Thank you for sharing this. To be honest, if every e4 player would go for Ruy Lopez mainlines I would love to play Marshall exclusively. Unfortunately I have to play in Slow Italian and Scotch much more frequently and I simply can't always get the counterplay I hope for. That's why I still mainly play Sicilian Sveshnikov.
@@someone7687 At first it was hard to play against everything like Spanish, Italian(Guiocon piano), scoth, 4 knights or viena. But slowely & steadily I'm learning theory move by move. So now I'm getting more comfortable in e5 than c5 since I'm a slow positional player & I like to maneuver my pieces rather than short tactical games!
@@someone7687 Have you tried a Black Lion-esque idea in the Giuoco Piano? Namely, instead of kingside castling, you go h6 and g5. Surprisingly enough, even grandmasters struggle against it. I started using it a short while ago and started melting my opponents when they play the slow Italian positions. As for against the Scotch, I used to take and then go Qf6; nowadays I take and go Nf6. Against the Scotch, this is known as the Schmidt Variation; against the Scotch Gambit, this is the Two Knights Defense which is one of the main lines.
Have you tried a Black Lion-esque idea in the Giuoco Piano? Instead of castling kingside, you play h6 and g5. Surprisingly tricky and incredibly dangerous. Very easy for White to go wrong. Ever since I started trying this, I started melting Italian positions. Apparently, even GMs struggle against this.
From my experience playing ruy lopez, the key move is e5 (and sometimes d5, especially in lines where blacks bishop is on b7). If white can safely play e5, 9/10 times it’s a good move. Black should always keep that in mind.
Cool video, I am just not sure why you would like to call these Anti Ruy Lopez weapons. I mean they are all pretty much part of the Ruy Lopez Theory, not just the classical closed ruy lopez lines. And I think people more get the feeling of wanting to avoid the ruy lopez instead of enjoying it. I think the ruy lopez has a great variety of variants which to me is very appealing and so it has developed to be one of my favourite openings in chess
Because I want to know how intermediate players will respond to positions when they have at least a little time to think about moves, I typically run analysis with the Lichess database filtered to show just 1200-2000 ranges with blitz and bullet games disabled. In the Jaenisch Gambit, the top response to f5 is Bxc6 (30%), and the 2nd most common is exf5 (29%). For that 59% of the games, black wins about 53% of the games, compared to about 43% for white. Looking at all the games in this variation, black wins 49% to white's 46%. Getting even a small edge like that for black after just 3 moves is pretty good. d3, which is the top engine move, is 3rd (24%), and Nc3, which is most common in the masters database is 4th (11%).
I second the idea that while solid enough, these aren't really Anti-Ruy. Every Spanish player will expect these. They won't expect the Bird Variation, Cozio or Norwegian variation for example. I'd definitely consider a video on those lines. If I were playing against you I'd consider the Norwegian for sure as the problems only exist if White allows a chaotic mess. If White doesn't do that, Na5 would almost be a refutation of th Ruy.
I'm thinking to switch to Janeisch because I learnt some theory of Marshall but only 20% of Spanish goes to Marshall in my level. Also, f5 has the best score(44%/6%/50%!) in Lichess database. (blitz and longer, 2000 and higher)
I'm so annoyed by the fact that there are certain people who do not book up on the Ruy keep forcing trade on c6 immediately no matter Berlin, Cozio, Smyslov, Morphy defenses that I play, except the Bird

I'd be interested in an anti scotch video
I'll be doing that in a month or so.
@@HangingPawnsdon’t forget about the Accelerated Panov video, please
I'd like to hear your ideas for taking on the Petrov outside of the common main line.
@@OfficeChair42 I have success with the Modern, but he does have a video on the Petrov.
Great to see you play classical 1.e4 e5 openings! Ruy Lopez such a great opening for both sides
The Cozio variation with Nge7 and Ng6 is very fun to play as well, and it's very irritating from the white perspective.

I switched from Sicilian to Ruy Lopez
@mastergameschess once I will find a dynamic weapon against slow Italian and Scotch I will consider this as well.

Mine is opposite. My opponents played so much of Italian openings, I dropped 1...e5.
Love Italian for both sides❤
I will do the same for the Italian. Being prepared as I write this. The italian is common on all levels, the Spanish more so on higher levels.

thank you so much for your efforts 👏🏼
Thanks a lot, playing a tournament in 2 weeks and finally I can prepare something interesting against the Spanish 😅
As a Ruy player pls delete this
What is your rating bro
@ 1700, so probs not that deep. But would be annoying in club games where I play higher rated

There's also a gambit closely related to the Gajewski and Marshall where you go ...8.Na5 followed by Nxb3 or d5 depending on what white chooses to do.
Hmmm. I don't know that. I'll study it.
at some point please could you make a halasz mcdonnell gambit video that arises from the center game that seems like an interesting opening

The Berlin isn't anything. You can just play Qe2 or d3 and have a normal game. There's also Nc3. Which is just the Spanish 4 Knights.
29:30 actually he has only been preparing it for 8 years.

I never find out who these people are, as my favourite sideline is the Bird variation 3...Nd4.
Also surely 4.Bxc6 is just stupid against the Cozio as the whole point of Nge7 is to make that less effective.
👏
