If you are ever in the market for a new desktop powerhouse video editor may I suggest you look at an AMD 3900x processor?
I've been waiting three months for the chip to arrive in the UK and it just landed this week. The build has an SSD for the operating system and an NvME m.2 drive for the scratch and project files. I have a modest graphic card by today's standards (RX 580) and a shit load of RAM.
I'm a humble amatuer working with DaVinchi Resolve 15. For my first project I'm using 4k files from my GH4. Just scrubbing through the 4k files there is the slightest of stuttering. However when I optimise the cache files everything becomes like shit off a shovel. All 12 cores of the CPU nearly max out, but not quite.
This is all a massive step up from my i5 processor and dedicated SATA SSD Scratch drive.
You could save yourselves some serious editing/rendering hours.
      😀

this was probably the best color grading video I have ever seen. Just the way you explained everything and talked was just so right. really good job. Not only did you explain very nicely, you also color graded the footage so professionally. You didn't over do anything. You did just the right amount for each step.

Love that drone flying footage guys, it's so slick. The grade works too and nice explanation on how you got it there from start to finish. I just upgraded from a 2011 imac so my render times went from 45mins down to 3...it's another imac, 2019 5k specc'd but WHAT a difference.

the amount of detail you guys put into color grading is something else. I usually color grade gopro footage from a flat profile.. Also a bit of a side question: is it important to conform your footage to your timeline frame rate before you import it to premiere? I often work with mixed frame rate clips in one timeline (some with higher framerates for slow motion and speed ramping). I always thought premiere will interpret the framerate on export anyways...

As to explaining what a graphics card does, when Bee suggested some people might not know that, it does not just render colors. A computer's central or main processor ("CPU") executes the main process logic of your programs, but it delegates complex tasks that it would have difficulties with, to other processors. An example is the mathematical co-processor ("FPU") that does complex calculations. The graphics co-processor ("GPU") does e.g. vector calculations for graphical objects that need to be depicted and/or shifted from frame to frame, anti-aliasing calculations, and many things more. That GPU is a super-computer in a chip. In slim notebooks, the GPU is less powerful because of space and electrical power limitations than in bigger boxes with a physically separate GPU on an expansion card. Interestingly, that super-computer in a chip can do a lot more than simple graphics: for example these cards or GPU are used for "bitcoin mining" (cracking encryption codes). In notebooks we see integrated or semi-integrated GPUs but these generally are less powerful than the separate expansion chip sets. I personally noticed that just plain watching 4K content in TH-cam on a top-end slim notebook may actually be impaired depending on the GPU set involved (and how good the version of the drivers is).

im actually am amazed just how "all knowing" you sound when you were talking about your new lappy... i found it funny coz im a techie guy but here's a question why didn't you use final cut pro in your macbooks? coz compared to adobe pr that is very well optimised for their hardware

This color correction and grading technique is like rocket science. Can you check out Cinema Grade plugin and see if it's exciting? I use it and it reduces my process by 90%.
