I was thinking about you throw out bearing with the key. You drill a clearance hole in the key then place the key where it goes on the rotating shaft drill tap size hole in the shaft through the hole in the key you already drilled for alignment then assemble it with a drop of lock tight on the thread
Went to the Seattle Boat Show a few years ago and went through a number of "old, classic, wooden yachts" and thought one of them would be great to restore and live on. Will probably never do it, but think about it quite often. My question to you is what is the best web-site/magazine to look at for yachts like yours to restore and live on. Thanks for your response. Keep the videos coming. Happy, safe yachting. 👍🙂
I’m not sure there’s a specific website for boats that need restoration - I purchased Argonaut after craigslist and often look at craigslist or yacht world at boats. If you’re serious about it, I am pretty familiar with the boats around Seattle that are for sale and could use some help.
Yes, that and the shaft it is mounted on is a bit short and only about 1/3 of the bearing is on the shaft when it is disengaged (maybe 2/3 when engaged), which is what led to the problem in the first place. Since this video, I had some friends help me make some adjustments to the assembly and it’s working much smoother now, so I am less concerned.
Love seeing all the details of the mechanicals on that boat.
It’s so fun
Loving your videos so I am subscribed. Love the length, content and the music.
Welcome aboard!
Nice fix. Coming from an old manual machinist myself. 👍
Thanks 👍!
What a beautiful old gal. Great channel 👍
Thank you!

@@MV_Argonaut Thanks. 👍
So I guess you need to engage, push together, before rotating?
You said you hope this repair lasts through the summer, but that seems like a sturdy repair. Is the concern the brazing will wear out?

That’s not the only thing you’re gonna need to bore out to accommodate your shaft
neat!
Thanks!
