    Chedeville sounds way better to my ears than the others. I am not a horn player - wound up here randomly. Nice demo, thanks for doing it.

    How beautiful....you sound awesome. Thank you. I just discovered you on TH-cam, so I have not yet checked out what all you have. Also, I enjoyed hearing the differences and gained a lot of understanding per variations in their tones, etc. Thanks. God bless you in Jesus' Name.

    Nice to discover your site! This iteration of Cheds has a brighter sound than the “Steel Ebonite” Cheds. I have several of these, and 5 Cicero Kaspars bought directly from Mr Kaspar in the 60s, when I was still a student. You mention the Backun Hawkins Vocalise, and these tune great! First line e, its 12th high b, first space f and its 12th c are perfectly in tune: the first mouthpiece I’ve ever played without a big spread in pitch there. Chris Sereque

    Great video and playing! Those mouthpieces sound good. I would say my favorite was the Chedevile from that bunch. Sounded focused, round and warm at same time.

      Haha thank you for your very kind comment, Anthony! It was a very interesting experience because when I played them the Chedeville sounded so loud to me but through the mic M15 sounds pretty good, too. I think I was most comfortable on the Hawkins in terms of being able to be musically expressive but that might be because that’s just what I’m used to (M15, as well). What do you play on?

    Definitely a fan of the M15 at close range for stuff like chamber or smaller settings. Perhaps the Chedeville with a 3.5 for orchestral?

      @Joshua Heaney thank you, and I agree. The Chedeville I've found was kind of messed with unsuccessfully by someone prior to my purchase so it's getting some work done right now. I've since found out that even the Charles Chedeville blanks like these had quite a range, this one being a much later production model and basically not very sought after mouthpiece. I still liked the sound though, despite all of its flaws.The M15 I think is a very good mouthpiece close up and from far. It isn't the most even mouthpiece, however, as it gets a little bit wild in the altisismo and the long b is quite stuffy. But is there a perfect mouthpiece?? haha.. Let's see what happens to the Chedeville after the repair work! :)

      In the past I've found the intonation of the Backun mouthpieces kind of unusable in pro settings so it will likely be a loooong time until I jump on them to try (sorry!).

    • @tpark89
      @tpark89  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a late Ch. Chedeville (possibly on a Lenlandais blank) so I can only speak for it but this is tuned at 441-443 imo. You will have to ask Dale about the others.

    Unfortunately that is not a true vintage Chedeville mouthpiece. Most likely dates from the 1960’s. I would confirm with Brad Behn.

    M15 > Chedeville > Hawkins. Hawkins are deceptively "closed" and the reed often "closes off." M15 do a lot well without any weirdness. imo.

  • @jimis3167
    @jimis3167 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing I kinda disagree is, you should use some of your greatest played reeds to test the mouthpiece, not new ones. Because new reeds need break in time. I also think you played way too long the new reeds for first time. First time I play new reeds, I play them for 30 seconds each, after hours I play them 1 minute, next day I play them 2 and a half minutes and that's how It goes, increasing time each time😂

    • @tpark89
      @tpark89  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your thoughts. When I break in new reeds that's what I do, as well. I don't keep these "trial reeds."
