My Journey to Being Initiated in the Lukumi Orisha Tradition

  • On Sunday August 1, 2021 I was honored to have the opportunity to speak in front of a group of Black Lukumi elders, who are mostly from New York City. Although I will be ten years in Ocha next year, I still consider myself a baby in the tradition, so this was a major honor for me. Thank you again to my godparents Iya Asabi Agongoloju and Baba Willie Ilari Oba Ramos, for paving the road before me.
During this talk I spoke about my experience discovering the Lukumi tradition, being marked as a child of a rare Orisha (I am omo Dada), and finding my relationship to God along a unmarked road that has been defined by the silences.
I hope that you gain something useful from what I share here. Please feel free to ask questions in the comments and I will do my best to answer (when/if appropriate!).
    Thank you! 🙏🏿

There is NO way I came across this by chance. I had a whole argument with my ancestors last night about the very things she speaks of...just upset and not feeling heard... feeling like I was lacking community and so much.. just really tired. She articulated so much of how I felt and hit on EVERY SINGLE THING....I love this so much. I needed this.

I love how emotional she still gets about her initiation and journey. 💞💞 Beautiful.

Nothing is by chance, I came across this message at the exact moment it was needed. As someone who just received their hand. This is/was me… what do I have to offer. My analytical mind is working overtime, but my soul is like you have what you need and you are enough. Thank you thank you Iyas for sharing this and for the blessings you didn’t know you were giving. I hope 100 fold are the blessings returned to both of you.

@Trinity M That is incorrect Spiritual system has always had balance of men balance of male and female energy it's a reason for that! The term that Doesn't exist in the spiritual system Please provide information where you can pinpoint what you're saying it has nothing to do with personal beliefs and Feelings never has

your fathers and grandfathers were christians...and you theink the christian religion is a "white" invented religion, (wrong)and you want to rebel against it and go "back to your roots" or so they say. Not all africans were voodooist or into the Yoruba religion of WEST Africa. youll do anything to rebel against what you think is white or "slavemaster" religion.... its a shame
