I have just realize because I am slow. All the TH-camrs complaining about overprinting and value is going down are store owners and collectors. Most of us don't have the money to collect in a meaningful level and just enjoy the game, can careless and prefer cards to be cheaper.
Good points, but I'm only gonna do Pokemon when it comes TCG's/CCG's. Used to be into Funkos, but I got out of it when the fakes started being made. My love for the items made me buy good stuff and I wouldn't have the same love for other things. So I wouldn't make the same good buys or learn enough to understand the related market. Only downfall with buying stuff you love is that it's so much harder to sell even if you are 10x. Specially if you have more limited funds and didn't buy multiples of the same item. Got to make choices and money I spend on say Magic the Goodering I can't spend on Pokemon anymore. Diversifaction I suppose is in the other things I own
Rudy I am still holding my bags and planning to add to them over time. I might want to sell out to you in like 10 or 15 years. That is one problem as well as storage. Right now I am about 3 or 4 years into this and things are really piling up. It makes me think that stocks are just a better way for most people to go. I love hording carboard, but now sitting on 26 set/booster boxes of Magic, 16 flesh and blood boosters, 14 force of will boosters and almost 30 commander decks, it makes me nervous to add more. Also before really taking count I thought I had like maybe 2,000-2,400 in sealed product.
My biggest regret when it comes to TCG flipping was to have missed the 40k commander sets. I just started to pick up MTG right at that time (because of these decks, since I'm also a 40k fan), and I barely managed to get a 4 pack at 300 bucks for my own use. If I was there for the announcement of that thing, I would have bought as much as possible of these while they were at their preorder price.
That is epic. I can say that I've just been steadily grabbing a mix of everything and that was a nice little boon to cancel out the smoke show that has been the short-term results of the last year. Just think of it this way, you're here now and the next 40K is out there one of these times, as is the next Baulder's Gate. The math of high variance assets with a risk of ruin of less than zero is pretty awesome. It is going to be tough to be upset by much of this in 5-10 years, and I do think that that's the lesson, along with doing some (naive, for me) forecasting work on these products and keeping an eye out for what is releasing, when, why, and how the prices move. It is another fun wrinkle in the hobby of CCGs for sure. If 14 year old me knew what was happening with my CCG collections now, he would be like brooooo what? 😂

Final Fantasy is 7 years old now, the original japanese only chapters series came out in 2011. The chapters boxes have gone up a ridiculous amount the last few years if you can find them and some of the opus series are performing really well
Where is it played? I remember this getting less table time than cardfight, even after people discovered the latter boosters were being easily weighed on a jeweler scale and the whole price bottomed. FfVii stuff ended up being sold at a loss at my old local.

As you're saying everyone works 40 hours... I'm looking at my 8 hour work day in the rear view mirror. It's almost 11pm, I have to wake up in 6 hours. I'm sitting here living the cardboard life, packaging up cards to send out in the morning. I might not be the smartest for selling all my $2 cards, but I'm outworking everyone I know.
I don't like the collector box example because we don't have a ton of history with collector boxes. They also aren't holding up as good, like with CL2 example, as compared to draft. So long as they are just reprinting and adding 8 billion variations of every card, how do we know collector boxes are going to perform like booster boxes of the past. Incidentally this is why I'm more bullish on draft boxes than set boxes long term. At least you can play with draft boxes.
I imagine collection and set boxes to be higher variance and lesser known returns of the same sets. So if you have maybe $1k for a set, seems like 4 draft, 2 set, 1 collector could be nice. Trying to predict what's happening at buy time doesn't seem that helpful, but using what we know to estimate longer term variance and EV helps with diversification.

Do you think the Financial markets interpretation of the Fed being close to the end of raising rates and inflation coming down will help the CCG markets? Seems like financial long duration risk assets are making a big come back.
Short-term, I imagine that there will be increased spending and some of it will flow back into CCGs. Longer-term, IDK, but historically, the initial wave(s) of increased spending creates a need for more Fed tweaking at some point. I doubt that any of it will affect CCGs significantly and over time though, which is really the name of the game. At this point, I think Hasbro is just trying to figure out how to make profitable situations and that's going to require some conservation on their end. Maybe they short a run and somehow people are also more liquid after that shorter run and hit the next one hard, for example. It's going to be noisy and, IMO, not worth considering vs just going dollar cost averaging style and diversifying, all that fun stuff.
Rudy this is an awful story but I think we can all learn from it. There was a pep rally at my high school when I was a kid at the very last period of the day so I skipped but when I found out what happened at the pep rally there was a mascot of our team, and there is a mascot of another team, and one of the kids from the football team. One of the guys was really stupid, and he decided to charge at the mascot of the other schools team And he knocked the mascot to the ground like a bull. When the mascot fell to the ground the head of the mascot fell off and it was revealed the person inside the mascot outfit was a teenage girl and it turns out the football player ended up breaking her collarbone. …..horsing around can lead to tremendous regret son. I think the football player only ended up with a one week suspension for breaking a girls collarbone. It really shows the punishment never fits the crime.

One of the guys was really stupid, and he decided to charge at the mascot of the other schools team And he knocked the mascot to the ground like a bull. When the mascot fell to the ground the head of the mascot fell off and it was revealed the person inside the mascot outfit was a teenage girl and it turns out the football player ended up breaking her collarbone. …..horsing around can lead to tremendous regret son. I think the football player only ended up with a one week suspension for breaking a girls collarbone. It really shows the punishment never fits the crime.
