Love the look of this! I'm not a DBZ fan myself, but I know the armor, and this is just a great evolution from the standard white and yellow design from the show. That gold REALLY pops, the same finish would look amazing on some gold accents on medival armor, or even on an Iron Man armor. Really great work!

I tried making this armor a long time ago, can’t wait to try and make this some day! I challenge myself to build my first version in a day using only what I had, and it only lasted about a day! But it got the job done!
I'm running out of adjectives to describe your work Steve, so I'll have to go with "awesome". It is interesting to hear that you wanted to do a red primer for the metallics, but when you show of the armour after the 3 coats of bronze, it is actually wicked, and although flat, I don't know if I wouldn't just run with it as it was.
@@SKSProps Steve, I just rewatched your video, as I'm doing a samurai armour and I have another question for you: any particular reason why you used 10mm for the base and not 6mm? I was thinking of using 5mm (which is what I have and got at an online shop in Belgium) which will have 2 layers after the details, but after watching your video, I'm not sure if it is a good plan. My doubt is if with 2 layers of 5mm it won't be to flimsy, but I'm afraid that going with 10mm and 5mm that it might get too bulky...

My 8 year old daughter is all about DBZ and Vegeta. We're going to give this a go (and i get to re-live my cosplay and con crunch days lol). I'm assuming there will be lots of scaling the size of the pdf tp figure out her small frame, but def excited to give this a go!

@@nancytruong3910 99% of the time I don't ever seal my paint jobs because it kills the sheen the different matte and metallic paints give off. the other issue you run into is clear coats can wrinkle or crack if applied to heavily

First time viewer, instant subscriber. As a bit of a bigger dude, (similar height to you, just heavier) I've often had issues with scaling and such. I've wanted to do a Saiyan build for a long time, so this will definitely be on my list of projects in the hopeful near future!

I'm not gonna lie, as someone who not only loves DragonBall Z, but is very critical when it comes to good cosplay for it, I couldn't help but be skeptical from the start of the video. But no, much to my surprise, even though the finished product is what inititally made me skeptical, after seeing you go through the process, somehow that made it look better, more accurate. And I have to hand it to you, this IS probably the best pattern and design I've seen implemented for this type of Saiyan Armor. But I do have one very importabt question: how truly flexible is it? (As in, when you're wearing, how flexible are you and the movement you can do while wearing it?) Because for me, that's 100% when it comes to cosplay; that my movement isn't restricted.
Thanks! Foam is flexible there shouldn’t be any issues with your arms. The only thing that might be hindered would be your spine in bending over depending on how far you have the armor coke down. But honestly I don’t think that would be bad either. Be sure to check out part 2 where I show how to cel shade

No, foam is inexpensive,forms well, is a good thickness, and is lightweight. I don’t know what kind of plastic you are considering but even if you were to vac form some shells. The cost of the vac former, material, and overall comfort wouldn’t be worth it

Love your painting methods. How do you avoid those pesky brush strokes when hand painting acrylics on something that's supposed to have a uniform finish like that armor?
Thanks! A lot of it has to do with the quality of your brush and the quality of your paints. The cheaper the brush the more rigid the bristles and the cheaper the pain the lower the pigment count. Plus I've been painting for 30+ years so technique of handling the medium is important as well.
That's great1 It's hard to say but maybe 15-20% you're just going to have to play with it as you can see it is even big for my face but that is on purpose
For height increase the percentage scale it’s printed out. For width you’ll see on the template armor side where you can extend or cut down the foam to fit you

I have the templates downloaded, but the additional material part causes me some doubts, whether I should leave them or not, in my case I am not a very robust or wide man, I am 1.80 cm tall and weigh 73kg and I have an athletic build, but I am not width, so, I have cut those insoles with additional material in case I have to adjust them to my measurements, the problem comes from the fact that I don't know how to adjust them or if I really need that additional material for my complexion, I have never done anything similar and that causes me doubts If you can give me some reference I would appreciate it, maybe for my height and build with the standard measurements it would work? My question here is how to adjust it. I can even give my chest and waist measurements. 91cm chest and 80cm waist, which I understand are the parts that can vary the dimensions of the vest. Thanks! I’d look at a hardware store for pipe insulation. It usually comes in a package rolled up you can cut them in half. It won’t be as smooth as hd-foam dowels but you gotta work with what you can get 👍👍
Okay, dumb question, but any hints on how one would modify this for a girl cosplaying like Fasha or Gine? I assume one could do it the same way as any other modification to the pattern, but just wanted to ask in case anyone else has done it.
I had a couple of girls modify to fit them. Scaling for one I know was scaled down 20% from the original. For the breast I’d heat up larger pieces and press them into bowls to get a more complex curve shape

Thanks! They are actually a pair of old leather shears from Tandy leather. I bought new ones so I tried these a while back on foam and they work great!
Sorry, We’ve got a bunch on the way just waiting on the boat to get here. Michael’s used to have some as well. Their foam sheets are terrible but their dowels were a different density. Before my half rounds people used to try to use window insulation rounds and cut them in half. But they are very porous so they won’t have a smooth finish

First off thanks! The red primer would have just made coverage a lot easier I could have done just one coat of the bronze then moved on to the gold.

What If I don’t want the chest part to be raised or the abs to be a different piece. What if I just want it to be completely flat?
Then modify it to make you own templates so it's flat

Hi! I tried printing your pattern off of your website, but I don't have the option to print it as "poster" size, do you have any recommendations for this?

when do you use super glue and when do you use contact cement?
I only use contact cement for large or heavy wear parts otherwise I use superglue because it cures faster and keeps the build clean

Thanks! They are actually a pair of old leather shears from Tandy leather. I bought new ones so I tried these a while back on foam and they work great!

They didn't have the smaller foam tubes as they are OOS. Do you have any suggestions on what I can use as a substitute?
Sorry, We’ve got a bunch on the way just waiting on the boat to get here. Michael’s used to have some as well. Their foam sheets are terrible but their dowels were a different density. Before my half rounds people used to try to use window insulation rounds and cut them in half. But they are very porous so they won’t have a smooth finish

Follow the directions on my site and open the pdf in adobe acrobat or adobe reader and click poster in the page size area that scales it properly over several sheets regardless of your paper size
