    That is a nice combination of different techniques for breaking in a boar brush. Very informative as usual. Thank you for sharing.

      Thank you, DE Razor Shaving ~! That makes me very happy that you feel this was a good tutorial video... That was my goal. I can tell you that after you get your boar brushes broke in there IMHO is nothing like it ~! I love my boars. Kit

      What's crazy to me about a boar brush is that you want to make the bristles split ends.

    better then boar cheaper in the long run no break in .my Simpson Trafalgar is the best brush on the market today it's like buying a $200 badger hairbrush, no cleaning the brush, no need for a brush stand, fast drying time, well not fall apart like a badger hair or boar can, cheap to buy, I have owned it for 5 years with no hair loss with no problems wheelchair Larry Merry Christmas

      Thanks for your comment but I am die hard on my boar brushes..... but that doesn't mean they are for everybody. I think we all have our favorites and when I was still doing my channel vids I would often say for me or my opinion. My opinion evolved as I learned what I like over time and testing different products just as yours has I am sure. Kit

    Great boar knot break-in video Kit! ;) Can you do a follow-up video after five shaves? That would be interesting to see both brushes side by side with the same number of shaves on them. Have a good weekend and take care, my friend! :) #Heart

    If you want to break down the boar bristles, wouldn't soaking in water and freezing work better than just putting it in the refrigerator? Freezing water expands and would break down the cell walls and soften the bristles wouldn't it?

      I can not say I would freeze my Boar brushes.Not sure about freezing the wood Handles. However I post what I have done and what I know for a fact works without damaging my brushes. Bottom line if you want to try freezing then do as you wish but personally I can not recommend doing it ~! Kit

    36 hours or 3 days? You kept mentioning both. Which one is it?

    • @deshavetalkwithkit8935
      @deshavetalkwithkit8935  ปีที่แล้ว

      The minimum I have used is 36 hours and the number I saw online from others on the time frame was 3 days. I don't think it is that critical really but I does seem to help the Boar hair split which is the goal . Kit

    Two questions. First - is this recommend for boar brush that has already been used for about a year or is it already broken in? Second how much borax and how much arm and hammer to use- ratio? Thank you - great video but it would be useful to know

    • @deshavetalkwithkit8935
      @deshavetalkwithkit8935  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mel the ratio's on the borax and Arm and Hammer laundry Soap are about One third cup borax in a and 2/3 cup of laundry soap but the ratio's are NOT that critical here. Secondly the video was intended to be applied to a brand new brush right out of the box so you DON"T need to take a year to break them in through normal use. I don't like the smell of boar brushes and my break in gets rid of the smell in 36 hours. Now if you have a boar you have been using for a year the break in I use will NOT damage your brush but the question is how much at that point do you need to use my method? I would say this if the brush does not smell and if it has broken or split hairs and it splays well than you do NOT Need more break in but if not do the break in anyway it surely won't hurt the brush to do the break in ~!

      Thank you for your response. Have seen a number of videos re: breaking boar brushes in, but yours is the most thorough, makes the most sense - and effort. I'm looking forward to the process and thank you for breaking down the process further for me. I have a number of shave brushes including pure badger, badger/boar combo, synthetic, but only one pure boar. The old warrior I obtained as a kid in college. I'm retired now and it's my favorite brush albeit a good amount of it is sentimental. Thought I would give the old boy a little break and have the heavy lifting done by a couple of newbies - an Omega Pro 48 and a Zenith Scrubby Chubby. The latter has a pretty stiff spine, but I like it- a lot! Again, thank you for that great video, your time and effort with the additional information!

    Can this be used for badger as well?

    • @deshavetalkwithkit8935
      @deshavetalkwithkit8935  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but you do not need to rub badger brush hairs on a towel like you do for boar brushes. The reason is badger hairs don't split ~! Kit
