Another episode of my Football Manager 2021 challenge mini-series. Barcelona are £1billion in debt and I've created a database to reflect the debt, along with all the up to date real life transfers and a start date in the 2021/22 season - it's like playing Football Manager 2022 early (sort of!). We've got 4 seasons in this series to turn around Barca's financial problem, get them out of debt and build a squad capable of winning the Champions League again while we do it!

Got rid of everyone, I brooked no arguments with anyone, if they didn't go they went into the U19s back on the list and a week or two later they were gone, what happened to Dani Olmo?
It couldn't have looked differently. All the overpaid and aged deadwood had to go. Not all of them did, but it's impossible. Takes 2-3 windows to make it happen. I had Umtiti until end of his contract as nobody wanted him. Languished at the reserves.
Team doesn't look weaker, is definitely younger and should be ok in the league. Looking at sponsorship revenue, it might clean the debt just at the end of the save, without any extra effort from you Kev :D
He went to Liverpool a day before Oxlade-Chamberlain signed for us
Still 4 matches till the end of the season, but already confirmed moukoko on a free
I got in Edinson cavani, Isco, Martha De Sciglio and Nicklas Sule all for free then paid for Patrik Schick (£20m), Franck Kessie (32m), Roman Zobnin (2.2m) and lautaro Martinez (50m plus add ons) also got Jorginho on loan!
Sold aguero, lenglet, busquets, coutinho, wague, pjanic, trincao, de jong, Neto, dembele, roberto, braithwaite, araujo, Alba
Signing Abraham would be funny for me because in one of my saves he is Barca manager in 2041

Great series 👍 bit disappointed that you didn't just promote some of the great academy players. Gavi, Balde, Miranda, Luzzi and more would all be worth a place in the squad you have now and you could have saved some transfer fees.
gavi turns out great
Balde and Gavi developed really well for me they also played really well. Balde played in 25 League games for me a lot as a sub and got 2 goals and 6 assists. Gavi played in 29 League games with 8 goals and 2 assists. I tended to start them against all weaker teams and at home then used them as subs in other games so they played a lot to develop. I never used any of the other ones though. Both their attributes now before next season look pretty good, especially Gavi.
i used demir, think he finished my first season with 14 goals and 12 assists from the wing

I’ve made 17 signings in the save. 3 of them from Premier League clubs. Even if you count Tammy Abraham as well because he’s English, that’s still only 4 out of 17…
Might want to consider selling players off while still paying part of the wages. The net effect of the transfer fee + wages offloaded + wages still paid might still be a net positive.
I agree, I think it's necessary if the goal of the save is to clear the debt. Also, agreeing to the payoffs with players leaving is essentially the same thing financially as the partial wage contributions, just structured differently, but Kev seems fine with the first and completely opposed to the latter. The money comes out of the club balance either way.
What i was going to say. £100k per week = £5.2m for year while he wants a £6.5m+ payoff.
Whilst the maths is correct, it would come out of the wage budget, whereas the payoff comes out of the transfer budget.
So that's another factor to consider
20 mins in, still waiting for Kev to look in the Dev. Centre...am guessing he'll be really happy to see Pjanic and his £275k wages returning after the Griezman panic

@@leslieshergold5002 that's how I feel about Tammy Abrahams! Just putting a Chelsea youth infront of your own; if he was a class 21 yr old he wouldn't be affordable.
... here Kev is whispering thinking I come here to watch the transfers; I come here to watch you play FM; if you went to the dev centre, faffed, talked gibberish, missed something that was clearly visible on the screen; just be classic Kev and always enjoyable; but seeing an excited Kev finding an existing gem at the club would have been gold, imho.
I'd consider letting busquets go in jan paying half his wages (so use him till Jan, then offer him out with 50% wages since it'll only be for 6 months and you won't have that clause done then)
I got rid of Alba and Busquets by paying part wages, no other choice. The wages i paid were still less than the transfer fee to net positive to the club of a few million. Pjanic went to Man Utd immediately.
Man Utd signed 3 players off me Pjanic for £35million, Christensen who I signed from Chelsea for £3million + Neto in January for £37million and Depay for £60million. I sold Alba and Busquets to Juventus in January for £23.5million and £15million I think, Alba I didnt have to do anything but Busquets I had to pay £86k per week but it was worth it as he was being paid £275k. Christensen who ended up replacing him I also got big money for so it worked out really well.
If you want to get rid of a player that doesnt accept other offers, change his agreed playing time to the lowest possible. I had a player finally agree an exchange deal with a pay cut after I changed his playing time to surplus, after he previously had refused the contract offer from the other club. His contract was expiring in one years time and he would certainly have left on a free.
When you transfer them Kev go into their happiness screen and put them as surplus to requirements i find that gets them out of the door fairly quickly
Works everytime for me. Before offering, I talk to the player and tell him I just offer him. If no transfer fee received I will put him on transfer list with surplus to req. He will go, without upseting the team. This is the way for selling Team Leaders.
Eric Garcia is good enough to be a starter with Sule. Long term CB partnership there
Norwich offered Gilmour over twice the wages you were offering.
You should talk to the players and persuade them to leave when a bid comes in Kev, works a lot if the time

I've never enjoyed watching someone else play football manager more so until this series. This is such a great concept, already looks a step ahead of what the real-life Barca are doing! Just saying for me, Greenwood took such a pay-cut to join as did Ampadu, they've been revelations

I plan on doing this save at the start of FM 22. I would do it with Kevin’s database but I know most of the wonder kids so it would be too easy for me. My advice to Kevin is to scout Western South America, North Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. That are the regions you will find the cheapest wonder kids. Also Italy has many young players with really cheap release clauses. Some helpful advice for you to help you during this save.
Tammy Abraham got me a premier league win with Wolves. I do like him a lot. Great striker.

The stress is on the "a" not the "o" of Livaković and the "i" sounds like the "i" in "lick" rather than "like"; you nailed Ihattaren though.

Which is why there’s no point in me trying to pronounce names “correctly” - a quick look at the comments section shows people don’t agree on the correct way to say names most of the time!
De Jong left for Liverpool on mine too for £117M up front with £32M in add-ons
Ihattaren is stupid good. Had him at Chelsea in my FM20 save. Just make sure he plays for some senior side somewhere regularly.
Lenglet isn't terrible, he just isn't fully developed yet. He has some room to grow if you play him. He also has a defensive link up with Pique. I started him day 1 alongside Pique and he grew into a great center back.
Paying a portion of some of those big wages to get rid of players is better than paying all of their wages, particularly on an unhappy player you’re barely going to use anyway!
I can already see it mentioned elsewhere, but I was also wondering why you didn't use the 'persuade to leave' option when offers were accepted for the players. On most of the screens it said they weren't interested in moving to the buying club so it may have helped push one or two more out the door. Overall, a very solid transfer window. Well played.
I love all the wheeling and dealing, and the financial picture stuff. So different from other saves I've followed.

I managed to get Busquets to leave by including him in a deal for transfer listed Kovacic. Alba went in January for a big fee to PSG who also gave him big wages, guess that was the ideal time to shift him. I feel your Norwich pain, Todd Cantwell rejected me in favour of staying at them. Umtiti is my bane, refuses to leave and has now done his ACL :)
Norwich problems in the Bourne save as well. Seems that for some strange reason, they're a top club in this version of FM.

Transfer window was better than expected managed to spend a bit - 150 million and managed to get a few out. Struggling to get rid of umtiti though - even for nothing. Thanks for the heads-up bout busquets extension clause. I have also basically got rid of the b team also. Sold a load of the players and let the coaches contracts run out. Also get rid of koeman as assistant. He's on 70k a week

Cracking series kev, offer Gavi a long term contract now before his current ability flies up. Over the years on my chelsea save I been chasing him and can't afford his 350k a week wage demand. Tie him down now 👍🏼🤘🏻

Promote from the youth team.. Its the Barca way and you have many great prospects, Gavi, Akhomach etc. Transfer list Ter Stagen and clubs will come in. Thanks for the continuing videos 👍
Its hard battling to sell players lol, in January Umtiti was almost impossible to sell I included him in deals and he was turning down Chelsea and PSG but then he weirdly went to Milan in part exchange for Ibrahimovic.
I think rotating ter Stegen with livakovic wld b ideal for now bcuz ter stegen is 30 so u cld slowly fase him out or lower his wages
Demir at 10 mil is not record fee for an Austrian. Arnautovic went for double that twice.

I signed Zirkzee from Bayern for £2.2million and loaned him to Valencia who are paying all his wages as a guy who I can loan out and sell and he's scored a hat-trick for them on the first game of the 2nd season, his value went up to £26million as soon as I signed him. Sule who I got for free scored the only goal on his debut for a 1-0 win.
That German central defensive partnership is very strong.
Norwich are Kev's FM21 nemesis.
In mines also at the end of the season Lazio or Napoli bid £15million for Aguero and I accepted delighted to move him on but he turned them down and no one else has made a bid since.

that's a great transfer window, i was scared you'd sell trincao instead of loaning him out, he's te type of player that can go for a ridiculous fee in the last season of the save
I have a feeling that the reason the competition prize money is down is because the club have sold their rights to a % if their future La Liga revenue for cash up front in real life, so the guys who have fiddled with the database might have included that.
Playing along with this save; finished 4th, won Copa Del Rey and lost the Champions League final. Sold £186,000,000 worth of players in Jan: Sergi Roberto (36.5 mil) Frankie De Jong (81 mil) Memphis Depay (54 mil) Sergio Aguero (36 mil) Clement Lenglet (29.5) Braithwhaite (9 mil) and I signed Nkunku for 8.5 mil and then got Mason Greenwood on loan. Think I done alright.
42:28 Funny, I was looking on my save and Barca resigned Grimaldo the same year and paid 46m to play 16 games and be sold for 23m after 2 seasons lol
Not playing along so don't know how likely this is, but would it be possible to loan out players like Busquets, Ter Stegen etc? Not a permanent solution but can relieve pressure on wage bill for a while.

You can choose to not register players for the first division squad. They would get angry and force a move.

Good move signing Livakovic Kev hes a very good keeper for cheap money but Ihatteren is garbage he never reaches anywhere near his potential in any save ive played and hes just very disappointing considering his potential. Striker wise have you thought about Arezo? Hes cheap and hes a goal machine usually.
Trincao is a beast on my team, try him out. I played him as an IW with shoot more often and he scored like 33 goals
In FM20 he was a star for my Not F team who won the Champions League 3 times in a row.
In real life Barca managed to reduced all the captains incl Pjanic salary with 30-50 %.. So I hope FM22 gonna be more realistic and also show that some players are loyal.. Btw Belotti is a good cheap forward

I am trying to do the same save as you, by using your uploaded save. But the whole thing about doing it in 4 years gets ruined instantly, because of the board taking a new big loan right after i take over the club and the loan is being payed over 10 years. Any suggestions to this problem? Is it possible to not take the loan?
Keep restarting the save until they don't take the loan just like they didn't do for him.
My Barcelona also took a loan but it was only like 78 mil. I just kinda assumed that 78 mil of debt was good enough to being debt free

Previous club president was using the club as his personal chiefdom. He was bribing the players with the club's money. His payoff was the players' support.
The pay off is a compensation for the lower wages.

I've sold most of my players. Except for that damn Umtiti who nobody wants to buy (literally nobody bids anything).
I felt a bit sentimental though and am making the huge mistake of signing Messi for 12 mil and a 325k per week contract!

He’s on far too much money for his ability level though.
He got injured in my game for 6-8 months and only played 14 games so it probably slowed his development, nobody would buy him but I eventually got him loaned out to Crystal Palace.

I had a deal agreed with him for if Ter Stegen left. But I delayed too long and I think he went to Spurs

I re-sgned Messi for £9million after selling Depay to Man Utd for £60million. Also signed Mendes who was on loan at PSG for £23million and a right-back Calegari for £20million. Milik for free and Haaland for £30million up front, £50million in 3 yearly installments and £30million if we reach the Copa Del Rey final so im going to have to get knocked out in the Cup semi all the time lol im trying to get Aguero to leave, Ibrahimovic who signed for me and scored my only goal in the CL final which we won on penalties and he also was the only one who missed his retired. I signed Elliot from Liverpool also as my number 10, I had mostly played Pedri and Gavi there but they became back-up. I signed Ronaldo Camara and Zirkzee for free also who I loaned out and plan to sell next summer and Milik as well probably although he is my 2nd choice striker. I planned to use Billy Gilmour but have to loan him out as the 3 foreigner rule and I have Calegari, Elliot and someone else who I forget but Gilmour can't be used since he's the weakest. Forgot I signed Pau Torrest also, for like £30million up front and £25million in 3 installments.
I also sold Christensen who I signed for £3million + Neto in January to Man Utd for £37million.
My team is now
Ter-Stegen, Calegari, Sule, Torres, Mendes, De Jong, Pedri, Moukoko, Messi, Fati, Haaland.
Bench: Onana, Garcia, Dest, Gavi, Elliot, Demir, Milik
Squad: Pique, Rudiger, Mingueza, Balde, Aguero plus 2 regens I got called Ferran and Xavi Rio, Xavi Rio is class, he's 6ft 5 and scored 4 goals in 4 games as a sub, youngest scorer in the League, Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup lol he still 15 but potential 5 star and already 1.5 star it says similar to Ibrahimovic. Ferran is a Busquets type and not as good but i've gave him a couple of games.
I also have Trinaco loaned out to Crystal Palace, he got a 6 month injury when he was on loan and only played 14 games and I tried to sell him but nobody would buy him.
After all my wheeling and dealing I still have £106million to spend but im probably not going to sign anyone maybe Gabriel Barbose if I can get rid of Aguero since he can play wide and up front.

in my save dembele and few others have left on a free just because i can't afford the wages despite winning the league its just not possible this is the hardest save i have ever done but its so much fun, and i find it funny the board rejects any transfers i make because im irresponsible with the wage budget i mean wtf how am i to blame lmfao

You're just wasting money on below per older players, give a chance to the B team kids instead- they will be cheaper will eventually be a lot better than 26m OX lol
I would recommend you to sign Zlatan, he is scoring at will in Premier League playing on my Arsenal save and is making less then 100k p/w.
I would also recommend Hakan Çalhanoğlu, if he is available to you.
