    Just want to say, after so many years, your tutorials are still the most cohesive for beginners and easiest to find. Go has far fewer resources than Chess.

      +2 I just started trying to learn yesterday and this series really really helped me with it

      I am coming from chess, and it’s hard to find video resources, only books, which is simply a slower prcess for me, especially when I want to learn in 30 minute lessons at once

    Having watched just up to here has given me the orientation I needed, not merely to rise a few low-DDK levels on OGS (starting from about 17k), but to play in a way that I could *learn* from what I was seeing, instead of being in constant hopeless fights with everything seeming like chaos. This is great, you are great, thanks!

      this is the key for me as well--now that i can kind of see the shapes i can actually understand why my moves are good or bad

  • @Ryvaldus
    @Ryvaldus 7 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    I stumbled upon OGS before finding your channel. I'd just like to thank you, as the quality of my horrendous play improved exponentially after watching just the first three videos in this series. My shapes were much better and I could actually wince after a bad move was made rather than when my opponent inevitably exploited it. 10 losses down, 90 to go . . .

    I was losing 100% consistently to the easiest bot on OGS. I watched *half* of this video and started to win once in a while against that bot and am about 50-50 with human opponents who are novices. You get SO MUCH out of learning the very basic shapes.

    Yesterday I finally won my first game because I managed to recognise the pattern of the first move shape you show here. Thanks! One thing confuses me, though. At 16:37 black is disconnected, true. Still, white is also disconnected, isn't she? So, what's the point in white attempt to disconnect black, if white ends up being disconnected herself?

    I don’t understand the concept of giving up. Can you please explain this? Why? Why would you just give the gane away if you’re in a visibly bad position, but perhaps you can turn it around by capturing? In your examples I often see ataris that aren’t used. Why? I’m new at this and just wondering. Thank you for your help.
