Suggestion, get rubber bowls for the winter. I have found that is the easiest way to water during the winter. Remember also rabbit handle the cold better than heat. Have you got nesting boxes for when they have their kits? The holes are very cute and great space for them.
How are you going to keep them warm during the winter? I would think that they would be cold coming the air coming up from the bottom. Are you going to enclose the bottom so they do get some air but the windows blocking them and then have a access hatch to be able to scoop out the poop? Are you going to insulate? Anyway, what are you gonna do with your bunnies for the winter?
I wish I could show you how others keep rabbits in winter here. It’s hard to understand looking at what we did that ours is highly over built with more wind and cold protection then what they came out of and survived just fine. Most keep them in wire all around cages, and some sort of cover to keep the rain off them, a (tarp)that’s it. But we will move them either into the coop, it’s insulated and closed, or we will move them under the cover of the barn where they won’t get wind on them. They will all have closed in nesting boxes this weekend that they can snuggle in. In traditional fashion around here they will get over the top treatment.
Very nice video, when drawing Birch water, it's best to put a top on the pail and hook a hose to the spout, that's what I do and you won't get anything in the bucket. I bet mom will love living in the cabin. It seems you guys always have fun building things to enhance your modern homestead.
I grew up making maple syrup on our farm each year. We did it the old fashion way, gathering the water from over 1200 taps. Then boiling it down in our sugar camp. Yes it takes quite a bit of water to make a little syrup. But it is so worth it when you can enjoy the fruits of your labor all year long. 💚
lots of cool projects accomplished! We used to make Maple Syrup and I had heard of Birch Syrup but have never tried it. 100 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup is quite a daunting ratio (maple is 40 to 1) but it is so worth it. Enjoy!
Love seeing Erin and you doing all this cool stuff. How nice you are going to have your gram stay with you. It will be awesome for her. She’s not used to being active especially in the cold. So don’t be hurt if she’s doesn’t adjust easily. Some of us elders find change hard. Hugs to you all.
No wonder pure syrup is so expensive! If you only get 11/2 pints out of 15 gallons, your syrup has a beautiful dark colour. Your rabbit hutch is so cute, great job! ♥️🙏🏻🇨🇦

So many changes going on this Spring!! Aaron's vision for the rabbit condo is great! Now, is your mother moving full time to Alaska? God bless you all!
Love the bunny dollhouse!! Looks awesome. Those rabbits won’t be sad living in that hut. Homemade syrup- Love how your using the resources around your homestead to provide for your needs. True homesteading right there!!! Love you guys!! My daughter is living in Alaska now. Hoping to get up there soon to visit both her/her new husband and beautiful Alaska.
I was about to go out and check on you…. It has been awhile since we have visited. Fancy hutch!! You are to be commended for always developing another food source. The changes of a family on the move! It will be interesting to see where everyone re-homes. Glad you will have your mom and grandmother near you. Embrace your new normal and I pray your blessings multiply!! Until our next visit….❤ Momma G
You should put down some mats in the hutch. While you have hay, they can still get bumble foot. Also, putting in some things to keep them amused they will be happier. They like rabbit toys and for both playing and chewing. Because they chew. It isn't a good idea to paint the wire as some rabbits will chew at the wire and become sick. The males should be separated as they WILL start fighting one another. Especially since they are so close to the female rabbits. By they way, to keep them healthy you should also give them a run. Rabbits will travel quite far in a day naturally. So they will need lots of exercise. Other than that. I am so happy to see that you guys got some meat rabbits. I have several and use them not only for food for us, but for our cats too! The fur is also a supper nice bonus! Plus, you can sell some of the babies once the mother has weaned them and that brings in some exstra income. Not much but some! Good luck!
Hi Jessica, Aaron and sweet family! Grandma made it and mom on the way hopefully. I’m guessing Calab is moving back home. Bless him for staying in the cabin by his self this past winter. The rabbit Taj Mahal looks awesome. Great job Aaron. Peaches is so cute. I don’t know if I would do the sugar water in the house. We always did syrup in the syrup shed by the creek. Made molasses and cane sugar syrup. It gets messy. Hope everyone has a blessed weekend ❤️
The homestead is coming along amazingly. I think Peaches is confused because she acts more like a dog than a cow 🤣🤣🤣. We are in the same mode with Spring projects around our homestead, just not enough hours in the day to get everything done before the Summer.
Great video Jessica. Love the rabbit hutch. Like everything there, it’s so cute. We were visiting friends today and started talking about tapping birch trees. Meat rabbits are a excellent choice for a homestead. One buck and two does will give 80-100 rabbits per year. A rabbit and a chicken are close to the same weight and everything you can do with chicken you can do with rabbit. Looking forward to seeing the pics of your garden this year. What a nice gift of the cabin for your mother. The swans outside was a perfect kick off to spring. 😊 The birch syrup came out perfect. The old timers cherished the syrup because it was the only sweetener available.
Great question they are the most equipped of the animals for winter here. They will be moved under the cows cover area to keep them from wind and snow. If that’s not working there is a room for them in the coop that’s a 16x16 ft insulated building.

Tipper is a full breed pit bull with a genetic deformity making her a midget (no longer a social acceptable term) but she is not a person so we can’t call her a little person!
I don’t no how you will ever kill your cow to eat and your rabbits. We had to stop raising cows and pigs because we couldn’t leave them at the animal sale.
We will never eat the cow. Never she is for milk and she is a part of the family. Our breeders on the rabbits will be pets and when you have 50 driving you crazy like the meat chickens. But like my layers are family we won’t eat them, it’s a hard thing to raise meat, but the more I know of what and how they are doing it commercially I want to do better by the animal.

@@modernhomesteadalaska that's true and videos can be deceiving size wise, i hope you didn't think i was being rude at all because i definitely wasn't hey , i just love your channel and your awesome people, it just looked like there wasn't much room for them to hop and play and do bunny things hehehehe. i hope i didn't offend you because that surely wasn't my intention. xoxox
@@SueBarnes1 not at all! I honestly appreciate somone allowing me to clarify instead of just call me out on something that’s not right. I do honestly welcome and appreciate questions. I appreciate you following along and being part of the channel
May I ask what breed or breeds TIPPER is?! He is adorable. I love his longer body and his chunky pisk. TIA. Nancy and Wally the LH Doxie in OHIO
Tipper is a full breed pit bull with a genetic deformity making her a midget (no longer a social acceptable term) but she is not a person so we can’t call her a little person!
@@modernhomesteadalaska I want that size of pit bull.....where did you get her if you don't mind sharing. I love pit bulls but would prefer her size.
@@crazydoxylady7169 she is a rescue from a ring busted in TX about 10 or do years back.
We always had meat rabbits at my parents house. It is my favorite meat. That is not a rabbit hutch, that is a condo! Great job as always.
Awesome! Thank you! So cute
Have you had birch syrup before ?
No not before but we will be making it again.

I know cute cabin So where is Caleb going to live now?
@@robertas3578 he is trying to buy a home.
That great news 👍
I don’t no how you will ever kill your cow to eat and your rabbits. We had to stop raising cows and pigs because we couldn’t leave them at the animal sale.
We will never eat the cow. Never she is for milk and she is a part of the family. Our breeders on the rabbits will be pets and when you have 50 driving you crazy like the meat chickens. But like my layers are family we won’t eat them, it’s a hard thing to raise meat, but the more I know of what and how they are doing it commercially I want to do better by the animal.
