  • I've found myself becoming slightly addicted to fishing for bass from the SIB this year, partly because I have found great success in targeting them with lures along shallow reefs in the waters of the west. In this video I show off my approach and rewards.
    I'm forever grateful for the support I receive on this channel which has grown rather quickly the past few months. Please keep it up and In return I will endeavour to post regularly with improved production quality!
    Check out the Facebook and Instagram page for regular updates on my fishy activities.
    Cheers all

    Just found your channel but have really enjoyed binge watching all the videos to date. The way you come across makes a big difference to a lot of other channels I’ve seen. Friendly and informative. Great stuff!

    Great video, as is the norm!
    Almost makes me wanna sell my kayak and buy a SIB!
    Still learning my watercraft, and the one thing I do love about the yak, you are so close to the water, so in touch with the environment. Would love the extra range the SIB gives you, though.
    Tight lines, dude!

    Thanks Oban, great vid and some quality size bass, good set up on your SIB, I use the honwave 4 metre alloy floor, bit heavy to launch on your own but very stable in the rough, all the best, Mitch 👍

    Really appreciate the time you took to reply ...it may well have saved my life...i was so desperate to try to find your strcutural spots ...i seem to watse all my fishing time trying to find rocks that are not too far out and give up ...fishing over nothing and catching ...nothing ...time away from family work etc is so short i then kick myslf for wasted time ...i will take your advice and as it was my first trip out in her ,....she is small 3.4 m rib with aluminium bottom ...i really want to go out from sennen one day too as i can see rocks there nearby ....a friend of mine does brysons !..in kayak ...i just not got his guts or his strength or experience ....i keep thinking of trying the manacles area but warned off that too ...so unsure ...there must be somewhere thats relatively safe ...anyway keep going its fun to watch fish caught esp when i dont get the experience !

    Oban that is exactly the same settup I've been using for the last year off the kayak, nebula SP and slammer. Absolute beast of a rod, very sensitive but can handle very big fish must say does get a bit heavy in the hand after jigging all day.

    • @obanonthewater7796
      @obanonthewater7796  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm in love with the neb SP. Seriously considering one of the new slammers in 2500 size for a slightly lighter outfit. Glad I went for the 8ft version as it sends a hard plastic a fair distance to.

    Good stuff! Love the look of that piece of water!
    Just one thing, I wonder if your method of ‘reviving’ fish before you return them is actually harmful! To ‘breath’ the fish’s mouth needs to be completely under the water, and it needs to be able to open and close its mouth, which you prevent by holding it by the jaw. Your method might work if you were under way, forcing water through the fish’s gills. Just a thought.
    Tight lines.

    Nice video Oban, so you went for the SP rod in the end! Looks nice ;) Also did you get the cv or the sv for the garmin? I got the sv but haven't used the side view much really. Cracking fish finder though I could literally see the structure of the wrecl/boat on the seabed the other day on clear view.

    • @obanonthewater7796
      @obanonthewater7796  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm in love with the neb sp, feels like it's made for the fishing I do just hope it lasts! The striker 5 is the vivid which I think means clearvu. I don't think they do a side scan model. I'll be honest with you, I haven't really used the clearvu. I'm so used to traditional sonar that's what was working best for me

    Your a natural with the camera too v good thanks
    Do you have a critical way to decide if it’s safe to go out on north coast
    Are currents waves worse on north coast
    Cheers

    • @obanonthewater7796
      @obanonthewater7796  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Robert. The North Coast requires settled conditions, far too many times I've gone out decided its too lumpy and headed back again. You will generally get larger swell on the North Coast vs South and the only way to know if it is possible is to keep a close eye on the forecast and looked for a spell of low winds.

    Hi Oban
    Gues your to busy but watching you leave at Hayle ...I want to try it but keep letting fear stop me
    Isn't the sandbar a real problem
    How do you know when to leave and get back by
    And ...sorry so many questions
    It's just I live in pz
    And need to find some structure that's accessible by my little rib
    And safe ...or no fun if scared out of my head
    Cheers for all your encouragement to beginners

    • @obanonthewater7796
      @obanonthewater7796  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rob, it's best to observe how the experienced commercial boats tackle the entrance to Hayle Harbour. Only attempt it in flat seas. Best to get used to your RIB in the shelter of an estuary before you venture far from land. Luckily for you there's the fal and Helford nearby so take your time familiarising yourself there before considering trickier launches such as Hayle.

    Hi mate I am very new to bass fishing but infact I did get lucky the other day hooked cracking bass it’s doing my head in as I did not have scales to weight it.. with it being my first one I have ever caught it was identical to the nice one you caught after the netted one… what sort of size would and weight would you say that was roughly to put my mind at ease 😂

    How many psi you inflating your air deck?

  • @SilasMoleCatcher
    @SilasMoleCatcher 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    great fish!
    Do you tether yourself to the boat when fishing alone?
    If you fell overboard in windy conditions, would you be able to swim and catch up with your boat with the life-vest activated?

    • @obanonthewater7796
      @obanonthewater7796  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I don't tether myself as I believe this would create more issues than solve! I'm quite a strong swimmer and if I were to fall overboard my first reaction would be to remove the inflated life jacket and make every effort to reenter the SIB.

  • @benhben
    @benhben 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love your videos. Do you trailer the boat or inflate each time. I use a Honwave T38 and inflate each time. I dont fancy trailering but there's very little room in the car once all packed and inflating deflating and packing up takes a good hour or so combined. Can feel like a ball ache at times.

    • @ENGDyna
      @ENGDyna 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depending on where you launch etc, setting a sib up shouldn't take more than 15mins, 20 tops. Same with deflating the sib, should be a little quicker. T38's a heavy lump but with good wheels it's no biggie. Practice setting up faster in the garden.

    • @obanonthewater7796
      @obanonthewater7796  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Ben, I don't trailer I usually inflate each time which doesn't take long at all. If I'm not travelling far I stick the SIB on my rhino roof rack. The ladder roller makes it easy to load single handedly

      For my use air deck as I'm setting up and launching solo most the time so I appreciate the weight savings. Solid deck does provide a better fishing platform though.
