  • Long story about our head of household bathroom, and it's ill fitting bathmat aside, we're weaving a custom size and shape on my rigid heddle loom. I'm using Cotton worsted and 8/2 cotton for the hem to weave this loop and pile bathmat! I learned so much, and it actually worked! You can do it too!

"...putting time and effort into something and not knowing how it's going to turn out".......that just described everything I make 🤣 life is short, projects should be fun, even if it doesn't work out. Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn ❣️

My superhero name is 'The Procrastinator' (you have to say it with a deep announcers voice!!) Anywhoo before I ramble on, just wanted to say I love your videos and find them inspiring and informative. And as to 'housekeeping' the older you get the worse your eyesight gets and you just don't see the dust anymore! 🤓

Being a good housekeeper is vastly overrated IMHO! That is a super project. I loved the loops between every thread and the 8/2 cotton for the hem is brilliant! Putting time and effort into something that you're not sure is going to work out is called life, isn't it? Plus we got 3 different hairdos in one video!

Hi Trisha, Thank you for being so honest about yourself and any of your imperfections. It is so freeing for women who feel they are judged by their looks, home, careers, etc. Growing up with a household of perfectionist which was very stressful and judgmental, I do not meet their standard but that is okay. My house is a home and our friends and kids feel free to come home and relax. Your rug looks so nice and I love the colors. Keep up the great work.

Hi Trish. Thank you so much for weaving this bath mat. The hem is perfect. I love the color. I love the way the variegated yarn makes this beautiful pattern. I love the loops and I think bare feet are really going to love the feel of those Loops when they get out of the bath tub. I think all of your choices are great. I'm glad that you found what you love about it and are going to make another one. If I wasn't in the middle of trying to sell my house and pack up right now, I would already be warping my loom; so it's going to be awhile but that's on my bucket list. Thank you for sharing this. Well done.

Your videos are so helpful and inspiring. Mistakes and “failures” when I was younger stymied me to not try again. I don’t know where that attitude came from but it wasn’t at all useful for a maker. Thank you for teaching us to look at things differently. Your experiences give us a running start in these projects and will save us money and frustration. Luther is such a ham. He acts like being in the camera shot is unintentional. We’re on to you little one!

You are so right, failure isn’t Failure. I just watched a video from Adam Savage today about not being afraid to fail. The universe must be trying to tell me something!
Also, thank you for sharing that you’re not a perfect housekeeper. I’m willing to bet you’re just fine, but I think a lot of us women put all of that stress on ourselves to do all the things, and it’s nice to know that other people are as imperfect as I am.

It's something I always try to instill in others no matter what skills they are attempting to learn, but very difficult for some people to feel comfortable doing. Totally love the texture of both of different stitches. The only thing I would consider, because our tile is slick is adding a backing of some sort. The shelf lining spongie grip liners would work well sewed on the back and you can get them in different sizes. TY Trish! 💜 💕

@@FiberLoveDiary I wish I could post a picture to show you! It's a double weave tube style caddy that hangs on the wall. You close the tube every few inches to create pockets to hold all of the shuttles and pick up sticks, etc., horizontally. I made my first one when I was learning RHL weaving and am now making a wider version to hold the 24" long shuttles. It's a good way to use up extra yarn and create something useful as well!

Fantastic project! I'd be interested to try a thicker dowel with this method to see how high I could get the pile to go. A crochet hook or a rug hook might help to bring up the loops from underneath. Also: I'm a terrible housekeeper too! And I have a great pyrenees. OMG the hair everywhere! :) I love love love your attitude!

I tried a crochet hook and it was slower for me, but maybe it would help you. We're all different.

So glad I came across your video! I just got a RHL and this would be a good project. Can you tell me what shrinkage factor you experienced with the cotton material? Also, I'm better your puppy likes the nubby texture. 😊👍👍👍

I always wanna give the pup a squeese :) Hilarious...I had to go measure mine now lol, which is only 34" but I could use almost 5 feet lol. I've always liked the peaches lime color. Don't cha love those sewing clips? AND...if it doesn't turn out...you did something fun you like to do for awhile. I like both textures and how it turned out. The dog likes it :)

I love this bath mat! I am going to try to make it. How long did it take you to weave it?

Oh very cool. I was wondering which texture do you think is more absorbent? Have you made the one for your bathroom yet?

Thank you for this lovely idea! I'm making one with Maurice Brassard 16/8 cotton. Wanted something big and substantial for my bath. As I use up copious amounts of yarn, I sit wondering about the loops. Will they pull out? Will washing help them have more stability? How did your rug hold up to use and washings? Thanks!!!

Love the loop part. Wondering how much yarn that took?

The warping board is no longer available. I’m so sad. 😥. Thanks for the awesome video! Now I need a wider loom! And that warping board!

This was excellent and now I want to go grab my rigid heddle loom and try this. It looks like it was super time intensive though.....how bad was it?

Your channel is one of my top 5 favorite! How long did it take you to weave this project with all of those loops?

It got a lot faster as I practiced, but it was a long haul. I didn't time it, but it seemed to take forever.

I have the exact same idea for a future project. I had seen pictures of loop woven items, but had not seen a "how to" video. This is great to validate my idea. Only question: What size are the knitting needles? You say they are about 8" long - but what diameter or US size. I am guessing 8's???
