In this video I want to share with you the story of how I got to this point and what my next plans in relation to this goal are.
What’s the most number of countries, someone has been to.
That’s when I found this guy. Sal Lavallo. There were many news articles about him at the time, he finished his goal to visit every country in the world.
And I couldn’t believe it. Someone has actually visited literally every country. And he wasn’t even the first or one of the first people to do it.
So that’s when my research started: How many countries are there? How long does it take to visit every country? How much does it cost?
So in the end of 2017, 16 year old Philipp, who had been to 17 countries, decided that he would try it. I wanted to go to as many countries as possible, possibly even every country in the world.
The 17 countries I had visited until then were Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, Turkey, the United States, Denmark, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and the Bahamas.
In 2018 I wanted to visit as many new countries as possible with the limited time and money that I had.
I went on a one-week-cruise where I could add Estonia, Russia, Finland and Sweden to my list. And to celebrate our graduation, me and a friend of mine went on an Interrail trip, where I could add Portugal, Monaco, Ireland and Norway to the list too.
I went to California with my girlfriend in 2019 and we crossed the border to Tijuana, Mexico. I went to Vienna and crossed over to Slovakia and Hungary. I did another Interrail trip to Italy to visit San Marino and the Vatican, then I flew up to Prague to visit the Czech republic and Poland. And I also went on a roadtrip all the way through France, just to finally visit Andorra which was the only country that I was missing in western Europe.
I went to Bulgaria and did a roadtrip through Iceland. And I finally went to Brazil for the first time in 2020.
By the end of 2021, I had visited 37 countries.
In all of the Americas, I’d been to Canada, the US, the Bahamas, Mexico and Brazil.
So after spending a lot of time on Google Maps and talking with a few friends, I booked a flight to Chile, country number 38. After visiting the beautiful cities of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar and of course the capital of Santiago I went to Argentina to see Buenos Aires and fly a trike for the first time, then Uruguay, super peaceful country, then Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. Then I flew to Santo Domingo and took a bus from the vacation paradise of the Dominican Republic to Haiti, the other side of the Island, which is by far the poorest country in the western hemisphere. After that we went to Venezuela which is a beautiful country, and after me going to Panama, the first really big adventure of 2022 was over.
I went to Malta with another friend of mine to celebrate his very first flight of his life, and my milestone of 50 countries.
I had almost finished South America. The only parts left on the continent were Guyana, Suriname and French Guyana. However French Guyana, being an oversee territory of France, was not to be counted for this challenge.
It was the end of April 2022. I had been to 50 countries. I knew I had around three weeks in the end of may and beginning of June to travel and I had eight countries left in the Americas: Guyana and Suriname in South America. And Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Belize in Central America. I found a connection from Germany to Panama for $400 round trip. If that’s not a sign from the universe, I don’t know either.
I looked for buses to all the countries in between and a flight back from El Salvador to Panama and a couple of minutes later the next adventure was booked and four new countries were ticked off the list.
So far, in 2022 I visited 22 countries, of which 17 I visited for the first time.
So here’s the plan of what you can expect on my daily Instagram stories and other channels in the next six months:
For this month, I’ve already booked a trip to Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania.
In August, I want to spend some time in the Middle East. I was thinking about going to Lebanon and Syria with a friend from Brazil, and also another friend really wants to show me Tel Aviv in Israel. And because it’s close I’d combine that visit with Palestine and Jordan.
If this doesn’t work out as planned, I might also go to Latvia and Lithuania in August.
In September or October I would like to do a trip through Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE and Egypt.
And in November or December I want to finish the Americas mainland with two trips, one to Belize and Guatemala and the other one to Guyana and Suriname.

      Thank you very much!
I would love to tell you a secret plan that makes it super easy to travel full time. But the truth is that I’ve had a very flexible job I could mostly work remotely (I was a Social Media Manager for a Real Estate Agency) and when I didn’t have to be in the office I just traveled. That’s it 😅
