Basically everything I know about shooting video has been learned via TH-cam, but with no exaggeration this was hands down the most helpful tutorial I've watched to date. Color grading has had me banging my head against the wall so often it had me questioning whether or not I was cut out for this. This video was a game changer, thank you for this!!

This is by far the best tutorial I've seen, and for someone who's only about 9 months in to lightly babbling with correction and looking to become better at it, this is soooo helpful.

Wow! Nobody on TH-cam that I've seen has done that 3 adjustment layer color grading approach. It's definitely my favorite approach by far! It helps organize things and clear them up so much! Thank you!!!

not to be a jerk, but I think this video would be a bit more helpful if you simply stayed on the Premiere Pro screen when you explained instead of continuously cutting back to your self for the explanation. I am trying to get a handle of what you are doing in Premiere but every time I am just about to you cut back to yourself and I need to go back and pause the video to figure out what you are doing on your premiere pro screen. Just an opinion! Thanks for the content though, it was a great and informative vid!

I agree although the information is VERY HELPFUL I watch and learn from various editors and this was one of the more complicated to understand for this exact reason. Also, the speed of how people talk about what they are experts on should slow down just a little bit for your teaching those who are not experts. Still a very good video and im glad you made it I liked and subscribed. :)

To my understanding the changes to the skin tones is called secondary color correction, while the overall look is called color grading (and not secondary correction) primaries: big strokes of correcting and matching footage, secondaries: small strokes focusing on details, grading: giving a final look. anyway just nitpicking terminology - the important take away is to have a consistent and solid workflow like this... great video!

This is awesome great Tutorial, Though I would make a small note for those who shoot SLOG, if you want to take full advantage of SLOG, do not apply the conversion LUT on the 1st adjustment layer, that defeats the whole purpose of SLOG. Use the conversion LUT on the second adjustment layer. So when you do a color correction, you are affecting LOG information and not the converted REC709. Anyways great work, I can see how much effort went to making this video.

Actually a good tutorial on color grading.
What I would have done different:
Show the lumetri scopes and histogram while editing, so the viewer can relate on what you actually check, instead of saying "I do this while looking at the lumetri scopes"
I do the primary color correction directly on the clip so I don't have to chop the adjustment layer up.
Also I would have changed the skintone on the 2nd color correction so you can control it directly versus guessing what it will look like with the 2nd cc on it.
Last but not least I think beginners would have liked to see how you change specific colors, even though you liked the scene as it was.
Please notice that I'm trying to be constructive and in no way negative about your great work haha
    Nice tutorial for beginners!

  • @stefanh.1673

I have watched your video about Histograms and it truly was amazing to see such a complex topic wrapped in such a simple and logical package of information. The ability of explaining technical complex subjects in a way everyone understand is a true gift and I hope you guys proceed to do videos similar like Histogram or colourgrading.
In this video you scratched the topic of identifying if your image is balanced in colour. I would love to see a video that explains what it means that a video colour is "clipped" and how to exactly determine which colour and how much. I have huge problems to find a "natural" colour balance and often end up pushing around sliders forever till one video is balanced...but then often still there are differences between one video and the next. Is there a way to scientific get everything to a natural balanced colour for each and every clip regardless the light and WB settings? Thanks guys. 😊
