I appreciate videos like these where the focus is on the scenery and background sounds, it's quite calming. When I'm home, I don't watch much TV but I like to either have background noise or music when I'm cleaning, working or studying and these videos are perfect when I'm in that mode.
You can be a very happy and satiesfied man when you are old and you're sitting in your chair with your son. Than you show him your videos from your flights to Hawaii & Alaska. I really liked that moose there with it's young one. How cute is that then ? Great filming again. I guess nobody here in the net is flying around like you do.
I really wanted to showcase that this is a small Alaskan community. So I went the extra mile, literally haha, to get those shots! I’m glad you enjoyed them.
I agree! They're some of my favorite flights to take and feature! Sadly, flights like this don't perform very well on the channel though. You know, they aren't the 777's, and A340's that get the big views. I wish more people felt like you and me and watched these, as then I'd be able to make a lot more of them. Sadly though, this video, and every other small turboprop video I post never pay for themselves. I make them because I enjoy taking flights like this, and I think it's interesting to feature such unique airlines, aircraft, and airports on the channel. But, I guarantee this video get's about 1/5th the total views as a regular full fight on an A321/757 or bigger would get.
Nice! I used to fly for Era, before it became part of Ravn. Was hoping to see the crew, but I guess everyone from back then has probably moved on. Loved flying the Dash 8, but also had some good times in the Twin Otter. Sometimes I kind of miss it up there. Nice video.
In general, I try not to film the crew on any flight. Just to protect their privacy. I never flew on them before they were Ravn. The few times I’ve flown them, they seem to be a pretty good little airline.
Beautiful video! I have never been to Alaska, but it is certainly on my bucket list! Also, that was one of the smoothest DASH 8 landings I've ever seen!
I just learned that flying is best choice for this type trip specifically. I looked up and it takes 4 hours and 7 minutes to drive from Homer to Anchorage while flying on a Dash 8 takes far, far less than that. I see a mountain pass that can be very dangerous during winter time. Ill take Dash 8 over that anytime.
Yup. In fact, on my trip to Alaska last week, I actually drove to Homer instead of flying and I can confirm that the drive is VERY beautiful... But also takes every bit of that 4 hours and more. So, even when you can drive between two cities in Alaska, even if they're relatively close, it is WAY faster to fly. Thanks for watching my friend!
Amazing how long an airline keeps their a/c in operation--none of us can say we are driving the same car/truck for 27 yrs! I'm guessing the Dash 8 is the immediate predecessor of the Q400. Gourmet cuisine inflight balanced on your thigh! Something to drink with those expertly wrapped cookies? :) Wondering if,it takes a half-hour roughly to make the journey, how long to drive the distance, if there are any roads? The pilot ate up a lot of concrete before touchdown--the departure lounge area at ANC has all the ambience of a hospital /doctor's office!--were you connecting elsewhere? Does Ravn belong to any FF programs?
It is amazing how long airlines can keep their aircraft. That said, you have to keep in mind, that with major C and D maintenance checks that planes are required to go though, the entire plane is basically torn apart and every check every few years. How many people actually service their cars at the recommended intervals, and how long would they last if they actually did? And yes, you're correct. This would be the predecessor to the eventual Q400. You can go even farther back if you want and look up the DHC-7 and DHC-6 which were even farther back. I've flown on, and they're on the channel, DHC-6's before, but there are very few DHC-7's still around. The cookies on Ravn are actually REALLY good. I think they're from a local bakery. They do provide water or juice as well, but I don't usually have time to deal with a cup of water on a flight this short, so I didn't take one. As for roads, there are roads between Anchorage and Homer. Homer is kind of the "end of the road" Alaska. It's a 4 hour drive in good weather to get between the two cities. As for the landing. The runways at ANC are really long. The one here clocks in at 12,400 feet. Infinitely more than is needed for a Dash 8. So, it's likely this was done on purpose so we wouldn't need to taxi as far. Knowing ANC, there was likely a 747 or MD-11 on final behind us haha. The terminal that Ravn uses at ANC is not the main terminal that everyone else uses, so the rest of ANC looks much more modern. Ravn operates their flights under a different FAA regulation set than Alaska, or any other major airline. This means several things, but largely, you don't have to go through TSA screening. You can literally show up 15 minutes before your flight and hop on. It's similar to how JSX operates in the lower 48 states. It's more of a "scheduled charter" than a regular commercial flight. So, because TSA isn't needed, they use and old wing of the airport that hasn't been used for the major airlines in a long time. And yes, they do have their own FFP, but they also participate in Alaska Airlines' FFP, so you can have hour miles added there instead.
A friend of mine always wanted to visit Alaska before he dies. He said that many times. He couldn't his entire life because he lived in the GDR behind the iron curtain. Then after 1990 he worked like a dog owning 3 shops. I told him many times don't put it on a long line. Life is a joke and much to short. He always flew to Spain for vacation. Now he is dead. He died with 68 on throat cancer. I don't want to expirience the same and i will fly to Alaska next spring before coming to Texas and Joplin. It'll cost me a lot of money but i give a f... about it. PS The sound of that De Havilland Dash 8 on my earphones is so great. I love that sound.
Well said my fiend. Life is short. Don’t put off the things you want to do or you might not get to do them. Also, I too quite enjoy the buzz if the Dash 8’s engines!
0:47 Well, that's certainly not something that I see very often in aviation vids. Were they waiting to catch a flight? Haha. But seriously...some beautiful footage there, dude. :)
I visit Phoenix quite often, but the aircraft type I fly in varies based on who I'm flying. Recently, I've flown into PHX more on Southwest, which means I've been flying in on 737's most of the time.
Great fly! I already mentioned the railroad strike but have you heard union reached the tensive deal with Biden administration which avoided the strike that could lead to shortages, prices goes up, and suspending of Amtrak routes and commuter train? What do you think?

Those opening shots were fantastic! Such beauty, and that moose calf was so cute. Great travelog! 🏔

One of the smoothest landings I’ve seen in a while! Nice video! Love that livery and I love the Dash 8!
It was a very nice landing. A bit of a float after the initial touchdown, but very nice overall!
@@sla31 Exactly, but the Dash 8 is really nice to watch land because you can see the wheels! It cures my depression!

The q300 aircraft is so cool and cute love this video
lovely little plane in a beautiful ride.

Taking this flight next month. Cool video
Thanks my friend. You'll have a great flight. Ravn is a cool little airline!

Glad you think so!
Love the nature scenery at the beginning. Hope to visit Alaska one day.
Alaska is definitely worth the trip my friend. Thanks for watching!
Awesome , Thanks Skylite 😀
No problem my friend! Glad you enjoyed it!
WOWOWOW!! Great views!! And what an incredibly smooth landing!! Especially for this kind of aircraft.
