Hey, thanks for this review:) I use the Vicair Vector. I had problems with my first Vicair going flat but they have now completely redesigned the air cells and they seem a lot better. Have had mine for well over a year and I don't think one single air cell has deflated. I previously used the Invcare Flotec Xtra which is very similar to the Jay2 (solid foam with a layer of compartmentalized thick gel) I have found gel cushions like this are slightly more comfortable that air filled cushions in terms of perceived comfort but air filled cushions are better for pressure relief. I unfortunately got pressure damage with the gel cushion but the Vicair has been great. I think the gel is able to 'bottom out' without you noticing. My advice would be if you are very high risk for skin breakdown - go for the Vicair. I think the Vicair Vector is exceptionally good at providing postural stability also. However, if pressure is not such a big issue for you and you want comfort - go for the Jay2
FYI, the otter covers that come with those cushions are designed for those of us that are incontinent, so if her diapers were to leak no one would really notice that we have an accident. The cushion simply absorbs the leakage and prevents it from Rolling to the floor.
How about substituting diy oobleck stress balls for those air cushions? Oobleck is cornstarch and water put into balloons. You double balloon it by cutting off the top of the second heavy duty balloon.
I recently purchased the Vicair vector X. Before purchasing i contacted the Comfort company (maker of Vicair in the US) because of your review and they told me that if any of their cushions go flat within the first year it would be covered by warranty. This should not happen after just 2 months... At any rate, in doing loads of research on various cushions i decided on the VectorX.
I'm in the midst of researching cushions now, and I've stumbled across the Vicair air cushions and of course the product videos gush about them, but this is the first review that says (1) they aren't as comfortable as foam/gel, (2) it went flat on her (that's very concerning), and (3) she recommends it as a backup. For $300-$400, I thought this would be the best thing on the market. I guess I need to spend time in a mobility shop and test some out. For 15 years now I've used Pride Synergy cushions (and 2 of them have lasted all that time), but after a recent pressure sore I've thought about moving to air cushions. They're more expensive and (I thought) would last. I guess it depends. How is yours so far?
It really is misleading and to top it off i purchased from an online distributor that wouldnt accept a return. I literally used it for 6 hours and that's it. I spent $381.:(
A great cushion I've found and got sent to the uk from the states is the supracor stimulite slimline xs because I've short arms had to get the slimline as the standard made it impossible to push as I was too high
Not sure if you’ll see this but I’m wondering what cushion you’re using now. I am replacing a deep Jay 2 and looking at the Vicair (they’re now machine washable)
Butt gel..hehe...... Seriously, did the little pillows themselves go flat? Did the cover stretch out? Hmmmm. I was thinking of getting one instead of a roho, but now I don't know.
Squishy butt jell! Lol out of curiosity, I am going to be getting a wheelchair soon (fingers crossed everything falls in place) how do you deal with sweat on your cushion? Is there a easy way to dry it quick or do you just deal with it? Also how often do you wash the covers of at all?
What type of fabric did you use for your handmade cover? I want to make one for ming but can't find much about fabric. I have a Vicair somethingorother and the leg sweat is awful in the summer.

I recently got the vicair vector x and am completely disappointed! Dont waste your money.
Hmmm, thanks for that. I was heavily considering it. Looks like their aggressive (and very positive) marketing is misleading.
