Absolutely amazing as a ancient modeler I have spent many hours correcting and fixing problems with ye old resin. This is a master craftsmanship piece. The engineering and the execution of each part is exquisite! The carefully crafted gear teeth gave away the pose-ability. This needs it's own series for the build but first I want to see Norm's reaction to seeing it. To the makers of this fine piece I would I would like to remind you of these word from the infamous Yogurt: "Look what fine Murch-un-dice and may the Schwartz be with you"
"I'm annoyed by how perfect this part is" has to be the absolute greatest compliment I've ever heard, especially coming from a man who's worked film models and sculpture before, this being a fan project and NOT for screen use is an incredible example of passion project to it's greatest extent
The shear joy you display while looking over this kit got me smiling from ear-to-ear! Thanks for helping lift my spirits. I can't wait to see this thing assembled!
One of my bucket list projects is a large scale AT-AT like that one. At one time, Dragon showed the box art for a 1/35 scale version, but it never became a real product. I sure hope Adam ends up building this puppy; it would make an awesome one day build.
Watching Adam geek out over the quality and beauty of the sculpt and moldings is so wholesome. Love it when grown adults are still able to have their 'kid in the candy store' moments.
Holy smokes- that is an impressive kit. I build a LOT of Warhammer models I can tell you that stuff on this scale- in resin, nonetheless, is extraordinarily picky to work with and the fact that the casts are so clean ... just wow. I am sure that they cleaned up the gates and mold lines before sending it to you but still.... That is a true labor of love. Very impressive.
I don't do any casting myself. But as an avid collector and painter of Dungeons and Dragons miniatures, I've come to really appreciate well cast models. This is so beautiful, and of such an incredible high quality. I'm well and truly blown away.
I have to say this, i have been model building, figure painting, scenery creating for over 35 yrs since i was a teen, these days most of my hobby time is spent on the craft, i also make latex moulds of some scenery items to save on costs, anyway, to get to the point, your excitement and pure enthusiasm " i want to leave eveything else and start building now " lol, is so familiar to me that i could physically feel what you were feeling, even after all these years i still feel like a 12 year old at christmas when i start a new project and unbox for the first time.
The attention to detail and quality of the engineering and parts completely reminded me of Gunpla. I would LOVE to have the opportunity to get one of these.
As any gunpla builder would say RAGE ON , looking at the clean lines and expertly crafted parts and attention to detail is truly Bandai level and a true testament of the creators of the kit love of the subject , I'll look forward to the build videos
You can’t just post this video without a build, I didn’t know I needed this in my life but I do given I can’t buy this and I need to see it built. You’re the only one who can satiate my thirst.
The fact that he knows what each piece is and where it’s going tells you Mr Savage knows this AT-AT probably as well as the original creators. The fact that he’s impressed with the details and quality of this “ Model” kept me watching the entire video. Congratulations to the creators!! My only complaint is we didn’t get to see the model put together.
He honestly probably does. He worked on the clone wars models so very likely studied the at-at very closely to help with their work on the “predecessor” the at-te
I love when Adam gets into resin casting! I'm in the ball joint doll hobby where counterfeits are a huge problem with recaster buying up dolls then making casts from the copy as it were. I love that Adam gets resin casting and how no matter how you delude yourself if you're buying a recast your buying a lower quality product because molds break down over time and you can bet a counterfeit producers isn't retiring their molds after they show the first sign of wear.
This looks like its higher quality and more professionally made than obscenely expensive resin kits from big-name companies that I've seen other people build on TH-cam. *cough*ForgeWorld*cough* Kudos to the makers, whoever they may be.
I mean to be fair they did send this to someone they’d know would probably make a video on it. Plus it’s probably real early in the casting run. Just put it into perspective if you go out and buy one
@@ButterfatFarms Very true I hadn’t actually gotten to the 12 times part yet. Hope they can maintain the quality but regardless it’ll probably cost an arm and a leg
Beautiful sculpt and beautiful cast! I cannot fathom the amount of time and effort that went into acquiring the skills to execute a project like this so flawlessly
This is craftsmanship. I'm not even a huge starwars fan and I want this. This was made by people that love and take pride in what they do. That can ALWAYS be appreciated.
I doubt you know how to make castings like that if you aren't already (or previously were) 'in the industry'. That isn't some kickstarter team 'figuring it out' type product, it is obviously a team that has done it a lot already.
As someone who enjoys building models of the Warhammer and forge world with some 3rd party stuff, this looks amazing. It also makes me super jealous of the quality of the kit. It has no warping, miscasts, or cracks. I wish my Imperial Navy Thunderbolt was of this quality. It had its issues, but I managed to correct those with some heat and green stuff. My model now sits proudly with a lovely coat of paint based of the Mordian Iron Guard of Warhammer 40k.
With the resources GW has... forge world models could be so much better... but they aren't. I had a dream of wanting to do a dozen Thunderbolts along with some Lightnings and a Marauder to represent the various units from the novel Double Eagle, but aside from the insane cost for that along with the very limited usability (Apocalypse only) what really killed it was just not wanting to deal with the hassle of that many forge world kits.
Leaving Adam almost speechless is the ultimate compliment. And yeah, if you are a person who needs one of there bad enough you already know where to get one.
That was a very impressive display! WOW! As a semi-professional, part time mold maker (I'm a cast member of Guild Garage on Discover Velocity) I am totally blown away by the accuracy and detail in all those components! I have a tough enough time fabricating obscure lenses like on the 1940 Indian Chief we're restoring, or the 1950 Panhard bread delivery truck! THANKS for sharing this awesome video!
Adam's excitement is infectious. What is really exciting to look foreword to, will be Adam's approach to weathering and detailing. I'm betting he will be "walked" back to his time building scale models for Star Wars during the 1990s. This kit will be a canvas, hopefully that all of us will be able to see what it really takes to make a model worthy of being put in front of a $100,000 camera and special effects crew, for a shot that may be only 90 to 180 seconds long. Doubling down, I bet there are some stories he can tell us during the build that will hark back in time to a galaxy far far away... No pressure Adam 🙂
I’ve only recently started watching your videos. I’ve known about you for a long time just never watched. Your enthusiasm in this video alone got you a sub. Its an almost childlike enthusiasm for this kit., reminds me the first time I got the enterprise 3 piece set back in the 90’s. God I want to get back into building model kits because of this.
Quality is defintiely amazing! I ended up just finishing a 1:34, 3D printed model of an AT-AT, and while defintley not as clean looking at this model, for $50 in filament it looks damn good, I would say 80% as good as this.
It must be quite gratifying for the creators, that Adam understands and appreciates the design decisions that were made, and can convey that to his audience. I would appreciate the detail of it, but the intricacies of the process would be lost on me
When the man who was part of the Model Department that was responsible for this kinds of thing back when Star Wars was being filmed, is amazed with your work, that's something.
I've purchased resin kits from not so nice people (cough-cough), as well as kits from Sheldon's BBT (cough-cough) and they produce junk, pulling garbage parts out of RTV molds that were worn and useless. What we have here with the ATAT is a producer who cares about quality and willing to go the extra mile to make a quality kit. These magicians deserve the respect Adam is giving them. As we sit around the Round Table, we give the maker of this kit our admiration, love and respect for a job well done!
I so much respect the way you have presented this by keeping your word and not mentioning the manufacture what a wonderful piece and you’re a wonderful man for sharing it with us thank you
When a pro loses their shit opening something and then after having time to digest and revaluat, and is STILL blown away, yeah that's some impressive work. Once this label drops, I'm sure this video and those to follow will blow up their business on a whole new level. They 100% were right to do this, you can't buy marketing this good.
This is beyond stunning. Lucasfilm and Disney would be insane not to give these fine people their seal of approval - it would take ages to get one, however, given the mold turn-over. If Adam is over the moon about what you've done, you know you've succeeded in your goal. The joy in this unboxing is a true panacea.
A model that large, with that level of detail, even with an experienced modeler, takes way more than a day. The fact that it is fully poseable means that the base below the model has to be considered before the legs are solidly glued. This goes beyond modeling like how most people understand it. This transcends modeling as a hobby and reaches into a fully artistic exercise, and those take days.
@@cracklingvoice I know it's not a "one day" build, I love watching Adam build stuff because he shows all these great techniques and really shows his passion for this kind of stuff.
The saddest part about this is that George Lucas would have been flattered and excited at these people, or this person, recreating such a great product of his work and all Disney will do is try and sue the creator of this into oblivion. Disney would never create such a great product either, and if they somehow did, it would cost three time what this product costs. I really wish Lucas would not have sold out to Disney.
It's true; fan made stuff is LEAGUES ahead of official merchandise, and made with actual love with the intention to please and amaze, and not just make a quick buck. All kinds of companies get pissy about this because they believe they should be the only true source of the best items, when neither of those things are true.
What an absolutely amazing kit and would be soo happy to spend the money on buying this if it ever comes to market! Also, did I see it right in that the clapper board doesn't have the tape removed of any of the clips shot with it? That looked like a fair old chunk of tape layers :)

I'm very interested in their other works, I hope you're able to showcase another of their products before to long. 'I'm annoyed at how perfect this part is' is a perfect Adam Savage quote. Enjoy your build :)
Adams joy should be bottled and sold, the joy of unboxing something that combines your favourite childhood movie and your passion is something we all get
That's incredible, and I bet the creators are over the moon with your praise for it! I've only built two garage kits; Jaina Solo and Tifa Lockhart, both from the same yellow box kit company, and both fantastic quality going together with very little alteration. Taught me a lot about getting skin tones correct and I'm very happy with how they came out.
I’ve been looking for a stuff like this too. There was a few forums were people were selling moulds, or kits from the original moulds. But I’ve been wanting a studio scale AT-AT for many many years. Not sure how accurate this kit is? And what they used for reference for the color, scale and materials?
It's almost more fun watching this video just to see Adam's reactions than to see the product. (Though I wish there was a way to get hold of it -- great quality product is rare)
@@kylethedalek Yes, you can CNC almost anything. In this case, when making a cast or injection-molded part, you would CNC , aka "tool" the negative. i.e. cut material out of the steel or aluminum mold. That's how almost every plastic toy and consumer good is made. You use a milling machine to cut a cavity into a block of metal then squish hot plastic, or expanding resin into it. The accuracy depends on your tool tolerances and how soft the mold material is but generally you are talking about .01 or a mm or better. Just look at your phone or watch. These parts were manufactured using milling machines and molds.
I tend to believe the makers have developed a proprietary process of creating their molds. I also believe this kit is ridiculously expensive; though that's relative to a serious collector. That fact that it's poseable I think requires a stop-motion fan film once it's completed! Peace and love.
It's also possible to get "homemade" projects professionally manufactured. I'm a toy designer and have worked with factories to have one-offs and low-run items tooled and produced. Injection molding into steel is very expensive but using aluminum or other soft, reusable materials is not out of reach. I'm currently working on a studio-scale kit for the Space 1999 Eagle Transporter. I plan to get resin kits out sometime in the near future.
This does feel at the cutting edge of a garage kit. But professionalism is just a function of time and experience. If this person didn't have the experience they obviously had the time. And if they've come up with the proprietary process for making their molds, they could be absurdly wealthy if they market it because they will be singular in the history of the industry.
@@torymiddlebrooks Silicon mold making is a very tried-and-true process. With skill and good tools pretty much anything can be replicated. Adding shutoffs and inclusions into the molds adds complexity but it's not new. According to the model-maker's website, this At-At model uses a combination of resin, ABS and nylon parts with metal reinforcements. The nylon and ABS bits would likely be injection molded. The resin bits might also be. Make no mistake, this may be a "fan made" model but it's been designed and produced by a group of professionals. It's also very very expensive.
@@torymiddlebrooks I agree with you that this is right on the edge of being a "garage" kit. It kind of feels like a professional kit using semantics to avoid Disney lawyers. Regardless of the origins, it's a lovely model.

If I remember correctly the vinyl kit was from elfin ( I made that forever ago ) it didn't require as much extra work as some of the ancient vinyl kits 🤔 unless you didn't cut the excess off correctly then they were buggers to fix
I'm a true trek fan, always will be, but to see the quality of these pieces and recognize the joy on Adams face.....boy I can appreciate this moment, its the same if someone presented me with a perfect model of the enterprise or the stargazer. I love how he has love for the artistic movement too. Power to the people ✊❤
Absolutely amazing as a ancient modeler I have spent many hours correcting and fixing problems with ye old resin. This is a master craftsmanship piece. The engineering and the execution of each part is exquisite! The carefully crafted gear teeth gave away the pose-ability. This needs it's own series for the build but first I want to see Norm's reaction to seeing it. To the makers of this fine piece I would I would like to remind you of these word from the infamous Yogurt: "Look what fine Murch-un-dice and may the Schwartz be with you"
Adam's sheer joy at the quality and detail of this kit is as enjoyable to see as is the kit itself.
"I'm annoyed by how perfect this part is" has to be the absolute greatest compliment I've ever heard, especially coming from a man who's worked film models and sculpture before, this being a fan project and NOT for screen use is an incredible example of passion project to it's greatest extent
As a mold maker, I’m super impressed. It definitely inspires me to get my own garage kits finished and out there.
Makes me want to buy a Resin 3d printer
Straight up gorgeous! To the maker/s of this AT-AT, well done!
Can't wait for the Build, Paint and weathering video ... Do it! Do it now!
This model is so clean it just screams to have an interior built into it.
Grant would for sure have considered motorizing it. I still miss him.
@@Craftlngo
He would have made it "drivable", no doubt.
@@Craftlngo Don´t we all..? Just the mention of Grant brings tears to my eyes...
@@carlosbovia6813 Grant was just a year older than me. That makes me heavily thinking

Watching how genuinely exited Adam is about this kit was really heart warming. Thank you for being who you are, Adam.
Thanks for not ratting them out to the mouse empire. Beautiful work.
I love the AT-AT and this shows the love for this vehicle and Star Wars. Star Wars fans and model makers are amazing.
Having Adam say holy shit, that's how you know its phenomenal.
I do a lot of 2 part RTV molds. That AT-AT body is a thing of beauty!
I don't do any casting myself. But as an avid collector and painter of Dungeons and Dragons miniatures, I've come to really appreciate well cast models. This is so beautiful, and of such an incredible high quality. I'm well and truly blown away.
I'm always happy to see quality work like this.
As a GUNDAM Model Kit builder, this, absolutely BLOWS MY MIND!! What a work of art……. 🤯
That's one of the finest garage kits I've ever seen.
The creators of this kit had to beaming with joy every time Adam did his oohs and aahs.
Some dedicated models have identified each piece for EVERY Star Wars ship. Glad I know all the parts to the AT-AT. It's been years.
Oh my! That looks like the perfect scale for Star Wars Legion!
That is one beautifully molded kit, never seen a garage kit that good.
This looks like its higher quality and more professionally made than obscenely expensive resin kits from big-name companies that I've seen other people build on TH-cam. *cough*ForgeWorld*cough*
Kudos to the makers, whoever they may be.
the forgeworld mantis build ive watched was apalling quality for such an expensive model!
@@SheepySapling Let me guess, Squidmar's fallen Manta diorama?
This is exactly what I was coming here to say. Forge World should be embarrassed by their quality compared to this.
Beautiful sculpt and beautiful cast! I cannot fathom the amount of time and effort that went into acquiring the skills to execute a project like this so flawlessly
That kit is going to be so much fun to weather and add wear and tear to it when it is put together.
Right?
This is craftsmanship. I'm not even a huge starwars fan and I want this. This was made by people that love and take pride in what they do. That can ALWAYS be appreciated.
I'm not usually into model building, but HOLY SH*T, that is gonna look gorgeous, I guarantee
Oh please please please let this be a build and detailing you do on screen!!!! Best thing I’ve seen so far!!!!!
With how amazing these castings are, I wouldn’t be surprised if ILM or Weta tries to hire them if they aren’t already in the industry.
I doubt you know how to make castings like that if you aren't already (or previously were) 'in the industry'. That isn't some kickstarter team 'figuring it out' type product, it is obviously a team that has done it a lot already.
Adam is so knowledgeable in this field that he pulls out parts and instantly knows what they are without looking at the instructions.
The layered foam packaging is top notch next level of caring. 💪😉👍 Unlike so many other companies. 😣🤛
To watch the “king of the dorks” unpack your product like a kid on Xmas morning is the highest compliment. Watching an expert gush is amazing.
Build it already! The suspense of not seeing this built and painted is killing me 😭
We will! Stay tuned!

@@raidengl But I wanna to go to Tosche Station now~
Hats off to the makers, stunning kit.
Wow I would love to see some “mech” style kits by whoever made this this is incredible
That garage kit is better than some commercial kits I've purchased over the years thanks Adam
Looking forward to seeing the finished build. Please do a review of the build and result!!
TOTALLY will do this.
This video is amazing on so many levels.
And the mystery adds to it too!
Simply brilliant. Thanks you.
Holy cow Adam, That's a fantastic bit of kit. Thanks for sharing the unboxing of it.
I love seeing people geek out on beautiful experiences. I can completely relate to that euphoric feeling.
This is the dream I've had since 1980. So amazing
Adam; ".. I really want to build this."
my inner Palp; DEW IT.
Leaving Adam almost speechless is the ultimate compliment.
And yeah, if you are a person who needs one of there bad enough you already know where to get one.
Videos like this are my favourite just Adam geeking out over something awesome:)
That is a beautiful kit. Expertly crafted... amazing. I have made resin molds for many years and these are exceptional.
It must be quite gratifying for the creators, that Adam understands and appreciates the design decisions that were made, and can convey that to his audience.
I would appreciate the detail of it, but the intricacies of the process would be lost on me
THANK THOSE WONDERFUL MAKERS!!! Absolutely stunning! Glad you could at least share.
I would have loved to see Norm's reaction, Adam is such a tease with this show not tell!
Totally a tease to say he's going to get Norm, and not show him losing it. 🤪
Absolutely! I think we'd all love to have seen Norm's reaction to this kit!
I remember his reaction to the Razor Crest Model he recieved last year. He went totally out of his mind.
I think norm probably " wet "himself
I so much respect the way you have presented this by keeping your word and not mentioning the manufacture what a wonderful piece and you’re a wonderful man for sharing it with us thank you
When a pro loses their shit opening something and then after having time to digest and revaluat, and is STILL blown away, yeah that's some impressive work.
Once this label drops, I'm sure this video and those to follow will blow up their business on a whole new level. They 100% were right to do this, you can't buy marketing this good.
I see another video recommended to me seems to have same garage kit, wonder if they built it? Couple weeks old. I'll check after this
This is beyond stunning. Lucasfilm and Disney would be insane not to give these fine people their seal of approval - it would take ages to get one, however, given the mold turn-over. If Adam is over the moon about what you've done, you know you've succeeded in your goal.
The joy in this unboxing is a true panacea.
I dont think I've ever even had 2 parts that fit together without work in any garage kits lol
Who can blame Adam for not wanting to "spill the beans"? This is an absolute labor of love! I'd be tight-lipped too!
I can't wait to see this on a one day build!
Love it, want it, I'm green with envy. What a gorgeous kit! Please keep us up to date on your build. This is amazing.
Disney hates legacy Star Wars fans
It's true; fan made stuff is LEAGUES ahead of official merchandise, and made with actual love with the intention to please and amaze, and not just make a quick buck. All kinds of companies get pissy about this because they believe they should be the only true source of the best items, when neither of those things are true.
No he wouldn't have. Fantastic Plastic got slammed with a cease and desist order for their 1/72 star wars range well before Lucas sold off his assets.
@@streetwithoutjoyWell, that is unfortunate. I was always under the impression that Lucas was happy about anyone promoting and enjoying his creations.
Amazing attention to details and craftmanship in the design. And we can't even know who made it. Standing ovation!
What an absolutely amazing kit and would be soo happy to spend the money on buying this if it ever comes to market! Also, did I see it right in that the clapper board doesn't have the tape removed of any of the clips shot with it? That looked like a fair old chunk of tape layers :)
Correct -- the clapper has ALL the content Adam has shot since he got it! It's getting quite ... tall.

It's hard to believe these parts came from silicone molds. They look like they came out of a professional mold machine with proper tooling.
Is there a sci-fi model makers discord I can join where I might get a heads up on something like this beforehand? Also to share tips and tricks?

I’ve been looking for a stuff like this too.
There was a few forums were people were selling moulds, or kits from the original moulds.
But I’ve been wanting a studio scale AT-AT for many many years.
Not sure how accurate this kit is?
And what they used for reference for the color, scale and materials?
Exactly
It's almost more fun watching this video just to see Adam's reactions than to see the product. (Though I wish there was a way to get hold of it -- great quality product is rare)
I understand why the people making this can't be named right now but man I wanna see the behind the scenes production of this model so bad
It looks like it was 3D modeled and then tooled, probably CNC'd.
@@lo-firobotboy7112 CNC’d?
Can you CNC non metallic materials?
I would like to know how accurate it is too and what they used for references.
@@lo-firobotboy7112 he says in the video these are silicon molded parts
@@ethanbrackin569 Lol....Don't get them in trouble.
Can't wait to see this put together! The Hoth scenes have always been my favorite part of any of the SW films. The AT-AT is a gorgeous design.
@@lo-firobotboy7112 Yes, I know but thank you for sharing this with others.
@@torymiddlebrooks I agree with you that this is right on the edge of being a "garage" kit. It kind of feels like a professional kit using semantics to avoid Disney lawyers. Regardless of the origins, it's a lovely model.
"I'm annoyed by how perfect this part is..." Such a perfect Adamism! I wish I could see and touch these parts. I've been in plastic injection molding for 28 years, I know your knowledge of plastics, and I cannot even fathom the quality of the parts you are handling. I am beyond jealous...
the SCALE at which this MODEL pushes the TECHNOLOGIES at play for this "1/48 armored transport" are pretty great. a shame about the piracy stuff and them only making 25 kits of this.
