    Hi Tracy.
    I’m very new to woodworking and thanx to your videos, very excited to start making my own dovetails. I’ve watched several videos prior to finding you, but find your demonstration the most helpful. Thank you very much, and thank you for the recommendation to get e centring jig, I just bought one! Thank you for your time making it easier for newbie’s like me. Regards Didi

    I am a carpentry enthusiast, residing in Colombia, South America. I acquired Chad's template a long time ago but had not had the opportunity to use it. In fact, I feel sorry for Chad because he did everything necessary, even spending his own money, for me to receive his template and I had agreed to give an opinion about it, which I had not done because I had not used it. I used it and it turned out perfect for my dovetails. Thanks Chad and I recommend his template.
    Regards, Luis Alfonso

    not to bust anyone's bubble, but i made my own a long time ago.
    placed a board on top, brought it all the way flush with the front of the pins on the template.
    Placed a piece of plexiglass on top flush with the front , using a 1/4 bit and an 3/4 of guide on the router cut 1/4 grooves the length (12 inches)
    Removed the plexiglass realigned the groves with the pins, took a v-groove bit and made the lines very shallow.
    easy to make.
    Randy

    Tracy, have you considered making one of your centering templates fore a l Leigh” supper jig ? I have one as well as a Porter Cable. The same principle applies . I’ll take the first one you make ?

      @MikeyDonna That would be a question for Chad. He is the inventor and producer of the template. I just helped him get it out there. Use the email address in the video and ask him. I don't know if it would be something he would be willing to tackling not because he would have to buy the jig to make a template for it. It would be up the him. Use that email address and ask him and see what he says.

    Me. Tracy I ordered mine yesterday from chad of course the wife wanted some more drawers for her craft room! Guess it’s perfect timing like I was saying in the other comment I barely use the jig so I’m waiting for delivery now at this point I’m sure it’s going to speed things up I hate trying to get everything aligned so looking forward to seeing it make my life easier! I just ordered Chad's jig! I can't wait to get it. I hope you have explored what it would take to patent this ingenious device. It's always such a pain to use a caliper to center the test piece. This looks easy peasy! Thanks!

    Thanks Chad for making v.2.0 & thanks Tracy for the perfect video to show us how to get the best results from using it. Mine is supposed to be delivered today. I’m looking forward to getting the most out of my PC Dovetail jig, saving time during set up, and especially to increasing accuracy & repeatability! Great job guys! You make a great Team.

    The gap between the line and the pencil line, when the template is used incorrectly (in the aviation industry) we call it ‘parallax error’. That’s the error that comes from reading the needle of an indicator from any angle that is not directly in front of the gauge. At least that’s what is was called 50 years ago when I was flying military aircraft. Everything is on fancy displays nowadays so maybe people have forgotten that term.

    looks like it would work great in the setup you have here where you have an odd number of tines/teeth on the template, but what about when you have an even number? Isn't the centre of the board going to be directly below a tine? How does the template work in this case?

    • @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679
      @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You always mark center of your work piece and line it up with the center or the tines. This will allow for room, evenly on both sides for the outside pins to go or half pins. You should not have the ends or edges of the board falling under a tine. Make some test material the same size as you actual work piece and use Chad's Template as instructed and you shouldn't have any problems. Let us know how it goes

    Hello Tracy. I commented a couple days ago about your video of the porter cable 4216. I just received mine and am practicing with it making dovetail joints. I did just purchase one of Chad's jigs and waiting for it to come. As far as scrap wood, is it ok to use plywood or not a good idea? I have a lot of scrap plywood and a little bit of pine. The one issue I'm having is that my joints don't seem deep enough. How do I remedy this. I am going to check my depth gauge for router bit again thinking that may be it. Thanks in advance. Sorry about all the questions.

    • @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679
      @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Charlie. Yes you can use plywood. If your bit is not deep enough you may have to adjust it slightly. It's hard for me to say when I can't see exactly what your talking about. The depth stops on the side of the template are suppose to be factory set for the correct depth. You are suppose to be able to plunge your router bit down to it and your set. Mine wasn't set correctly from the factory and I just had to mess with it until I hit that sweet spot.

    I like using a 5mm pencil pen to make a center line.

    I wonder if the template will work on the rockler dove tail jig

    To eliminate tearout I always first cut a shallow line moving the router from right to left. No need for tape.

    • @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679
      @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can do that when making halfblinds but you can't do a climb cut with through dovetails
