    I use silicone grease on all my black o-rings. Procedure is:
    - Remove old lube with toilet paper
    - Clean up the minor remains with an old cloth, rotating along with the threads like you do with your swab
    - Apply tiny blobs of grease around the threads with an old toothbrush
    - Spread the grease carefully with said toothbrush, making sure to push the bristles into the threads as I rotate the light
    Has worked perfectly well so far. I don't like using fingers because of their lack of precision, the amount I get on the tip of the toothbrush (a round blob around 2mm across) is about perfect for most lights.
    (haven't had to lube up any silicone-based o-rings so far. I'd likely use petroleum jelly.)

    This works the same way as the little rubber boots on the pins that your car brakes move on. It’s simple, natural rubber breaks down under oil base lubricant. Silicone or man made is safe for both natural rubber and man made/synthetic rubber. I found this out after tons of research. Was having issues with my brake pins sticking/shimmy a short period after replacing pads and rotor. Correct grease/lubricant fixed it after researching what no one could tell me, not even all the mechanics I spoke to knew..

    I use Nyogel 760G for all my flashlights except from Zebralight because they don't use silicone o-rings. For light cleaning of threads, I use cleanroom wipes (thin cloth that feels like synthetic silk) and drench them in IPA and just wipe it down. For heavier cleaning I clean the threads with dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush under running water.

    Trident Pure Silicone lube is what I use on diving gear and it works great on flashlights. Applied with a Q-tip.

    I don't have any Nyogel to compare it to, but Ford's Motorcraft Electrical Grease is supposed to be very similar and is nicely priced in between Superlube & Nyogel. It also has the glow-in-the-dark additive - that's a really nice feature when you're trying to get your lube in just the right spot.

      If it is the Motorcraft XG-12 then it is just a repackage Nyogel 760G. Good stuff.

    Most of the black o-rings on flashlights are Nitrile (NBR) rubber, and others transparent or colorful are probably silicone rubber. Silicone base lubricant is not compatible with silicone rubber. The Super Lube tube and the bin you have are two different base types of lube. Super lube and NyoGel have compatibility info on their website.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  ปีที่แล้ว

      Super lube comes in many variants, but all indications are the tube and jar I have is the same stuff.

    I’ve had the same 2oz Nyogel 760G since the early 20’. Expensive but does the job very well in all my flashlight. Even used it on high lumens lights without any issues of being runny. Good stuff and worth the investment for your flashlights.

    Nice video man !
    But im thinking about it a little different... !
    Because im into vaping many years, i know some things a little the other way around... ! Especially because i have a Mechanical Tube Mod with 100% mechanical switch and the whole good faction of the mod is related on the contacts and on the gaps that the current have to pass through... good connections and less gaps it's much better... ! So if you check out the threads on a Mechanical Tube Mod they are way thinner than on a flashlight, almost 2-3 times thinner... ! So i think that the black thing on your towel is arc because the current trys to pass this specific spot, so you he the effect of the blackness on your threads... !

    Munky Spunk sold by Prometheus Lights is great for titanium threads but not for o-rings. 760G and Nano Grease are excellent choices for general purpose in my experience.

    I want to purchase some super lube. There are 2 versions available for me. The multi purpose and the O ring version.
    What would you recommend? I would say the O ring version. Unfortunately these super lubes are expensive in the Netherlands. About 30 euros per 100ml so I don’t wanna make the wrong purchase,
    I appreciate your time!

    I have a copper mechtorch. It started to flicker and not reach full brightness. I sent it in and they said the threads are to libricated. I said ok and cleans the whole knife and threads. It’s still doing it and they can’t tell me why. I have tried everything. Is there a way I could send it to you and you could look at it? You can do a video or something on it and have it for a few weeks if you wanted to. I just don’t know what ells to do and I love the light with the dr jones driver in it.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the driver retaining ring. inside the head of the flashlight, the brass ring that holds the driver in might be loose. That would cause your issues. Similarly bas contact on the switch end would as well. Check it out and report back!
