It's ok to appear faster since 99% of driving is done on public roads where you shouldn't be hauling ass anyway. Let the "ricer" do what he wants, hes probably not going to the track anyway.
My car is a rice car. It's not that I don't appreciate performance, it's more that my car is a daily driver. I'm not racing, so performance takes a back seat to looks and fun features. I drive an '06 Mazda3 Sport GT. Nope, not even a Speed3. Wish I had sprung for that, but at the time the cost was 10k more than my model, so I didn't. My mods: Blacked out badges and wheels (plasti-dip for life) K&N Cold Air Intake Corksport Cat-back exhaust Corksport Lowering suspension 2000w 2.1 Alpine Type R audio system It's loud, not very fast, looks sweet, and is fun as fuck to drive. I have no shame whatsoever.
Pro drifters, but might crash quite often, while ricers are slow and don't push themselves and their cars to the limits so much. Istead they ride around and hang out with shitty music.
A D I ricers can't afford the under the hood mods... So we start out with the fun, cheaper parts, Aka the non performance enhancing parts which of course distinguishes a ricer
I believe a ricer is an obnoxious, arrogant piece of shit that thinks his car is all that. So what if you wanna make your car look something other than stock. Maybe you just wanna cruise around in it. Not everyone wants to race. I have 99 Civic. And I paid 500$ for it and I been building it up to what I want it to be. And not everyone has money either so you pieces of shits saying that ricers are the ones that don’t wanna spend money on high performance parts? Heck I want my car to look a little cool, and perform well.? So what. You can’t build a good car overnight.
And most of you kids with a really nice tuner, either had daddy give it to you, or buy all the parts for you. Yeah it’s nice to have a professional mechanic do it all for you but what’s wrong with learning to do it yourself? I don’t feel like spending a fortune on professional mechanics working on my car. I’d like to learn for myself lol.
I think ricers are a bad mix between Tuners and Car show moders, cool bodykits, and well made audio systems are added to cars to take them to car shows, they don't expect cars to be fast, just to look cool or sound cool. On the other hand as you said, tuners are all about making cars go faster. Ricers are a group of people who can't do either, cars try to look cool and try to go fast, achieving none. I think you should make a video about that.
agreed. the rover's 555 livery was actually kinda cool in the fact that someone just wanted a daily driver to look like the Impreza rally car. if it's a daily that you don't care about, why not have fun doing that? it becomes a problem when one says his/her car is better performing with non-performance enhancing mods
I think these are absolutes. Many ricers "would like" to make their car faster. It´s just they have limited money and rather invest into optical features rather than perfomance features. "tuners" on the other hand rather invest into performance than optical features... BUT everyone who says they dont care about looks ist lying to himself.
Yeah, like myself who can only do so much because his car is financed, so some people are only limited to minimal optical improvements, like LEDs or whatever.
I'm broke aswell but i wont do anything visual to my car as long as it needs to be work'd or repaired mechanically. Little improvements here and there that car is good to drive in every "normal day" situations. After that i maybe tint rear window, maybe....
I disagree on the big wings. Big wings can benefit you drastically in a race car but they arent cheap, thats why you dont see them on too many entry level tuner cars. The reason you do see them on ricer cars is because the ones ricers buy are cheap and useless. If you look at actual race cars though, you will be hard pressed to find a car without a fairly large wing on the back. Everything just has to be done effectively.
To be honest, cars would be a bit bland if every car was a tuner car. They all look mostly the same and monotonous. Well what is wrong with that dodge ram in the beginning. It may not be fast but it looks unique
I saw it in Orlando. It sits parked outside the hulk roller coaster as an amusement. It looks really dumb up close. On an up note the coaster is pretty tight.
i think you got it wrong, the way to become a ricer is by buying a honda civic, even if you dont rice it youre automatically seen as a ricer by alot of uneducated car people
Well if it's a 90s Honda I see you as driving a shitbox. That's all. And with any Honda shitbox you need to put the 80 ebay fartcan. It's a 25 second 75hp car that burns oil like no tomorrow.
@Bob Burk vintage lol. Well... I suppose. I mean if you like spending money on something where you will lose 70-80% of what you spend. If you like it and want add-ons that don't add a cent to the value, have at it.
What's the point if your car is fast but it looks slow? Ricing out a car is not good at all but adding a nice spoiler and a good looking widebody doesn't mean it's riced out! Also I hate for Hondas getting so hate as ricers! It's the fault of the owners who's ricing it , not the car's! Poor Honda😢
@Nol Valdez my point was that widebody's original purpose was drifting, the vid couldnt see the point of widebody and listed it as "useless aero", but the makers of the vid obviously never saw a drift car.
If you have a large wing, that doesn’t automatically make you a ricer. I have a large wing on my EVO, but it’s actually functional. If you have a large wing that isn’t functional, then you’re a ricer.
if u were really a car guy u would've said spoiler not wing. EDIT: Turns out a spoiler and a wing are 2 different things and he was talking about a wing :P
Project_Evo Evos & Sunbies usually comes with a big wing factory made, but when it comes to Hondas that don't come with rear spoilers,Ricers usually puts big wings for daily driven which doesn't make sense to me,I have a EG hatch so I put a EG6 rear spoiler and a front lip just to keep it clean and simple, another thing these Ricers do is put a deep dish wheel with stretched out tires which looks ungly as anything.
Also hip hop music provides additional torque gains of roughly 15-25 ft lbs. Depending on the artist and bass levels. Artists such as they call Lil pump or being a beilieber playing a song like YUM will produce no gains.
I keep trying to pass it off as a joke, ik there are people who have the money to make cars like that as a joke at their local meet, but ive also seen people who were serious about that. Who knows.
@@dontquestionmyprofilepictu7924 you're a fucking douche. You wouldn't spend your money the way he does, so that means he's wasting money? Maybe he just doesnt give a fuck what douchebags like you think?
I don’t consider ricers as every person who likes to design their car rather than have pure performance, I consider that show cars. Ricers are those who mod completely useless mods that are all around bad, as making a car fast and look good is extremely expensive. Show cars are cars built to show off, but don’t overdo the mods. Ricers put whatever they can get their hands on to look somewhat intimidating even though it does the complete opposite.
I saw a Mitsubishi 3000gt with Ferrari badges and a steering wheel, also painted red and with carbon tape. The worst thing is that most people would probably believe it.
What do you yall expect? People judge if they see something that's not ordinary. And most ricers are known to capture the attention of others so it's not that hard for an individual to point out about it. Sorry if things don't go your way cuz the world doesn't revolves around you
Instead of calling this Differences Between, it may be a bit more honest to call it 6 Things I Don't Like About Japanese Car Culture. With respect to modifying Japanese import cars to improve performance I agree, it's pretty easy to define "Tuner" as form driven by function. It's what American Hot Rod guys were doing 70 years ago, and Europeans were doing over a 100 years ago. "If it doesn't make the car go faster, it doesn't go on the car." The only difference being non-domestic cars get the "other" classification of Tuner. That being said, with car culture like Bosozoku, Onikyan, Dekotora, Itasha, etc, Japan sets the gold standard for form over function, but I sure as hell wouldn't identify that form of expression as Ricers. I think it's a mistake to judge that culture through our narrow Western prism. Although mass media and the internet are an incredibly powerful homogenizing force on culture, I don't think the term "Ricers" means the same thing for everyone just yet. Generationally speaking, in the 70s the word "Ricer" was still a derogatory term, but it was directed at anyone who modified and raced Japanese cars. I've been tuning and racing Japanese motorcycles and car's in California for over 40 years, and back then my 2stroke RD400 was a Rice Rocket, and I was called a Ricer for wrenching on super high strung Datsun 510s instead of Mustangs and Camaros. Eventually the term Tuner somewhat legitimized Japanese performance work, and the term Ricer shifted over to the poorly executed "all show and no go" fart can crowd. Personally, I think it's a shame that kids who genuinely appreciate Japanese car culture, and are starting to emulate that here in the West, are being painted with a broad brush as miss guided morons who don't understand cars. Look a little deeper and you'll find those crazy over the top stylized cars in Japan are all about rebellion against an oppressively conformist society. For some people, car's are about expression, and not competition. Not my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate it.
James: Though undeserved, thanks for the recognition. It pisses me off when someone so ill equipped thinks because they have 100K subscribers it gives them ample authority to pirate another country's cultural slang. "Ricers and Tuners" are American terms, not British, so what makes them think they have the credibility to define stuff they've only seen in Fast and Furious? According to Viral Vehicles all car owners are and have always been divided into two basic categories... *What The Fungus?* Egocentricity and arrogance has always been a prominent feature in European car culture, but holy carp, this video is straight up ignorance. Obviously no one on their writing staff has ever been to a low rider show, used a car as simple transportation, or understands a single bloody thing about Japanese, or American car culture. Viral Vehicles is in no position to speak intelligently on this subject, and the sad thing is, it's morons like these guys who redefine and destroy real culture to get attention on the internet. Sod off you wankers!
Fucking legend. lol Really well put "essay" man. Sums up my thoughts about modded car culture really well. It was odd realizing a while back how the Japanese build a car that makes themselves happy, while over here we seem to build a car to fit in with a group, to make OTHERS happy.
@Jake Watson lol he's defending them dude. I agree calling people ricers is pretty immature. I don't know why people hate them. They're just doing what they want to do and actually tuning a car is WAY more expensive than just making one look cool. And who doesn't want a cool car?
@@matthewriffle8959 Yes agreed. A lot of car guys are immature. I mean why do they love calling people ricers just because they modded their car with lower performance? I've seen people saying like: 'I feel sorry for people who owns and mod a v6 or ecoboost mustang' or 'Ew a V6, thats disgusting!'. I mean whats the matter with people owning a lower spec mustang? Like do you think everybody has the ability to afford a v8? A lot of the times people dont care much about their car performance, they just want their car to look good, and that makes them happy. I mean whats so great even if you own a v8? Honestly, even if next time I get to own a v6 or ecoboost mustang, Im actually afraid to tell it to my car community, because I would expect getting humilated for not owning a v8, and I would also get called a ricer if I modify it. And yeah, tuning a car is very expensive. So why would I invest so much money on a car when I could just spend it more on more useful stuff in my life.
R.I.C.E actually stands for Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement. There's really nothing wrong with changing the appearance of your car to make it yours and unique. Just don't over-do it and ruin the look. Also, don't be an arsehole (unlike the narrator) to other car people who enjoy doing what they like to their car.
NFS champion coulson That’s completely false I can tell you if you want your car to corner better then you’re going to need downforce in the back to keep your back wheels from going out
@@1stappalachianmountainbrig193 it depends on how quick the car is the purpose of downforce is to keep the car smack on the ground whilst taking corners at high speeds to make sure the car has maximum traction and considering most front wheel drive cars are slow anyways having a wing on let's say a Corsa is only going to slow the car down and increase drag because a Corsa doesn't need any downforce at all you will only be considered as a ricer. So I'm not false at all u just didn't read my comment properly
My first mod on my first car was a Flowmaster 40 Series with an exhaust tip I could fit my whole foot in. In my defense it was bought while the first Fast and the Furious was still considered the coolest movie, but I still cringe a bit thinking about my boy-racer high school days. At least I didn't put any stickers on it: NOS BREMBO TOYO GOODYEAR ALPINE ugh.
Some ricers are car guys but can’t afford real mods or just like the rice look probably have red tinted goggles living when fast and furious and need for speed underground made everyone a ricer
Giancarlo C I’m fixing my 99 Accord coupe, I wanna put a few things on it for performance and at least a new speaker system at the most for it in terms of non useful shit
I saw one '06 Honda Civic Type R people were calling it a "ricer" but it was a tuner and looked good and sounded good so he owner was being teased by a "16 Shelby owner they were ONLEY teenagers so they were street racing the Honda crushed the poor ford this proved that all Hondas are not ricers #killthehondaricer
I respect ppl with hondas more than regular tuners bc they get so much hate for owning a civic, like it doesn't matter what it looks like, it matters what's under the hood and then judge, clear case of don't judge a book by its cover
Type R honda's are beast. It is just sad when regular hondas put type R stickers, or change the badge with a red honda symbol like the ones on type R's.
The MLG Meme Master Owning a Civic isn’t rice, a well tuned Civic with enough boost will smoke any V8 lol. Goes for most any 4 or 6 cylinder Japanese car. I’ll take a SR-20 vs V8 or RB25-26, or 2JZ against an LS or a Rotary Vs V8 🤙🏻
I love reading stories like this because you ricers always claim "I smoked this car and that car" but in the streets of Cali I've smoked all you ricer fart cans.
I am an American muscle guy, who will probably end up with a car about as fast and dangerous and the dodge challenger demon, though getting the sound just right will be hard
I think there's also a 3rd tier that is closer to tuner than ricer: fitting your car with high end parts to make it look fast without any of the obscene parts, look, or sounds of the ricer. For instance, when I purchased my 2017 Honda Accord Coupe -I decided on a V6 as opposed to the I-4 because turbocharger the I-4 was far too costly and the perfomance was close to the V6 without a lot of maintenance problems that many turbocharger systems associated with my car have. -Lowered my car on Tein coilovers with a 3-piece camber kit. Wanted the lower look, safely, and wanted a permanent suspension system that wasn't going to cause problems. -Wouldn't dare paint my calipers red. I find that even factory painted calipers is far too rice for my taste. I just ordered the Brembo Gran Turismo Big Brake Kit. Not cheap, but it's the real deal. While the BBK does offer improved brake performance (decreased brake fade and a slight decrease in stopping distance... well... it looks bad ass). -Even thou my car is FWD, I wanted to fit the widest rims and tires possible. Didn't want to slow the down performance, so I ordered Advan RZII 19x9.0 et 35 and 19x10.0 et 35 rims that are 12 lbs lighter on each corner than stock. Went from a 235/45/18 to 245/40/19 and 275/35/19. Car looks really mean and low. Again not cheap, and I get better acceleration now and cornering ability. -Getting my coupe retrofitted to dual projectors and putting dedicated HID projectors. -OEM lip spoiler and side skirts. It just looks tasteful -Going to replace all my speakers with higher end speakers and amp. This so called 350 Watt premium sound system that Honda puts in the car is more like 50-80 Watt RMS sound system that is dog shit. Overall, while I do like performance, since I'm not a mechanic, I'm not down with turbocharging and high costing performance modifications for one simple reason: if I can't work on my car, I don't need to be doing it. If I was knowledgeable mechanic you better believe my car would be turbocharged. I don't trust anyone but me on my car. I take care of what I own. I'm a believer in purchasing quality over cheap ricer shit. My aesthetics lens is that I always want a car that looks like a high factory variant version of a car. My Accord Coupe looks mean but it sounds stock. Mad respect for tuners, especially for those that do a lot of the work themselves. That truly is dedication.
0 Well civic is a good stock car, and also a good platform for modifications(lots of parts from different suppliers, light weight), well as for the modifications....You know what i mean
Woah neato I have an all silver 2001 sl1 i got from my grandmother when she didn't want it anymore.... Almost 150k miles on it and it works flawlessly They're such nice economy/entry level cars.
yeah me too, speacially for JDM cars. how many times have you seen a stock '34? MK.4 Supra? RX-7 FD3S? (Plus points for me atleast if it's in a "Different" color, like the '34's red and yellow color, MK.4's blue and the FD's Type R Bathurst R yelllow)
I believe not. RICE is Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. So body kits, huge wings, canard aero on front bumper, splitters, fake air vents or hood scoops, front and rear tow eyes, "Racing wheels", fake brake calipers etc installed on a stock 1.4 Civic or Lancer. That is RICE Audio setups is a very different category in my opinion.
If those speakers have all been setup and configured for a certain end result then no. Im a car audio enthusiast. Used to sell car audio and now its just a small side hobby. Custom and/or complex audio systems are not rice. They are a separte element of tuning or perhaps a better word would be modding.
i bought a 2008 hyundai accent for $750 that had a sticker bomb on one window, a spray painted black body, cut exhaust, and no rear seat. Im now restoring it to its former glory, and am gonna get a catback exhaust system installed instead of the shitty one it has now.
I personally think that if you want a car to go faster you should change the exhaust for a larger diameter one with much more flow. This includes the down pipe and cat. This is so you’re not hitting a brick wall with power after you put on a turbo or get a stage two tune. You also might want to get a much better intake so you can get more air and push out more exhaust especially if you plan on putting on some type of device like a supercharger or turbo. When you increase airflow with one of those methods you will also need better fuel injectors so you don’t run lean because of the amount of air you’re getting in. With aero it is what it is so do what you need to do to make your car more controllable or faster. Every car is different. Generally more downforce is better for something to be a fast street racer. Also get some light weight rims so your not spinning over 150lbs or weight to go forward. You might also lower the ride height for a lower center of gravity to increase the amount of g’s you can pull. If you want to go full on racer which at this point why tf not because you already did all of those other things you don’t need friends so you don’t need more than one seat and comfort hasn’t existed since you lowered your car and it started making more than 700 horses so get a light bucket seat and take out that unnecessary a/c system. You don’t really even need real glass just bust that out and put some plastic there. After that you probably need a new transmission to handle all of that extra power and maybe a torque converter if you really upped the power so do that and while you’re at it get a lighter carbon fiber drive shaft. After you’re done with that you can just take off the body panels and get some really expensive carbon fiber or Kevlar woven carbon fiber or some type of titanium and carbon composite material and make the body out of it. When you’re done with that get yourself a sponsor because now you’re a million in debt and in consoling because you heavily depressed that your wife left you to go and date that guy who drives the stock Ford Focus that’s not even the RS model because you won’t stop spending time with your favorite thing in the world. Little does she know now you’re in the positive and the meme about karins come about and you’re laughing at her because the world now knows that she’s the reason the meme came around that dumb cunt Karin. Damn I went too far into personal stuff there.

Of course stupidity can be a factor too.
Ricer is the beginner stage of a tuner
Imo
A D I ricers can't afford the under the hood mods... So we start out with the fun, cheaper parts, Aka the non performance enhancing parts which of course distinguishes a ricer
A D I your wrong on that subject
Philip Bahia how
I believe a ricer is an obnoxious, arrogant piece of shit that thinks his car is all that.
1:04 “that subie tho”
Now everybody think ur a carguy🤦🏽♂️
He’s trying to be one
@ŁůkăĞėłüťâšhv prob not
I think ricers are a bad mix between Tuners and Car show moders, cool bodykits, and well made audio systems are added to cars to take them to car shows, they don't expect cars to be fast, just to look cool or sound cool. On the other hand as you said, tuners are all about making cars go faster. Ricers are a group of people who can't do either, cars try to look cool and try to go fast, achieving none. I think you should make a video about that.
Alejandro Cortes rocket bunny body kits are rice for me
agreed. the rover's 555 livery was actually kinda cool in the fact that someone just wanted a daily driver to look like the Impreza rally car. if it's a daily that you don't care about, why not have fun doing that? it becomes a problem when one says his/her car is better performing with non-performance enhancing mods
Emmanuel Ayala at least they are functional at some point
70 Plymouth Hemi Cuda dude why the hell are you here too
Sharpshotz just cruising by
I think these are absolutes. Many ricers "would like" to make their car faster. It´s just they have limited money and rather invest into optical features rather than perfomance features. "tuners" on the other hand rather invest into performance than optical features... BUT everyone who says they dont care about looks ist lying to himself.
lol yeah, for ex. some ppl know that rb kit would have better impact on the aerodynamics but they dont like how ot looks etc
Yeah, like myself who can only do so much because his car is financed, so some people are only limited to minimal optical improvements, like LEDs or whatever.
If you have little money don't waste it to look like a moron simple as that
I'm broke, but I'm saving up to build a project drag car just cause my dad thinks I can't because I'm a girl
I guess I should b cautious about how I express myself with my car
To be honest, cars would be a bit bland if every car was a tuner car. They all look mostly the same and monotonous.
Well what is wrong with that dodge ram in the beginning. It may not be fast but it looks unique
So you mean to tell me that twinky from tokyo drift (hulk car) may be a ricer👀😂

What's the point if your car is fast but it looks slow? Ricing out a car is not good at all but adding a nice spoiler and a good looking widebody doesn't mean it's riced out! Also I hate for Hondas getting so hate as ricers! It's the fault of the owners who's ricing it , not the car's! Poor Honda😢
thank u u said it perfectly. man, i love widebody. ever heard of DRIFTING!!
Project_Evo, that is true
if u were really a car guy u would've said spoiler not wing.

Matthias um ok I'm believing that for now to lazy to Google it rn
agree
Project_Evo Evos & Sunbies usually comes with a big wing factory made, but when it comes to Hondas that don't come with rear spoilers,Ricers usually puts big wings for daily driven which doesn't make sense to me,I have a EG hatch so I put a EG6 rear spoiler and a front lip just to keep it clean and simple, another thing these Ricers do is put a deep dish wheel with stretched out tires which looks ungly as anything.

(2 hours later)
Datsun510zen have u finished ur essay
r u threatened rory
Fucking legend. lol Really well put "essay" man. Sums up my thoughts about modded car culture really well. It was odd realizing a while back how the Japanese build a car that makes themselves happy, while over here we seem to build a car to fit in with a group, to make OTHERS happy.
Some Ricer cars look pretty cool. It's their performance and way of driving lmao

Having a wing doesn't mean you're a ricer
Depends if a car is bone stock and front wheel drive a wing is almost pointless on a front wheel drive car
It’s the size and or if the car is stock and has a wing on a let’s just say a Nissan altama it makes no since
NFS champion coulson That’s completely false I can tell you if you want your car to corner better then you’re going to need downforce in the back to keep your back wheels from going out
@@1stappalachianmountainbrig193 it depends on how quick the car is the purpose of downforce is to keep the car smack on the ground whilst taking corners at high speeds to make sure the car has maximum traction and considering most front wheel drive cars are slow anyways having a wing on let's say a Corsa is only going to slow the car down and increase drag because a Corsa doesn't need any downforce at all you will only be considered as a ricer. I think there's also a 3rd tier that is closer to tuner than ricer: fitting your car with high end parts to make it look fast without any of the obscene parts, look, or sounds of the ricer. For instance, when I purchased my 2017 Honda Accord Coupe
-I decided on a V6 as opposed to the I-4 because turbocharger the I-4 was far too costly and the perfomance was close to the V6 without a lot of maintenance problems that many turbocharger systems associated with my car have.
It just looks tasteful
-Going to replace all my speakers with higher end speakers and amp.

Here is a toilet. Flush your wallet in it. Have a great day. Its a Hyundai accent. Not a sonata.
Have fun with your car the way you want, dont let people tell you otherwise
Nice 👍
That yellow dodge ram doesn't look bad, escrow for the lambo doors
Damn I'm a ricer I bought a champion body kit for my 05 impala thinking it was sweet but then I got embarrassed by a mustang owner🤷♂️
"Car guys" are such gatekeepers, you can do whatever you want with your car, the best looking car is the car you think looks best
Shame
if you love that mod dont bother and be yourself :D
@@tcm_twenty6221 he really shouldnt be a shamed . he's doing what he likes and we shouldnt stop him
Having a body kit and not a super fast car doesn’t make you a ricer
Essvd 沈黙 I agree with u! Stance cars have cool widebody but some of them are bone stock. But if we are talking about a Prius with a “custom race” body kit and cheap, fake wheels on it. That’s counts as a ricer.
Данила Ким also is the kit just a few inches away from the car, or a foot, it’s all about a balance between stock and insane, when it’s insane that’s when it’s rice
You mad bro?
@@mohdhelmi302 we all
What if it look like a rice but acts like a tuner ?
pizzasaver f&f lol
A wheater? Oater. Barleyer. Quinoaer.
pizzasaver he will talk about that in the next video
A bowl of rice
pizzasaver its a rice sleeper
While I’m thinking on giving my stock i4 mégane a nice exhaust, I wouldn’t call myself in any way a ricer. I just want to enjoy the sound it makes
2:57 This civic is literally in every single ricer vs tuner video.
Man people call every Honda a ricer which is not great like the s2000 is great the nsx is also great (1st gen) also the latest type r is over styled I say because sure it looks riced but the performance is great
what civic
Fk8 civic type r
2:52, who would do that to an ae86
Might as well turn it to the intial d ae86
1:03 fotobomb level miata
Not
a Miata stupid
Tuner sound system: custom fiber weaved enclosure, neo magnet subs and mids, and ribbon tweeters are all weight saving.
Thanks for putting an Ek hatch in the thumb nail not riced
Famus 801 ek coupe*
I'm honestly in love with that ek. Coming from a honda hater.
Famus 801 I like the EK9 Type R civic that was one of the best Civics they came out with next to the SiR EG6.
5:58 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂WHAT IS THAT?!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
