Well, Tragic Idol and The Plague Within are in the same line as this amazing song (and album) so we can still say they are the greatest gothic metal band ever ;)
As I die Stare as eyes uphold me And wait to see right through And curse me... the love has crippled you Shadows haunt the night Burning my disguise Reaping through the truth Life becomes untrue Sin the last diversion My fate will be untouched Dismissed now, the anger of a fool Shadows haunt the night Forgive me as I die Taking a chance And take what you gain My soul it has no price Total release is out of harm's way Until I can decide You push me, can't you see, I'm not real Tears are flowing free, passing by, as I die
I am building a retro nerd cave in my basement. I sit there with my Amiga computers listening to this awesome tune just like it was 1993 again . I miss being 14 years old.

I never liked their direction after this album and frankly abandoned them until about a year ago when I heard the plague within in my local pup, back with them.
I liked from "In Requiem" and forward. Personally, I think that was their bounce back trajectory but I definitely enjoy The Plague Within more than any other of their "new" albums.

No Forgiveness is their best song, Shades of God their best album. It was my #1 metal album of all time for many years but has since been supplanted by various black metal albums. Still enjoy the nostalgia blast of some early 90's PL though. They should have been way bigger.
How are they underrated? They maybe the first to incorporate death/doom. Along with Anathema and My Dying Bride they became the famous Peaceville Three. If only they gave up playing rock and returned to their roots sooner.
@@metaltak1154 I grew up on them in the 90s, along with other similar bands during that era. All my peers know them and worship their early work. Now if you ask me about new bands that play similar style I would probably unable to say who they are. There're a few newer bands such as Draconian and Swallow the Sun that I enjoy to listen but to me, the Death/Doom of the early 90s will forever remain the best. I guess because I was born in the 70s.
Makintosh is right up there with Tony Iommi as being a riff master. There are so many hooks in PL songs and tempo changes. A key ingredient to their playing.
Ainda me lembro de ter tido o primeiro contacto com este video no programa euroritmias da rtp tv2 corria o ano 1992 , o programa em causa era o raw power que passava julgo que a terça a tarde
I remember when I heard this first in the 90s as a child. This song will never get old, just like that child.....
That time it was a shocker to me, so brutal and now its like a honey!
it's my childhood too.
🤘😔🤘
Completely legendary band since their "Lost Paradise" album.
One of the pioneers, of british death doom!
That guitar melody is just so hauntingly beautiful. I can't believe I'm just now getting into paradise lost.
Remember when MTV was about music?
SpartaMou5 yes now it’s about bikini 👙 pool parties
Yes. Even then it SUCKED. A 2 hour metal show a week and a 2 hour Alt. show. BIG DEAL! LOL
I guess I still have some Headbangers Ball Shows on VHS.

I guess the good just ended with Icon, then the music quality deteriorated significantly towards electronic stuff unfortunately...
I agree my friend!
Szittya Gazell nah. they went back to their death/doom metal roots which is superior to this gothic stuff.
There are not Paradise Lost without Sisters of Mercy. God bless them both!
God...rofl and what exactly means "to bless" someone?
In my opinion their best song. Great work musically and lyrically
As I die
Stare as eyes uphold me
And wait to see right through
And curse me... the love has crippled you
Shadows haunt the night
Burning my disguise
Reaping through the truth
Life becomes untrue
Sin the last diversion
My fate will be untouched
Dismissed now, the anger of a fool
Shadows haunt the night
Forgive me as I die
Taking a chance
And take what you gain
My soul it has no price
Total release is out of harm's way
Until I can decide
You push me, can't you see, I'm not real
