hi, I came across your video and decided to give it a try since I have the same router model. I used a Freud 1/4" D x 1/4" SH but the hole came short of 6" and as the matter of fact it measured at 5 7/8". Any info why it did not give me the 6" hole?
edit: on 2nd test run I etched the test board with the Freud bit, I used a 1/2" normal drill bit to drill through the board where I put the mark, then I took a Whiteside 1/2" flush-trim bit with the barrel at the top (I do not have the flush-trim w/o the barrel) and put it through the drilled hole. From there I slowly ran it and got the 6" circular hole :). So my conclusion is the thickness of the bit matters :)

Might have used the wrong hole in the base plate

@@HatManSanders actually, the problem was the size of the Freud bit. You used a 2" and if I'm not mistaken you did mention the hole came out 6 & 16". I used the Whiteside 1/2" D and it gave me an exact 6". I guess I will go buy another Whiteside 1/2" flush trim bit w/o the barrel at the end so I can skip drilling a hole lol. Thanks for the tip :)

Make a video of the round-over smooth out after making your hole.
