Actually, depsite the fact that I bought that record when it came out - it felt always a bit unsatisfying for me. I really wanted to love it - as much as Gothic for example. But I actually didnt. Not saying that is a bad album in any regard but Gothic and Icon delivered it more for me.
After so many years, I'm listening back to these albums. I was one of those who thought that the disappearance of the grunt voice ruined the genre. Only My dying bride faired well after the change. Shades of god was for me the pinnacle of the era. And Anathema, Paradise Lost and My dying bride were the Trinity. Tiamat were anemic :) Of boy, I was 14 and very convinced of my tastes :) :) :)
so, I found out that Shades of God got extremely positive reviews when it came out, even being called one of the best metal albums in 1992. and today, most people don't talk about it. Cause a year later they released Icon, and two years after that Draconian Times. That's when you know what fucking talented musicians these guys were in their youth!
Sadness lives after we die The pains of life increased outright Contempt and sins priorities... To cush good fortune Morning... Morning's calm, inside cry This painful live has raped my mind Take me down, slow release From sorrow's penetration Morning... Life is there for me Hell is there for me Sunlight greets my opn wounds Morning's light reflects the doom My soul is free, it lives again To roam alone in darkness Morning... I've cried for God And I've cried for you I pray that in the end Your sense will break though Sadness lives after we die The pains of life increased outright Contest my sins priorities Crushed my spirit to its knees
stayed up all night stoned listening to shadows of god the other night, it's like if an aggressive rob zombie sang on the forest of equilibrium album. such a damn good album and band. shadows of god, draconian and icon are their best.
If someone asked me to compile something like a 'Sountrack of the Ninetees' then Pity the Sadness would definitely be a part of it. 'Shades of God' is a great album anyhow, the atmosphere on there instantaneous brings back all kinds of memories; the fact that it was already lardated with melancholy at the time of its release contributes immensely to that precise aspect at present, thirty years later. Mind you, initially I typed "twenty years later" in the above ... 🤨
I saw True Belief on Headbanger's Ball, run to the shop and bought Icon outright and a few days later Shades of God, it was 1993 or 1994. I was 15yo back then and got myself then a herbal tatoo of Paradise Lost styled along my hand, looked kind of cool. I considered doing the band's logotype, the Celtic Rose as a true one on my forearm recently. I listen and follow the band for 30yrs now and been to their several concerts. I was brought up on Metallica, Sepultura or Iron Maiden, but Paradise Lost are the GOAT IMHO. Pure music poetry. They rezonate with me and my feelings so well. I guess the same kind of sarrow sensitivity.
This was my introduction to Paradise Lost and I fucking died inside when I found out they didn't do another album in this particular style. Such a missed opportunity.
nick only here for the beer holmes was a good lyricist. I used to listen to this on cassette in 1992 in h.s. The guitar solos are awesome as are the riffs and lyrics. The stuff after this is not as good I think. this is their best album. I used to play Entombed Wolverine Blues, Fight War of Words, Mercyful Fate Into the Shadows, Cathederal The Ethereal Mirror, and Sacred Reich Independent back then. Awesome stufff!
which Trouble song is it that has a riff that sounds just like the one in this song? This song came on a playlist randomly and I was convinced it was a Trouble cover.
Kind of skipped this album back in the day, dunno why, perhaps because it came after the flawless "Gothic" and before their breakthrough album "Icon". Time to pick it up again. "As i die", "Mortals watch the day" and "Pity the sadness" are great.
Shades of God is a masterpiece, I remember when I was fourteen yrs old and I fell in love with that album, it's a part of my soul.
Same for me. Tattooed in my brain and soul.
I can relate to every word you said.
same for me! Masterpiece. One of my first concert: Paradise lost, Sepultura, Katowice 1994
@@bluenotebigbends and on my skin too

One of the best heavy metal songs nobody heard of. So good.
Doesn't matter if Paradise Lost makes a Gothic Song or pop-rock the atmosphere on it its just awesome!
Chwała wyznawcom!Takiego grania już nie będzie!

Damn...What a voice, man.
Epic times, epic music and epic band!
I really love this.... Paradise Lost is one great band!
SHE WAS.....
MrVELIMOR why was? they still are great and heavy.
Love it! I have a lot of mellow fave bands but these are great.
Worldin Pains l
I thought the same in -94. They still are!.. Timeless metal! Love it so much!
This song got me into death metal back 1992. I loved the energy and growling of it.
What a truly great song. Very underrated
I first saw this on MTVs Head bangers ball, it was my first experience with the band and i've been in love ever since.
Best Paradise Lost song🤟🤪🤟🇮🇹
My start into a Lost Paradise.....when I was 19.....melancholic and so beautiful....
same here, but I was a bit older
Sadness lives after we die
The pains of life increased outright
Contempt and sins priorities...
To cush good fortune
Morning...
Morning's calm, inside cry
This painful live has raped my mind
Take me down, slow release
From sorrow's penetration
Morning...
Life is there for me
Hell is there for me
Sunlight greets my opn wounds
Morning's light reflects the doom
My soul is free, it lives again
To roam alone in darkness
Morning...
I've cried for God
And I've cried for you
I pray that in the end
Your sense will break though
Sadness lives after we die
The pains of life increased outright
Contest my sins priorities
Crushed my spirit to its knees
Remember seeing this video on Headbangers Ball around 1994. I loved the song then and still love it. Probably their best imo.
their best song from their best album
It's a pity it was the only album they recorded with this particular vocal style. I liked it a lot at the time, I was in high school then.
i also love "icon" very much.
As i die is better tho
Tohle je Paranoid made in Paradise Lost - velký hit!!!
This album helped me get through a very heavy break up. And i still suffer for it. But pity not the sadness
From France i understand you!
The Ace Of Spades of Gothic Death Metal. :)
Doom death metal
Gothic? 😩
Two of the greatest lines in Doom/Gothic Metal.
"Sunlight greets my open wounds, morning's light reflects the doom"
It's just superb.
apart from pitying the sadness, we should also pity the fact that the last part of the video is cut short :(
I know, where did the rest of that awesome guitar solo go?!
@@richardcrook2112 ikr !?
Brilliant band, track and record

Fully agree.

Shades of God, my favorite album

Real Metal here
they were very early on , the angular stone of the then emerging , gothic metal genre !!!
Classic
Ahhh .Israel, 1992 ,Roxen club in Ram Gan. This song sounds like a "nostalgia " actually like other 90's greatest songs of Paradise Lost .
I'm in love
Melhor fase da banda !!!
Everything, just every moment of the music and the video is so beautiful and plain sexy, while the meaning of the song is so painful.
Epic!!!!
Best gothic metal band!
😩
light song
Paradisellica NICK HETFIELD I love Paradise lost forever!!!!!!!
"This painfull life has raped my mind"
🤘🤘🤘
Still does...
Some songs and bands save lifes...

Acabei de assistir ao show dessa grande banda aqui no Rio(17/10/16). Postei Pity the Sadness ao vivo no canal.
Heavy Metal at maximun expression yeah!!! good very good...

Top👍👍👍👌👌👌
First time listening to this and wow what's up with the drums? Kinda bothers me too much to really enjoy this
It doesn't quite measure up to the immortal Gothic, but a great album nonetheless.
Sadness live untill we die!!!
nice music !! lml

do you even have frg registered Paradise lost Dynamo 1992 in your archives
At this festival, they called As Die for the second time
1a song
Aaron with hair? LOL!!!
I like his nose way much more before surgery
Stara Metallica, Stary Paradise Lost,Stara Anathema
Wszytko co stare......
Wszytko,na zawsze.....
