How to Make DRAGONSLAYER from Berserk out of Foam! Only weighs 5 Pounds - Guts - Free PDF Templates

- Needless to say I am a huge Berserk Fan and I have always wanted my own Dragonslayer! But the thought of making a 6ft foam sword that looks great and is lightweight is definitely a challenge. Well over the past several weeks I took on the task to not only make Dragonslayer but craft a PDF template for anyone else that also wants to make one and give that template away for Free! This sword was a beast to craft and film but throughout this video I will go over all of the steps it takes to assemble this iconic blade. And to top it all off I give the sword the paint job and blood effects it deserves. I hope I have done Guts proud. Now let's go get Griffith!!!
**As a heads up I stated in the video that the foam blade needs to be cut at 60 degree but it's actually 70 I corrected this on the template so you should still be fine for the build

I was actually at the comic-con here in Kansas City the other day, got to meet this remarkable gentleman and got to see the blade up close. I had asked if I was able to simply hold it, since I am such a massive fan of berserk. And even with his (completely understandable) hesitation, he still let me hold it. One of the best moments of my life. Earned a subscription that day, can’t wait too see the rest of your content!
Thanks, glad you got to see it in person and welcome to the channel 👍
that shit is the best berserk prop ive ever seen on yt and its not even a competition wtf
Thank you very much!
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!
Have fun!! 🙌
This is quite the awesome beast of a sword. The gore splatter is a great addition. I could see all of my scraps being used up for the internal structure.
Hell yeah they could! 👍
Truly an amazing project and execution!! Everything from the base of the sword, it's stability and firmness to every single little detail added in the painting process. I've seen a couple Dragonslayer projects on youtube and this one is definitely the greatest one by far - not even mentioning the added layers of blood and damage build up. Absolutely incredible job
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it and I’m glad I can share my processes with the maker community. I enjoy crafting these types of crazy projects and hope they inspire others 🙌
For the algorithm! The blood detail is fire!
Thanks!!! 👍
This is so great. Trying to do this without a build video would kill me. One of my biggest struggles is trying to figure out when I'd need contact cement vs when superglue is what I'd need.
Thanks! I use contact cement on large, heavy wear, lots of stress areas otherwise I prefer superglue because it keeps the build cleaner
Waiting for the Berserk Armor XD AWESOMSE JOB, buddy ❤from Brazil
Thanks! No plans on berserker armor as of right now
Always love watching your technique. Amazing results, as always!
Thank you very much! 👍
bro creative skills is unmatched!!!!
Like, I've been waiting so long for this video to come out.
super fun watching you build it.
Thank you very much! 🙌🙌
I love that you emphasize learning from others, cause there isn't anything wrong in doing so. There really isn't an original design or method and you don't always have to come up with one ❤
Exactly 🙌
That turned out fantastic! I love how your finishing turned out!
Thank you! Paint makes the prop! 🙌
Looks amazing, loved that the process was shown
Thank you very much! 👍
Some other ways you can get more texture out of permablood is mixing in coffee grounds with it to get a gritty coagulated texture. Also they make permagore which is permablood with little hunks of a sponge material in it to simulate guts and heavier gore
I’ve used coffee grounds before on my miniature bases especially on Forrest grounds. but I’m not convinced it would ever be the correct consistency for blood chunks
FANTASTIC !!!!!! I LOVE THAT SWORD , waiting for the berserk helmet
Thanks
Hand down youre the best cosplay and prop builder. You’re the one who also inspired me to start this hobby and here I’m building a full dark souls costume for an upcoming comic con craftmanship contest. Much move from Hungary 🇭🇺 🤙🏼
Fantastic! I try my best and am glad I can help inspire 👍
Awesome technique used on this one Steve!!!
Thank you! 🙌
Brilliant video for an incredible project. Already got the core of the blade done and now I have to figure out the jig for the 60 degree angle. The most invaluable part of the video is when you remind us that things that don't quite work out can always become battle damage or hidden by blood. ;)
Fantastic! Have fun with the project and yeah always make use of battle damage! 🙌
love this video. you did a great job, and the explanations are fantastic!
Thanks so much!
Definitely happy that I came across your channel just in time for FanimeCon! I'll be going as Kite from HxH. I still need to make his scythe so I've been watching videos on what products are best and light considering my short stature lol. But for next year, I want to make the Dragonslayer and go as Guts so I'll def refer back to your video! Thank you for making the video easy to follow along and the template!
Glad to hear have fun with the build!
Thanks so much, as a berserk fan this is truly appreciated ❤
You’re welcome! Glad I could bring it to life 👍
That's jus crazy.. The blood effects look incredibly realistic.
Thank you! 👍👍
i love the sword, amazing work as always Steve. Only small input i have for the carriage bold its put a few nuts on it to help make it snug but adds more counter weight. just a small input but over all 10 outta 10. love it.
Thank you very much!
Been waiting for this...!!!!
Oh myGawd what a build! Think this one will have to wait until I get another bonus check from Lowes. You made me laugh out loud with the Dexter reference. I might have said Gil Grissom, myself. So many ne techniques! Thanks, Steve! You are awesome. And thank you for sharing with us.
Glad you enjoyed it Rex! And thank you for the kind words! 🙌
Awesome build!
Thanks! 👍
Wow, the size of this is crazy 🤩 Nice work. 👌
Thank you! Just moving it around to film the process was insane 😂
Saw this at pcc, absolutely insane build. Now to tackle this myself 😁
Thank you, and have fun!!
So cool, what an awesome video format. Makes me feel like I can make a greatsword, too
Thank you! And you can! 👍👍
Great work
Thank you so much 😀
I subscribed immediately!!! Can’t wait to start making it on my own 😭😭 will you ever do his Berserker armor?
Thank you! I've got a really long build list so I can't say it won't ever happen so maybe someday
Wow... just... wow. I REALLY want/need to take a shot at building this at some point when I build up the courage :D
Thanks!! 🙌
your mad skills are impressive!!
Thanks! Hope they inspire others 👍
Cool project, I think the crusted blood on the blade was really well done.
Thank you very much! 👍
Nice i like you use your foam as a support system thing as well 🙌 thanks for sharing
Thank you and you're welcome!
Ok I love this !
Thanks!
Omggg !! Love this im going to start asap
Thanks and have Fun!
YES! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You’re welcome! 👍
I really enjoyed this video. I’ve also learned some new techniques from this video like how you used a wire brush on the blade to make it look like it was grind, as well as the blood smears. Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much my friend
You’re welcome! 👍
What a monster of a build
It sure was. I rarely use the wide angle lenses but had to multiple times 😂
@@SKSProps what i particularly love about your builds is the details like the wire brush technique or the details in the middle of the blade and the gore 💪🏻🤘🏻 keep up the awesome work! You are an inspiration with every post 😁
(By the way, my current build in early development is Stun the Insect from Bloody Roar 4. I have a long way to go still)
Very nice man! Incredible work that you have done, I've already done a Dragonslayer, with a Functional piece of chain to put on my back, but I would like to know to do a similar blood paint work, as you have done on this dragonslayer.
Thanks
Perfection.
Thank you!
Hell yea Steve! Bad ass as always
Thank you! 👍
It would be EPIC to see you make the sword of griffondor
It's one thing to see it in the video, but at the planet Comicon was awesome! Only weighing 5 pounds really comes in handy👍
Thanks glad you got to check it out in person!
AMAZING!!! I will definitely put this on my project list! Btw, is there a chance that you will do more star wars related stuff in the future? like Jedi armor during the Clone Wars for example?
Love from Sweden
Thanks glad you like it! I don’t really have plans for any Star Wars props at this point but I just build what inspires me week to week so you never know.
If you want this to be functional to carry, what I did with mine was when I had the mount detail in place on the clamp/bracket (guard piece I guess but it's clamped/bracketed to a handle lol), I drilled into the pipe and screwed a heavy screw eye into it and put a rectangular carabiner on it that attached to a special hook I forged (bent metal of any kind will probably work) that was threaded through my shoulder strap on the back and lashed to my belt to keep it at an angle. Canonically, he uses a chain for that but I didn't have one. The hook I made looked like a cursive Y with a straight tail and the top outer point of the Y was angled to be straight up and down in the 3rd dimension. Hope this helps someone and wonderful job Steve!
Also, if you want the proper scale to you, Dragonslayer is 6' long and Guts is about 6'3". Have fun with the math! Scaling is necessary lest you have a sword that you can't wear or makes you look goofy lol
@@saintignatius714cool tips but guts is 6’8 😂
@VileRhythm whoops lol the info I worked from said he was 6'3"
@@saintignatius714 Yeah there’s a lot of discussion about it but I’m pretty sure he’s 6’8 (currently)
@VileRhythm It's tough to get it right as it is but as long as you know Dragonslayer's length, you can find his height from whatever picture you're working from so I guess it's down to what you think looks best
Ficou incrível
Thanks!!
Perfect, please make more template and learning video to make mask🫠
This is like one hundred times better than the one I make, it's time to make the dragonslayer V3
Just remember every build is a chance to grow your skillset. Glad I could help inspire and good luck with your new sword! 👍
Respect
Thanks 🙌🙌
Nice sword. A little on the smallish side, but still... 😉 Great job. Once again.
Thanks
Perfect :D
Thank you! 👍
this is absolutely awesome, now make it out of pure tungsten
Awesome, man! Thanks for the tutorial.
Any chance to see the Griffith armor here?
Thank you!!
I believe there is a typo in the template (and possibly the video) it states the edges should be cut at a 60 degree angle, but its supposed to be 65 degrees
Thanks for the heads up. It's actually supposed to be 70 not 60 (I write on my prototypes to much and forget to erase them) I corrected it on the template
@@SKSProps Thank you! That makes sense. I was using the protractor on my phone and it must have been measuring wrong. I tried to mess with it some more and, yeah, 70 degrees looks right
I was skeptical of the blood splatter at first, but that coagulation effect you added really sells it and makes this build stand out from other DS props I've seen put together in the past. Out of curiosity did you happen to see the @PrettyHateMachining build of a full size DS from solid steel?
Thanks! and yeah the aditional paint effects def help sell the prop. And yes he was one of the builders I checked out crazy heavy I'll stick with my 5 pound blade and easily move it around the shop 😅
Can you please do the reverse bear trap from saw?
Wondering how you get your foam rolls so flat and straight
Amazing job!
Thanks Lightly heat the foam then roll it the opposite way. Then I’ll stack it and put books on top until I’m ready to use it
I loved the tutorial very helpful
Can you make red queen from dmc 5 by any chance?
Thanks!!
could you do more dark souls armor videos? not just a helmet here and there but like maybe some chest peace or arm peace's?
Is there any tricks for getting the foam nice and flat upon arrival? With how thick the foam is and how long the pieces will be cut it takes awhile to get it flat using just a heat gun. After hitting it for awhile it still wasn't as flat as I'd like it to be. Maybe something like sandwiching it between something and letting it sit overnight for example?
I always hit the backside lightly with a heat gun then roll it the opposite direction. After that I’ll take my sheets and stack them with books on top to lay flat until I need to use them
How did you like Gap Filla? I love Prop Monkey's products - they work great for getting foam super smooth without witness lines.
It was ok. Usually I don't have seams to fill because I use my cutome sanding drums which make the surface extremely smooth. Otherwise it worked just a well as kwik seal and foam clay
Any plans to do a build video for the Starship Trooper's armor?
Already in the works
craziest thing is that i made this last year
Absolutely love this and can't wait to try to make my own what would the total cost of the materials be do you think?
Thanks! Foam, paint, pvc, and blood I'd say less the $100 in materials
I’m inspired to build this! How many sheets of foam do you recommend for this build? Look forward to more content from you 💪🏼🤘🏼
Thanks! I think it was 2 sheets of 10mm for the bulk of it
its awesome you made this i love greatswords!maybe you could make artorias sword from dark souls?
Thank you very much!
@@SKSProps your welcome your stuff is fantastic and i suggested artorias sword cause its my favorite greatsword and i plan to cosplay as him one day
The blood makes me scared… Scared of if I overdo it when I try this myself! Ty for the tutorial!
Lets be honest can you ever have to much! 😅 You do fine have fun 🙌
This is a great technique for any weapon this size... Did someone say Buster Sword? 😮
Yep the rafting would work really well there too 👍
In the next video can you do the mask of Enotrai the last song?
The game looks interesting but unless they move up that release date it’s going to be obliterated by Elden Ring dropping the same day
Time to crank up Beast In Black!
👍👍
There really is some serious engineering in this build to keep it hollow and light, odd angled seams on hard edge pieces are a pain but you gave me some tips to help mitigate that. And the touch of using the wire brush to add the ground metal texture for the blade of the sword is clever. This is an impressive build!@@SKSProps
hi! do you have any ideals on how to make a mask like Akali's mask from League of legends? :) it doesn't have to be identical, but something similar
Just use fabric paint on a face mask
Thanks for answer@@SKSProps but.. How to make mask? Do you have a tutorial?
🗣️BRO IS COOKING
👍
Where is the gold coming from on the textured area, seems like just one side but not the other?
The epoxy is so glossy that gold is coming from a light off to the side of my table, not an additonal color. The perma blood and epoxy is that good together
Also I'm a short person so I dont know how to carry that properly maybe I could scale it? But indont know how 😅😅
I'm not that tall, but at 5 punds it doesn't really matter it's suposed to be over the top 👍
So why superglue for the edges instead of contact cement
Keeps it a cleaner build and I don’t have to wait for contact cement to dry. But either will work
Where did you get this cotton from at 30:30 and what is it called I can’t find it l
It’s just a cotton white tee shirt ripped up and weathered
Hey! About how long did this whole process take you?
About a week but that’s also figuring out the template and filming the process
@@SKSProps wow that’s actually really fast, I want to make one for my first guts cosplay for an anime con this July! How much was all the material would you say?
@@VileRhythm hard to say because I’ve got everything on hand but probably $80 -$100 when you factor in the foam, paints, pvc pipe, etc
By any chance can I make it 8ft tall? I built a dragonslayer already but I do wanna make a new one again and the one I built already is 8ft tall
You can make it whatever you want but 8ft is not correct Guts is 6’3” in the manga
@@SKSProps I know but I wanna make it 8ft tall because it's funny to make it huge asf and also I'm already a really tall dude so I like having giant props lol
can we get a space marine armor build
No there are groups that do that already they use pepakura. Go search for the Warhammer cosplay group on facebook you’ll find pep files online
@@SKSProps thx for the info
any way to make it heavier?
I don’t know why you’d want to. But instead of rafting the interior just make it solid foam or add filler weights. Solid foam would probably be around 15 pounds
It measures 6ft in total, or only in foam?
Approximately I didn’t want any horizontal seams and guts is 6’3”
Fuck yea!!!!
🙌🙌
Why the soft body black vs heavy body?
Doesn't really matter on the black because I usually use Mars black for washes and not for actual paint layers. But it was on clearance and a hell of a deal so I picked it up
@@SKSProps thanks!
Can you make adam's helmet/mask from hazbin hotel please ?
I don’t take requests because my personal build list is very long
you should send it to me cus im literally guts
make a kamen rider helmet
What are the chances of ever seeing a proton pack made from EVA foam?
No point in me making one check out Lost Wax he made one a while back with templates
can u ship it to me....i wasted 20$ of my parents tried like 3 times and still cant build it..i am 15 year old please sir...i really do want a dragon slayer
😅 no, the whole point of this channel is to make you take the time to build your own props and costumes
@@SKSProps yees bro i tried ways of serveral youtubers but still aint able to make it........i tried yesterday also now will try again hhhhhhhhh.........
@@shinobee7327what exactly are you having trouble with?
