Winter West Highland Way | Struggling Against Severe Weather.

- West Highland Way during this winter turned out to be more extreme than we had anticipated. It was still however a great hiking and camping experience even with the wild amounts of rain and snow.
The West Highland Way runs for 96 miles from Milngavie to Fort William, travelling through some of the most stunning landscapes in Scotland. It passes alongside lochs and rivers, travels through forest and moorlands, explores countless historical sites, and encompasses mountains of all scales, including Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK.

I love the West Highland Way I worked along there doing the paths and fencing in the 80s so I hope they have lasted well.

watching from the sweltering summer heat of Australia. I can't imagine doing this walk in winter, it was bad enough the year I did it in a shoulder season.
I did it the same week you did it 2 years ago! I remember how long those first two days were, even in perfect dry conditions… I can imagine how the snow and ice would seriously effect the progress. You guys must have been completely burst at the end of those days. Your boots wouldn’t have dried.. right decision to bail!

Good call on getting the train back earlier. Looked brutal walking and being wet all the time is a recipe for disaster. Nice vid and the first time I've seen the route in this sort of weather.

I stayed at the campsite in August and it was definitely closing. From what I understand, the people running it have secured new terms but won't be running it themselves in 2023. Nice to see you and Murray again, hope you have a great festive break and looking forward to seeing you next year. Andy

Pity it didn't quite work out, but looked pretty grim to be honest. On the plus side, promising to hear Beinglas should be open again next year, would be a huge loss for the WHW. Plus that legendary teleporter there, that takes you to Glencoe. 🤭

Fantastic video Ray, nice to see yourself and Murray out and about together again. Hope Beinn Glass campsite will be open for the 2023 season as that’s one of my planned stops on the WHW next year.

Great wee film Ray, i have only ever done this once many years ago and the weather was a lot more compliant than that. You got much further than i would of as it was certainly getting wild and unpleasent, i think you made the right choice to abort.

Happy New Year Ray. Can I suggest that you try walking the Rob Roy Way from Drymen to Crianlarich instead of the Loch Lomond path.

l guess the advantage of doing the walk in winter is theres no crowds as no one else would be insane enough to do the walk in winter

i have this tent, but i m surprised u didnt chose smth more wind stable.. or helm is good enough in your opinion?
Lots of other wildcamping youtubers have used it in bad weather and rave about it. Going test further and give my own opinion. Atb

Whats your thought on the tent ray?
Seems ok if a little bit cramped and understand why many people go for the two person version. This is if you use a thick 9cm sleeping mat like I did. As a person of 5' 10" height I am just touching the ends of the inner tent. However easy to setup and seems very stable. Little bit more teting required though. Atb
