Interesting. I have lived in the Northwest my entire life and I have never heard the term "Oregon out back" until this video showed up. I actually Googled the term. I guess I learned something new.😊

Was the detour to Newberry worth it? I've been thinking of doing that myself, as I've never been there.

I hope to do this ride someday in the near future. It looks like this year I’ll be doing a similar ride but staying on the asphalt most of the way.… Going from Portland/Mount Hood area through Madras Redmond bend Lapine down to K Falls.
Hopefully, traffic won’t be too bad sounds of Mount Hood, especially south of bend.

Thank you for sharing this journey! Planning on riding this in the end of summer! Really hope the smoke isn’t so bad again this season :/

Looks like your group rode a mix of rigid gravel bikes and hardtail. I'm scoping the second half of the route (from Prineville heading north), any recommendations on bike choice? Thanks for sharing your experience!

Honestly, north of prineville was super smooth sailing. I would recommend a smaller tire if that’s the only stretch you’ll be doing. Drop bar gravel bike would def suffice. I had 29x3.0 and it was great for the “red sauce” area south of prineville but the roads smooth considerably from Prineville on up. Have a great ride! Hopefully wildfire smoke isn’t an issue

@@twotiredtalesbikepacking7274 thanks for the intel! That's super helpful with the bike choice; for wildfire smoke we'll keep our fingers crossed and go early in the season.
