Great video! Thanks for going into detail on how to set the bit depth of cut. The Porter Cable manual is misleading when it says that the gap from the top of depth stop should be 3/8" from the bottom of the template in all cases. That isn't true for through joints. The depth of the bit for tail cuts should be the thickness of the pin board and vica versa on through joints. Thanks again for the details

I have owned this jig for several years, after several attempts I could not get the pins and tails even close to alignment. So it sat on the shelf for years collecting dust, After watching this tutorial, I finally made my first dovetail box. Thank you for sharing this video. On another note: i will never purchase another Porter Cable product in my lifetime. Worst customer service I have ever experienced,!

I just purchased this jig and watched your unboxing and this video and found them to be very informative. I even took some notes as to how to place boards int jig and such. I also have the same Dewalt router and was wondering if I would be able to use the plunge part of it to do these. You answered that as well. Very good videos, thank you very much.
You are the only vid I’ve seen that correctly states to set your dovetail bit depth to the thickness of your tail boards. I can’t figure out how a factory set depth guide would ever account for board thickness like those other vids suggest. You also are the only one who has advised how to creep up on a tight joint by adjusting your pins. No soup sandwich here, you got that straight and I commend you for no BS!!!

I've been burning up material trying to figure it out, even using other you-tube videos and have gotten absolutely nowhere. You, on the other hand, explained everything thoroughly and actually showed how easy it can be. I hope you have some young kids you are teaching the trade to. You are a VERY good teacher!

I have instructed wood working classes before. I love to teach. Which is why I do TH-cam and maybe one of these years my kids will want to know how to do something and I'll have a video on it and they can let me teach them then.

Really good job, better than many. I wish the Chad Abrams tool was available now, I always have trouble getting things aligned. One possible tip, put the pin board on the tail board and scribe a line, then set your router bit to that line.

Great overview of this jig. I have had one for a while and am just getting around to using it. I like how you went through making a whole box. Most videos only show one corner. Most projects have more than one corner.

Great demo video I liked the tips about setting and checking the depth and the tightness of the joint.. A couple tips I got from Kings Fine Woodworking demo video on this jig especially if you do not use it very often. Take a sharpie and write on the template about where the outside of the stock is to face when cutting the pins and tails. I am sure other people have thought about this I put a piece of tape on the outside of the stock so when I flip it from end to end so I do not make a mistake and cut them the opposite way.. A pencil mark will work also, but a bright piece of tape catch’s a persons eye better.

Question regarding the bits: are you using the Porter bits or do you use other 3rd party bits. Just learning how to use this jig seems to have dulled the bits included. If are using a 3rd party bits please let me know what you’re using to get the sharp cuts. Thanks.
I am still using the bits that came with my jig. They have lasted really well. I will probably order new replacement bits from porter cable since mine has done so well

I have just began to use my porter cable jig and on the advice of another person posting on You tube I installed an additional nut back of the brass one. This allowed me to snub it down after getting the final adjustment and prevented any movement. I used a regular hex nut for this purpose and found it to work well. Again this was not my original idea and it seemed to address a possible concern. Thanks again for your excellent teaching technique. Best regards Gordon

Great directional video!! I have made a few coasters learning this jig. The black stopper brackets i found out the hard way. when doing the small dovetails i had to change the black brackets for the gray ones. The layout is absolutely most important. ty again great video your a pro!

Tracy, I know that this is a little over a year old, but you nailed the instructions. I just got my jig and I followed your video and the first time it was almost perfect. I got it a little loose, but I’m confident I can get them a little tighter next time.
This was a very informative video and you covered many of the items I wasn't sure about. Thanks for sharing your experience with this jig. I own this model, but have never used it yet. One suggestion: The font you use for segment titles is very nice and easy to read. However, using that font for the playlist page is a lot to try and read for the time it's on the screen. Using a smaller and straight font for the playlist page would make it easier to see and read.

Question regarding the bits: are you using the Porter bits or do you use other 3rd party bits. Just learning how to use this jig seems to have dulled the bits included. If are using a 3rd party bits please let me know what you’re using to get the sharp cuts. Thanks.
I am still using the bits that came with my jig. They have lasted really well. I will probably order new replacement bits from porter cable since mine has done so well

Thank you Tracy for a great instructional video! I have just began to use my porter cable jig and on the advice of another person posting on You tube I installed an additional nut back of the brass one. This allowed me to snub it down after getting the final adjustment and prevented any movement. I used a regular hex nut for this purpose and found it to work well. Again this was not my original idea and it seemed to address a possible concern. Thanks again for your excellent teaching technique. Best regards Gordon

Great directional video!! I have made a few coasters learning this jig. The black stopper brackets i found out the hard way. when doing the small dovetails i had to change the black brackets for the gray ones. The layout is absolutely most important. ty again great video your a pro!

Tracy, I know that this is a little over a year old, but you nailed the instructions. I just got my jig and I followed your video and the first time it was almost perfect. I got it a little loose, but I’m confident I can get them a little tighter next time.

This was a very informative video and you covered many of the items I wasn't sure about. Thanks for sharing your experience with this jig. I own this model, but have never used it yet. One suggestion: The font you use for segment titles is very nice and easy to read. However, using that font for the playlist page is a lot to try and read for the time it's on the screen. Using a smaller and straight font for the playlist page would make it easier to see and read.

Thanks Tracy. You have helped me make up my mind on which dovetail jig to get. It was between the Rockler and the Porter Cable. The Porter Cable is the winner. I have seen several different model numbers though. Am I correct that this is the 4612?

Fantastic tutorial! What is the tickest that your lumber can be for through dovetails with that jig?
Thank you. You can only cut what the bit will reach. And you have the thickness of the template to account for too. Probably 3/4 at most
