if this is a genuine question, my best idea would be to tell them what they should and shouldn't do around your dog, and if they don't follow those instructions then let them know you're limiting how much time they get to spend with your dog (sadly only works if you live away from family)
It's been three years and my parents can't resist encouraging the jumping behaviour ("shes so cute" they say, "Why are we ignoring her best efforts to say hi"😓).. 😂... but most people who visit are able to follow, and thankfully that's been helping. Persistence helps a lot, some dogs may be more stubborn than others! 😅
I’m almost there! Day 1 and he’s thinking about it lol. He backs up while I’m training but has a lapse in judgement when I walk in the door. After a minute he remembers. Hopefully he remembers on day 2 a bit faster.
Would have been nice to see the dog not jump on someone other than the person training him. Dogs react differently when it’s not the person enforcing the rules.
This looks kind and successful but it never pays off. The dog will not do this with a regular person. Let's see this with a regular visitor. It never works😊
What I do with my dog to avoid him jumping up, since I can't completely train him not to jump up on people since the rest of my family love the hugs he gives so.... what I do I only pet him with all 4 paws on the floor when I get home and before I do anything else, I give him enough attention for him to be satisfied And I haven't been jumped on for over 6 months now
For a situation like this it may be a good idea to teach him to jump up on command. It'll only work if you can get the people who want his hugs on board, but it's worth considering.
@kohlraedirectioner yeah He mainly jumps up on people for attention My mom doesn't pet the dogs every second of every day And the dog learned, "If I jump up on you, you will pet me!" So... that can be difficult I tell her to pet him with all 4 paws on the floor, but honestly, she only pets him when he jumps up or randomly throughout the day She's a germaphobe. She washes her hands after touching anything, and knowing how dirty dogs get...yeah, she doesn't pet them often
I need a trainer to train this out of my dogs.. they very rarely jump up at me, but ALWAYS jump up at strangers. I also need to somehow get them to stop running up to other dogs.. a vibrating e-collar might do the trick.
That's usually cause they let or encourage your dog to jump. You've gotta ignore the person and teach your dog what YOU expect from him Running up to other dogs is a difficult 1 but treats and keeping focus on you while passing dogs is the trick
Actually....my dogs only jump at me....they don't jump at grandma 😂 we never trained them they just know not to mess with Grandma. Pitbulls are so smart 🥰
I'm going to try this. But our dog gets way too excited and doesn't listen to anything and jumps out of pure enjoyment. Wouldn't mind it if she wasn't bigger than my neice.
My dogs have never jumped on people for some reason, and they’re very gentle with my 92 year old great grandmother. I used this method on my friends dogs though because im over there alot and it works great😂
Jumping is a learned behavior. Exited pups will naturally jump around when exited but owners that encourage the behavior or even join in with play are reinforcing that behavior until the dog gets big and it isn't so cute anymore. That is why you have to teach them that Jumping is not ok from the time they are puppies. By the time they are an adult Jumping is the farthest thing from their mind.
It brings tears to my eyes to see responsible owners who give clear directions to their dogs instead of blindly punishing them for not reading their mind
My dog is eight years old, and we have tried everything, but for some reason, this... this worked. She learned it in 15 minutes. THANK YOU SO MUCH!❤ Now we can come home with ease and without worry that she'll rup our clothes and we won't have claw marks everywhere😂
My brother’s tiny dogs would jump to human eye level for attention. I told them if the dog is jumping, then there is no dog in the room. My sister in law was dense and told the dogs I was saying mean things as they jumped, but even she eventually got the point. If the dog is jumping, you behave like it literally does not exist. No eye contact, no talking to it, no praise, no correction, no pats, no gestures, no change in tone of voice or mannerisms, just turn body a quarter turn away and ignore. Eyes at eye level. When dog puts all fours on the ground then you greet it. If it jumps up again, ignore again. Works for me every time. Trained my brother’s dogs in two minutes.
Thank you for making this. I am going to have my older girl do this today. She is very smart. And she'll pick us up fast. I will, by the way, I'm the Grandma that she might knock over. So thanks again❤😊
Don't train your dogs with treats, train them with discipline. You want them to respect you and your rules, not see you as a vending machine. It's no different than children. If you let your children treat you like a vending machine, you're only teaching them to be selfish. "But it works, cause now he does what I wanted him to do." Yeah, but it doesn't work correctly, because you didn't want to do the hard part. So you don't actually have a trained dog, you have a conditioned dog. The difference is that conditions are circumstantial, while training is permanent.
Nice. Wash his eye boogers, he's too beautiful to have eye boogers 😂😂😂 #I'm obsessed with washing my dogs eye boogers😂😂🎉🎉 no but forreal , I needed this video so bad, I know what to do now
Ignoring your dog is not recommended for dogs that don't jump. I call my dog to me when I come home, (but she usually is coming to greet me), and she never jumps, but let's me know she is SO happy we are reunited. She knows I put down my stuff and then she gets big love. Please don't feel like you need to ignore your dog every time you come in the house. They need to know you are thier best friend and being back together is AWESOME!
"youre gonna wish you spent 60 seconds to watch this video" Little psychology fact, people don't like being told what to do! I'm still going to watch it, but the moment you said this i felt an overwhelming urge to just scroll and not watch the video. Many people would just scroll, when they would've happily stayed if you hadn't said that.
My family puppy -(maletse-shitsu), about 1 year old and un-neutered (not my choice) always jumps on our legs and I have tried the ignoring him, the ignoring and turning my back to him but the issue is he just doesn't stop and sometimes he starts humping. How can I get him to figure out he needs to chill out or back up when I approach because he just jumps more if I step into him like you did.
Why do you need the dog to back up? Isn't it enough that he's not jumping on whomever (which is literally the premise you're working from at the start).
I'm dog sitting for my son next week. She is a jumper; I am going to try to get her to stop the jumping; so there will be HUGE surprise when they get home; Hoping !!!
What to do if its someone else's dog and it jumps mostly at me, even when I'm at their home for few hours already? 😅 She started jumping on my back and while I'm holding hot tea, so it became dangerous. I always ignored her while she was jumping at me, yet she never stopped and it became even more intense. Few months ago she didn't jump at people holding mugs, ever, now she started but only when I am holding it!
I am allergic to dogs. I hate that most people don’t train their dogs not to jump on people when they enter the home. I have literally slapped dogs in the face when they jumped on me. I take my allergy meds and I’m okay for a few hours but I don’t want pet hair/dander all over me the second I walk in. If your dogs jumps, hold them by the leash or correct them seriously. I had toddlers at one point and they weren’t allowed to jump on guests in the home. If a kid does it it’s rude but People with pets think it’s cute or moldy annoying. NO it’s still rude. Dogs aren’t stupid they’re just not trained.
My dog somehow can learn tricks and other stuff pretty easily and fast so somehow I have taugh him to jump like that when asked to by tapping on my chest (when he is excited and kind of asking if he can do it) if I do not give permission, he will not do it. Instead of jumping, he just asks me to scratch his butt by leaning his butt on my legs and stare at me :')
When I was a teen our black lab (first dog) jumped on people. We never managed to stop the jumping up part but she stopped jumping ON the people. Instead she’d run full speed to them and last second just jump up and down in front of them. Scared the wits out of people lol.
God i wish my family would just listen to proper dog trainers. They have 2 dogs that have behaviours like this. One jumps and wants to hold your hand with her mouth, which that isnt the problem shes very gentle when she holds your hand, its the jumping up on people thats not good. The other dog they have is way too protective over “his” room.
Interesting technique. I simply taught mine to sit instead of jump. It's easier that way and he always sits politely while waiting for the person to engage.
Like most people- my dogs only learn to not jump on ME. Other people allow it even tho I am telling her no and telling them not to allow it they encourage it to her face in front of me against my directions and completely ruin her training. So again all my dogs only ever learn to not jump on me. So fuck your 60 second video that doesnt help anyone but people that live and die alone.
lmao not someone I know who doesn't give a sh** when her over hyped dog exaggerately jumps at people even when some people gets uncomfortable and scared.. she would just laugh at her dog's behaviour and on how uncomfortable or stressed it makes other people.. (sometimes, she doesn't even try to stop her dog from doing that) she's also the type of owner to think that when her dog sits still and behaved in one corner, her dog is bored and sad so she would rile her dog up starting to make her dog hyper again which btw is not trained and she can't control properly. Worse is that she doesn't listen when told she should train her dog as she believes her dog is perfect, does nothing wrong and is just a baby that's why it's acting badly - so instead of being a responsible dog owner, she would expect everyone around her dog to adapt to any bad behaviour her dog makes even in other people's home.
bro my dog is the same size with incredible strength and he doesn’t do this he full speed and force jumps on people and keeps jumping up and down uncontrollably (existed not angry and aggressive he likes attention) bit not on me tho? so idk what to do now when my mum is laying on a couch he sprints full speed and jumps onto her ofter hurting her but he doesn’t do that to me???
Treats are so wrong. A dog has to be free and a family member. Only get a dog if you have a crazy amount of free time. They want to be with you constantly. That's the deal we made with them thousands of years ago.
Do you have tips on how to do this for someone else’s dog do it won’t jump on them? My grandma has a huge Great Pyrenees that always jumps on her, she’s got scratches all over from her, I’ve tried working with her and she doesn’t ever jump on me but she won’t stop jumping on her. We are all terrified that the dog is going to shove her down the porch steps one of these days and I don’t know how to get the dog to not jump on everyone else not just me.
Also they learn that that's how to greet other dogs too, people often confuse an excited dog for a happy dog. You want your dog to be calm and happy not excited and frantic.
What abt if my dog doesn't do that for greeting but more like if you excite her or act crazy she jumps on you and like pushes all her weight on you lol
I have a shepherd. Just wait a few months if you can to get her or him to calm down out of puppy stage then you can work on fixing the bugs. Of course if it’s a huge problem like she or he knocks people over or hurts people then try your best to do it now. Repetition is the answer
Instead of doing this we taught my dog when it is ok to jump (when he’s invited) he doesn’t jump up now unless we pat our shoulders or our laps when we sit down.

I just tried this on my 1yr dog and I am not exaggerating he literally stopped jumping within like 5 minutes. Thank you 😊
Hell yea!!
That’s it I’m trying this right now
Edit: oh my god. Progress! I’m doing this every day form now on
Yeah if you teach your dog things, they'll learn...
This same process can be extrapolated tonother things! You can learn to talk to your dog!

I literally laughed out loud when I saw him do that polishing the floor with his little butt 😅

ohhhh come back and tell us.
"One day he is gonna knock over grandma" had me rolling on the floor 🤣
Me too! Cool sense of humor! 😂😂
Very similar training is perfect for teaching "back up!" As well, which is super useful, especially around unfamiliar dogs or people.
Nice, gonna show this to my mom, she has a puppy that is getting this bad habit.
Edit: changed had to has
Would have been nice to see the dog not jump on someone other than the person training him. Dogs react differently when it’s not the person enforcing the rules.

I taught my dog to jump so I could give her treats because I can’t bend over it comes in handy

Wow. I need this for my dads dog. He doesn't like to go on walks and he jumps on us everytime we go outside.
Luckily I didn't need to train my dog not to jump at door to greet me. She just stares at me for leaving her inside
Omggg it is so embarrassing when my dog is jumping cuz he’s strong thx :)
my puppy doesn't go back, he goes to the side and starts biting my legs. what else can I do?
My 6 month old puppy, this worked on training her at home but soon as we're outside at the park or someone else's house she jumps and ignores treats
