@durandol Depends on the mech and the genre of the anime. In any mecha series where the mech is remotely biological, it's pretty likely. Examples where it hasn't happened being Armored Trooper Votoms, Any Gundam series that isn't G-Gundam or Gundam: Blue Destiny, Blue Gender (the possession in this case was due to the character's own animosity and some drugs he was taking as opposed to the mech) and also Code Geass.
The mechs in this series move via an artificial muscle system instead of hydraulics What the pilots are never told is that the "artificial" muscle tissue was reconstructed from an organic source and that sometimes it likes to do its own thing
