- Hello! My name is Stick the Eagle (“Stick” for short) and I am currently attempting a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. I am traveling NOBO from Georgia to Maine. Congratulations on the job. I have been struggling with finding a job as well, but I’m 1 appointment away from a school custodian position which starts 10/7. Trusted the process & god & I couldn’t be happier. Happy trails to Mt. K I’ll be watching!

Teacher! WOW … straight day shift, all major holidays off, paid summery off! Opportunities to help to mold young minds! Get to still do summer camp! Get to go to church on Sunday ( or minister, possibly on line ! somehow, maybe use the channel to upload Sunday inspirational? “ futures so bright … I gottuh wear shades”❤
Straight day shift? Well, if you consider teaching all day, tutoring all afternoon, and grading all night to be "straight day shift". It's actually a rather time-consuming job. But getting summers off is a nice perk!
@@patriciakkrivoshein6887 yea … I’m a nurse , worked 12 hr -16 hr shifts starting at 7 am and literally…Never getting to done in a daylight situation …. So I think your position is for the most part…. A better option of straight day shift. Just my opinion, my nephew is a high school English teacher and I use his situation as a comparison. Sorry if that offends you. ❤️🙏

That is SO exciting that you'll be a middle school math teacher! My career was as a high school math teacher. I felt like I was a "math missionary" because so many students just could not see what the use of higher-level math was to society. But my original career, before it changed when I had children, was working as a chemical engineer. So I could tell them about how math was used in that job as well as other applications that I had learned. (For example, my son took classes in electrical engineering. He told me once, "I don't know why we have to learn polynomials -- we mostly use Fourier transforms to change everything into sine and cosine". I told him, "Really? In chemical engineering, we mostly used Laplace transforms to change everything into polynomials". That's because electrical engineers deal mainly with periodic functions and chemical engineers deal mainly with non-periodic ones. While both electrical and chemical engineers use both Fourier and Laplace transforms, electrical engineers primarily utilize Fourier transforms to analyze signals and frequencies in their systems, while chemical engineers tend to rely more on Laplace transforms for solving differential equations that model chemical processes. As I taught math, I found many other applications as well, such as using number theory in cyber security coding for banks & such. There are a lot of cool books out there about the many ways math is used!

I hope this lightened your load for the trek to Katahdin - less worry and stress for a lighter heart, mind, and soul. You have worked hard for this opportunity and I know you will do well. Congratulations! I’m sure you’ll be an excellent teacher. My husband and I are retired teachers. Teaching is challenging but very rewarding.
In 2008 when I hiked the trail, I think there was a rope across the Big Wilson ford. That could be it. And, yes, congratulations on your job. You will do well, and most importantly, the pupils will do well having you as their teacher. May God bless your work venture.

Great tip for fording. I remember when that area had more water flowing, and Master Splinter had to help Leo across. And if Im not mistaken, had to cross back and forth 3 times. One to take Leo across then back to get both their back packs and then back again. Im still praying the weather stays nice and dry for this last section.

Congratulations and best wishes on your job. Math was always my best subject, and the one I liked the most. When I was in middle school, my math teacher was solid, but my science teacher was the bigger inspiration. In high school, I was lucky to have several math and science teachers who were both solid and inspiring. Then in college, I had one professor who had just won the Nobel for physics before I was in his freshman physics class, and another one who won the Fields Medal (Nobel equivalent for math) during the semester I had him. If I'd had lousy teachers almost anywhere along the way, probably I would have never gotten accepted to a college like that, no matter how inspired I was.
So my teaching advice, is to do a really solid job first, before worrying about inspiring kids to love the subject. Some kids will and some kids won't (care about the subject) no matter what you do. Serving both the gifted students who are into it, and also serving those who are struggling, are both important. And don't forget the kids in the middle, those who work to do well at things they don't naturally do well at.
No pressure, but the future of the kids, and therefore the economy and national security, are in your hands.
