    Your reviews keep getting better. You are my go-to TH-camr for Mini-PC reviews. Would love to see some pcie bandwidth test for the USB4/TB3 ports because in the past there were different ways how they were connected to the CPU.

    Rob, you're the man! Just wanted to let you know that you're the best in the game when it comes to reviews on tech!
    Basically, almost all the other reviewers only do sponsored reviews, and because of that, they almost never give it an honest review! You give us consumers the hard facts whether we want to hear it or not!
    And that's exactly what we need! I'm so glad I've found your channel! Happy New years Rob!!!

    I'm amazed they managed to ship a botched case. That and the cluttered BIOS: they obviously don't care about having a polished product.
    For me it's not really a problem as long as it works. (Eager to see if the HX99G is faster and quieter than the sold-out HX90G)

    Great review as always! Is there any particular reason you don't display a comparison of noise levels between units, in the same way you compare performance and temperature measurements?

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a good idea which needs to be implemented. This review was still left over from last year, but planning for all mini reviews this year to have a noise graph for easy comparison.

    Rob, how do you, think, will the next generation of nuc be powered via usb power delivery?

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the new NUCs draw too much power for the current USB-C PD spec (100W maximum). It'll be possible once the new USB-C PD 3.1 spec is widely available, which allows up to a 240W power draw. Whether Intel adopts it though is up in the air. NUC 12 units not using DDR5 was a surprise, as they were supposed to always be using bleeding edge tech.

  • @dakkon74

    I guess as someone that does little to no gaming, the 6000 series is not worth the extra $200 or so over the 5000 series models. Also, I am concerned about some of the quirks these units come with, like messed up bios settings, the case tooling issues, etc.. Not sure if Beelink or Minisforums are better in that regard.

    • @alexkmbk
      @alexkmbk ปีที่แล้ว

      IMHO the biggest improvement for no gaming use case is DDR5 that has built in "On-die ECC" bit flip protection.

    • @dakkon74
      @dakkon74 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexkmbk The DDR5 is nice, but at least in synthetic benchmarks, it does not appear to be helping this unit do much better than the 5000 series. Maybe it is more noticeable IRL?

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So far the Beelink units have been the best quality overall. I don't think the Beelink SER 5 can be beat in value (especially at its Black Friday price) if you just want a decently powerful mini that's quiet.

    • @dakkon74
      @dakkon74 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Robtech Amazon has a lightning deal on the 32/500gb SER 6 6800H for $585 which is tempting, but I have seen the 16/500gb 5600 series SER5s as low at $309. I don't need the extra ram, and while I like the added APU muscle, it is a large premium to pay.

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that SER5 was a banger of a deal.

    Is there any feasible reason why we still see mini pc with barrel jack charging, when USB C is capable?

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like they may have run out of USB port bandwidth on the board as there are 3x USB 2.0 ports on the back, which is unusual. Although as far as I know, it's possible to have a USB-C PD port with no data capabilities, so it might come down to a cost cutting measure.

  • @mrchico2621

    You went pretty easy on this system in the end 😂
    Less then half the fps on most games, that's a pretty staggering graphics performance drop-off over the other 6000 series model. I expected more from an RDNA2 apu. Is that even an improvement over the previous gen?

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Easy? I recommended to wait for a price drop, get a 5000 series unit or consider the 6900HX instead 😅. The generational GPU improvement over the 5600U is around 30%. Performs very close to a 5900HX. The overall CPU performance improvement was small in comparison

    Thanks for the video. The 6600u in a minipc does not look so attractive imho. In general (at least for me), a minipc should be able to deliver better performance than a steamdeck OR be lower in price than a steamdeck. Ok maybe the CPU part of the 6600u is still better than on the Steamdeck, but overall especially for gaming….meh. I think also coming gaming handhelds with 6600u will not hold up very well against the steamdeck.
