Oddly you felt the vietnam period....the songs lyrical content is based upon the West point academies famous saying The code adopted was based largely on West Point's Honor Code, but was modified slightly to its current wording:" We will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does." In 1984, the Cadet Wing voted to add an "Honor Oath", which was to be taken by all cadets. Maynard was the head of his class
🤘🤘🤘Along for the journey brother. Enjoy. Also what you said about MJKs voice, that's why many people follow his other bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Please consider their music after Tool
Really excited to see you take this journey. I love Tool, but to be honest, I don’t even listen to the Undertow album anymore. That just speaks to the power of the rest of their discography
Every word and sound were put there for a reason. MJK’s lyrics are so unique, powerful, and really makes you think about yourself and human nature. 🤘🏻🌀
I first heard this band at 16 yrs old and 32 years later, they’re just as relevant in my life. Enjoy the rabbit hole and react/enjoy them how you want not how the comments want. This band can legitimately open your eyes. Enjoy it!!
I can’t tell you how much you will enjoy the journey if you stick with this band. Please do… no other band triggers so much emotion and awe for me. As one reactor stated “how can this be so soft and so hard all at once”.
I have a hard time putting a pin Maynard’s voice too. Most of the time it has an effortless way about it. I think that’s what makes it sound familiar. Then other tracks show off his range, power, and rage… and beauty. Stunning. Subbed for the journey!
Technically TOOL has a 30minute LP called Opiate that they put out before Undertow. Tracks: Sweat, Hush, part of me, cold and ugly, jerk off and Opiate. All great tracks…. Especially Hush
I will be riding on this tool journey with you. Best band you’ll experience
here to watch the journey. thanks
There's also an EP from 1992 titled "Opiate".
Real Raw Tool, their beginning and so damn good!

They released an EP, Opiate, in '92. But I won't hold you to starting over :)
Fantastic reaction, Al! Looking forward to everything your TOOL box can hold.

I only listen to Undertow in this exact instance. When someone else is listening for the first time. Haha 😂

Greatest band ever! They do not have a bad song.
