I read an interpretation of this song that makes so much sense. It's about war, specifically a young man's experience with it. The beginning has these beautiful piano scales and stuff, which shows how war and the army were glorified when he was a kid. Then the song gets all gritty and dark, which is him actually getting drafted and all and realizing the horror of the war. Then the vocals kick in, and it's basically the officials feeding propaganda to the public about war. They claim that by joining the war effort you'll be "spitting out the demons" (the enemies, whom are being demonized and not portrayed as real people) and such. They even say "Come on, it won't hurt you" and "Coming in the good times", which enforces the notion that war isn't all that bad, and you'll definitely survive, right? Right? War isn't all that it's cracked up to be.
I like how they make the music so everyone has an interpertaion of what it means. Its a genere of which I enjoy becuase my interpretation is diffrent then Xiao's.

Exactly. I've always been one of the "I'll listen to anything if the quality is good" people, and Gorrilaz gives me just that. Quality music that varies in genre.
I absolutely love music that either tells a story through the lyrics,or seems to have an aura around it,wether that aura is sadness, but also happiness as felt in On Melancholy Hill.Or excitement mixed with peppiness,as in Rock the House. And Gorillaz can do both, with the lyrics telling somewhat of a story and the visuals being enough to give off the feelings it tries to convey. And I just love that!

Love this so fucking much!
Also, I love when the bass comes in, but i'm disappointed to see that no-one's talking about the guitar riff that comes in at 0:46
It basically completes the bass!
0:24 Murdoc has evolved to pickle man
If Gorillaz ever had a video game, this sounds like this could be the pause/main menu theme.
Exactly. I've always been one of the "I'll listen to anything if the quality is good" people, and Gorrilaz gives me just that. Quality music that varies in genre.
9 years later and this still goes hard ඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞ
I've been watching this windmill spin since high school, glad to see it's still chuggin' along.
come on, im a huge fan of gorillaz for 7 years but i never listened this song (and "people" ) this song is amazing
YES! When the BASS guitar starts/synthesized, music gets better. Simple but good...,and then the rest. I like it, good healthy beat to it, THANKS!

Good times
I could care less that the intro is more than half of the song ITS A GOOD INSTRUMENTAL
I remember being the oddball of highschool, being a Gorillaz super fan since '06
This song was everything, and scarcely known then
Heart warming to see how it has over 8 million views now
