I had a teacher incorrectly fail me on a written test. Two or three students aced the test, and the entire rest of the class failed. The teacher refused to talk to me about the grade and I ran out of his class in tears. My friend (who passed the test) told the teacher that I had the same answers that she had, yet I had failed. The teacher came to my next class and interrupted the class to apologize to me IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS.

It was in the 1980s and I would get harassed like that. One time, an engineer - not my manager - asked me to type a letter. I told him I didn't type while touch typing in some programming code I was working on. My program, my code. He got all huffy and went to my supervisor, then went off to my manager. I said, I thought I was hired to do programming, not typing letters. Manager looked at me, then told the engineer to take it to the department secretary in another building. thanks, Dennis.

I am a public school teacher in the USA. If a student has any health issues that could affect their learning, a group of educational professionals will meet to determine the best accommodations for that student to help them access the material that their classmates are learning. Teachers are required by law to follow these accommodations.

It absolutely stuns me that the music teacher Karen either a) was aware of OP's hearing impairment and decided to cruelly ignore his normal needs, b) was unaware of OP's hearing and decided he was a "troublemaker," and c) is/was still teaching in that school after the incident. Ignorant people always seem to amplify their ignorance the more obvious the situation, as with OP's case. Cheers....

unfortunately it's often hard to fire teachers.
I had a teacher that always failed me on everything, I mean everything. Tests, homework, in-class work, etc. I have no idea why she hated me so much. I never talked, always rose my hand, etc. At the end of each six-week period, I would have a PTA meeting that would include my disabilities worker lady. Every single time, the teacher would be forced to give me the proper grade, which would always end up being from 90 to 100's. She did this the entire year. She wasn't fired. Four or six years later my middle brother had her, she did the exact same thing to him. Then a few years after him, our youngest brother had her. Yup, did it to him too. She was never fired. She did this is a lot of other students too. She was awful. I just hope that she's suffering the worse pain imaginable for the rest of her miserable life.
Another teacher, I never had him, in our school (in the late 90's / early 2000's) was a bit crazy. He never harmed students or went "crazy" but he would often talk to his coffee mug, talk to a filing cabinet and other stuff. He was a great teacher from what I hear. He would start lecturing and then begin mumbling something else that turned into a completely different subject, like aliens or dinosaurs, just random things. Students liked him. iirc he was a Vietnam vet, so probably a bit of ptsd going on.

Back when I was a self-employed contract programmer, my then GF bought something from a catalogue - one of those that allows you to do three payments - she didn't, she paid the bill. This seems to have completely short circuited their system. She then got a bill for £0.00 - a month later another, reminder, bill for £0.00 and, finally, a DEMAND FOR PAYMENT (all caps) with threats that, if she didn't pay the outstanding £0.00 they'd take her to court - this was when she first showed it to me (she being somewhat panicked by the language). Of course I knew what had happened - some coder had decided to check for non-zero balance before rounding - and the £0.005 was non-zero and had been rounded to zero.
Thing is, being contract, I had my own limited company - and my GF did the business banking on a Monday morning - so I told her just to take it to the bank and pay it - and instruct the teller that she wanted to pay in cash. The teller said "oh yes, right-O", stamped the bill and handed the receipt back to my GF. "Will that work?" the GF asked, "oh yes" the teller replied "and your partner is being especially evil about it because, as it's a cash payment, it's gone through as a Giro Credit - which has an £8.00 fee!"

She ignored that one as well. The next month she received a letter demanding payment or the attorneys would get involved. She wrote a check for $0.00 and never heard from them again. Story 3, there are teachers that need to get over themselves. Teachers like her don't realize that being a butt to disabled students can get them in big trouble. The music teacher one reminded me of my music teacher from middle school. She assumed no one would believe a student over her, so since she was very uptight about how she expected the students to sing, she started threatening to shoot kids that didn't sing the way she wanted to. If only one kid was the target she may have gotten away with it, but she did it to multiple students per class, per grade. My parents got evidence and got her fired, then the principal expelled our entire family since he knew my parents had evidence of him physically assaulting students. After all, if we did anything afterwards he could claim fabrication of evidence of disgruntled parents. They just gave the evidence to other parents.

It has been a couple of decades since this happened, and both my parents are dead now (god riddance) but before I cut contact with them, they convinced my husband at the time, to let them move in, just for a week or two, because they put in their 30 day notice to vacate their rental before they had found another place to move. Typically, since I needed to cook for my own kids, I was the one who primarily did the cooking. My kids, husband, and myself ate first, and my parents were welcome to whatever was left over. On the times when my mom made food for herself and my dad, my dad would, unfailingly, every, single time she cooked for him, would take a bite, burn is mouth and then berate my mom for serving him food that burned him. I was pregnant with my forth child during this, and the stress I felt from his yelling and swearing got to be too much for me. So one evening, after my mom had made my dad food, he took a bite, burned his mouth, and tarted screaming at my mom again for the food being too hot. I asked him, "What did you expect, cold food?" He responds, "No, but I shouldn't have to get burned every time I eat something!" I countered, "Perhaps you should wait for I to cool down before taking a bite. Even my children know to do that." His response to that, "Well, maybe your mom shouldn't cook the food at suck a high temperature!" I chuckled at how ridiculous that was, and said, "That's not how cooking works! If you don't cook food at the proper temperature, it doesn't kill bacteria, now does it properly cook the food!" He harumphed at that. He never shouted about food being too hot again, though. P.S. it took two years before they finally moved out, but only because my own family was threatened with eviction by our landlord because we had unauthorized people living there. It only took them a week to find a place, so I think they just planned on being squatters indefinitely.

Story 1: I work for a agency that needs to look at government ID when people are setting up accounts on government websites. It's very rare that we get people with expired ID, but it's generally a real sh*t show when it does happen. Here's someone who is trying to log on to an account, usually on a deadline, and not only can they not do that since we can't verify their identity, but they've just discovered that they have bigger problems. Can't drive with an expired license; can't travel with an expired passport; difficulties with some medical procedures with expired medical card; etc.
The way to think about it is that when gov't issued ID expires it is not only no longer valid, but should be destroyed. Legally, presenting expired ID is the same as presenting fake ID.

I had an aunt that would come to a restaurant I worked at. It never failed, she would complain about her coffee not being hot. I would tell her if she didn't put so much cream in it it would probably be hot. I told her nobody else ever complained about being served cold coffee. She would insist on having the coffee warmed up in the microwave. So I did. Lol. She would of course grab another creamer. As soon as she dumped it in the cup, lol, of course it overflowed from the cold meeting the hot. Of course she then complained about it being too hot. I told her to blow on it. Lol. She was a Karen even then long before the word meant anything more than a name.

The invalid ID - that's a well played game of "UNO reverse"... I had my ID re-done last year but not because it was expired. I had a small edge broken off and in Germany many people told me that it's no longer valid. So I got to have it re-done. When I once took a train to Salzburg, Austria (where I live now) on the way back the federal police of Germany walked trough the train, doing ID checks (and maybe checks for illegal immigrants) - as soon as I handed my ID, I also tried to hand the officer a letter stating the new ID is already ordered and it takes up to 6 weeks to be made. This officer said "your ID is broken, this couldn't be accepted" my response as his 3 colleagues are coming closer? "thats why I tried to hand you this here. I already ordered a new ID card but it's still in production..." I also scanned the QR code on the letter, logged in on the check page and showed him the "production in progress" shown on screen. He sure looked defeated and just said "sorry" - maybe he's the reason for a good laugh at the station and well, he's been pretty new to the force...
Don't get me wrong here, he's done his job well but he couldn't get it, why I tried to hand him the letter showing the ID in production

I had one woman who wanted to do a "return" for a sundress that was clearly too small for her, but she had no receipt, so we had to get information off her ID. The only one she presents expired DECADES ago; she no longer looks like her picture, and I'm pretty sure the format is older than I am. And of course, she thought this was enough, and that she knew an employee who she knew personally would vouch for her. Our manager permitted it, but only for store credit, as it was clear to everyone that she never actually purchased that dress to begin with. Some people.

@Old Man Jim The stupid real ID laws can make it hard to renew your license. Mine was expired for 2 years because I lost my birth certificate, and I live in my car, so I couldn't prove my residential address since I don't have one. Eventually, my sister helped me get a new birth certificate, and I found out that they now allow you to get real ID without an address if you sign something saying you're homeless. I did have to retake the driving test because my license was expired for over a year. I barely managed to pass the vision test, so that could have been another obstacle.

I actually have a funny story about a teacher myself. So there’s this teacher I don’t remember his initials so we shall call him Mr M. So one time we had Mr M as a substitute because our normal teacher was away, now Mr M was a bit of a smart ass and pretty rude to us students. So a couple days prior we had a test and I didn’t really think about it but when we had Mr M he asked us to do work on paper and hand it in even if we already have done it (so we would have to re-write) which I thought was stupid. Anyway when he was handing out the pieces of paper he completely missed the table me and my friends were on so of course we didn’t say anything knowing we didn’t have to do work. When the class ended he asked everyone to hand in the piece of paper and our table was last, when he got to ask he asked for the paper, I replied with “sir, you didn’t give us the paper to write on plus you didn’t even explain what we were meant to be doing.” Mr M replied with “well why didn’t you come up and ask for a paper?” My friend next to me interrupted with “dude, why on earth would we ask to do work when we know we could get away with not doing any.” He looked at us with anger and the bell rang, we grabbed our stuff and walked out and I don’t know what he did after that. 😊

Expired ID story: With the legal drinking age being 18, this is obviously not the US. But the part about expired ID's applies here as well. Justice was served even if the wine wasn't. I'm a retired truck driver. Here, you make damn sure your CDL is up to date as there are very large fines for driving with it (and/or your DOT medical card) being expired. Most good trucking companies will make sure you get home on time to renew it as they have the license in their files and they can be fined as well if it expires.
Deaf student story: I have heard about cochlear implants from a person who had them. He said that given the way they work, listening to music that he didn't already know was not really an option because of the way they worked. They simply did not have the complexity to provide the full effect of the music and he would miss much of it. If it was something he knew before going deaf, his memory filled in the blanks.
Under/over payment story: I like what OP did there. Many years back I lived in a medium sized city that collected a "city income tax". It wasn't that much (1%) but it was a pain as most companies either didn't withhold for it or didn't withhold enough to cover it come tax time. The city revenue department had a policy that city taxpayers didn't have to pay if their taxes were under X amount (a few dollars) as it would cost them more to process it and the amount would be held over and added to taxes due the following year. Well, one year I owed about $2, under the amount required to pay that year. I paid it anyway, by check, knowing it would cost them more to process it and damned if I was going to let them dun me even more the following year. And yes, they would add interest on the amount.
Hot gravy story: I'm sure that it being a small town with customers witnessing the whole thing, news of what happened spread pretty fast and most people probably thought she got what she richly deserved. She was almost certainly too embarrassed to try to take legal action with so many witnesses present.

The story on the apartment bill reminded me about a bill from my dentist. I never paid my dental office bill until after my dental insurance paid first (I had a family of 6 at the time and was sure where my copay standing was with the insurance company. ) So I received a bill from the dental office for a dollar. I thin k this is stupid on their part, postage, costom stationery , and office time yo send this bill cost more than the amount billed. So I ignored paying it. Next month, the same billing process took place. The third month, the same thing happened, but with a note that they would send the bill to collections. As with having a large family, someone was in need of dental care. So when I was at the dentist's office, I handed the account's payable clerk a check for a dollar and made the statement I think I won, and she just looked at me like what are you talking about. From that point on, I never received a bill for less than $10. From than on bill that was for less than that amount, it was noted as being written off as paid in full

Many years ago, I worked at a casino in Southern Indiana. Casino employees are required to wear their badge on their chest. So after 9 years, you get in the habit of just pointing to the badge when someone asked you for ID or they would simply see it and not bother to ask as you had to be 21 to work there. I am at home with my roommate and we are in a thunder storm. My roommate is standing in the kitchen and can see the driveway while I am laying on the couch. There is a loud crash outside and my friend turns around and says, "Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Now on the property were 2 Bartley Pear trees. I hate these damn trees because they grow fast and dies faster by spilitting out. Now I had on 3 previous occasions cut up this tree where pieces had fallen and if course these trees were on either side of the driveway. So I say good news please.
"Your know those trees you hate? They are both gone now. Bad news they teach fell across the sang driveway so our cats are trapped in the garage. We manage to get his vehicle out to go to Home Depot to rent a chainsaw. So I go to rent it and the guy says,"Do you realize your driver's license expired 3 years ago? 🤦‍♀️. People were trying to be smug and say "well we got this bill like two weeks ago into the new period and we refuse to pay it!", while they received the bill via e-mail the same day of the billing. The satisfaction, I got to tell them: "well, that is your choice. I can bill you for one month, since it is in our terms of service, which you agreed to. If you still refuse to pay, things will escalate and the firm responsible of covering of claims will contact you." Some people refused as far as that out of spite. In the '90s, I worked as a cashier for McDonald's in Florida, taking customer food orders. Most often, the public was nice, and they did not cause any problems. One afternoon though, a woman came into the restaurant and wanted a Filet O'Fish meal and an extra dollop of sauce. When the other cashier received a $10 bill, this woman complained the change was less than she thought it should be. I swear this person could not even do basic math. I explained to her that since the final amount was over $5, the change would be less than $3 and some change. On the cash register, it shows the difference on the screen for the customers to see.
When she got her order of the Filet O'Fish meal with the extra dollop of sauce on it, she complained the sandwich was too soggy. One of the assistant managers listened to the woman's complaint, and she took it upon herself to give her what she wanted with fresh hot food. This same woman decided to fill out a service complaint card because she liked being a Karen. I told the assistant manager to throw it out because you cannot please everybody.
That woman and her friends were there for quite a while, and one of the usual elderly customers showed up to get his senior coffee. Another assistant manager was trying to be cute by saying this old man was a grouch in a friendly way. When she asked me if this man was a grouch, I said, "Not as much as she is!" while pointing my finger at her. Immediately, that woman and her friends left and never saw them again. The saying, "The customer is always right" is not true. She should have realized that the extra dollop of fish sauce would make the sandwich soggy since one dollop is enough. These Karens are not the brightest bulb on the tree.

In most of Europe legal drinking age is 16. And the heavy stuff at 18.

Worked in retail. Too many people think expired id cards are still valid. Alcohol selling laws are strictly draconian. Everything has to be to the "T." Laws are specifically written to specify "valid I'd" which means once expired, they are no longer valid. It doesn't matter that the photo clearly shows the person standing in front of me but is expired and it's no longer valid for the purpose of purchasing alcohol.
Also had to card the entire group of people buying because "furnishing or causing the furnishment of alcohol" is illegal.

The expired ID confused me until I remembered that you use your drivers license for your ID. In South Africa we have separate ID so you can still have ID even if you don't drive. What do people that can't drive (blind etc)?

I got kicked out of my regular dispensary for having an expired ID. It was like DAYS after, I had renewed it online already and was in the limbo waiting time where it was floating around in the mail somewhere, and I had the paperwork proving this fact. I had done everything in my power to be within the law, so imagine my horror when I was told I couldn't go into my dispensary when my PTSD symptoms were amping up and I decided to try getting some sleep gummies. I was extremely polite to the staff up front and they were pretty meh about telling me I was screwed, but I kept my cool, and I sent my mother in with a post-it note containing a short list of my requested items. You'd think THAT would've been the thing they'd have a problem with -- we were NOT subtle at all about the fact that she was going in there to shop for ME, but oh no, that? They did NOT care about it. I was like uhhhh ok well I'll wait for you here, and I sat in a chair in the lobby (it's accessible to anyone who walks in the front door, but to get into the actual store area they have to buzz you into an always-locked door after checking your ID). The lady sees/hears all of this, says nothing, buzzes my mom in, says nothing, I sit there for about a minute and a half, she says nothing.... AND THEN suddenly she decides to tell me I'm not allowed to sit inside at all without my ID and I needed to get out. Ma'am what?! I don't really anger easily and I DEFINITELY hardly ever SHOW anger openly, but I was so irritated by her waiting to tell me that until my mom was inside WITH THE CAR KEYS, especially since she heard us talking about how I felt too crappy to wait in the heat and would wait in the A/C. I wasn't mean to that lady or anything, but I definitely slammed the front door open like the hulk and stormed out without a word, haha. My mom found me fuming, sitting on the curb alone in a bad part of town and she was not thrilled when I told her why I wasn't inside! So yeah, it's sorta happened to me before, but different. 😜

I love the DMV where I live. You go in for an driver's license issue (getting a new one, a renewal, etc), you walk out with the license IN YOUR HAND. No way are they going to mail a driver's license to you with all the shit that goes on with mail going through the USPS. Now, if they can only figure out how to get the registration renewal stickers to us without them having to go through the mail.

@@tinydancer7426 see the DMV here is such a nightmare that I would renew online every time if it were an option (you can only do it every other time, since you'll visibly age too much between photos if they don't drag you in there every few years 🙄😜)! Last renewal I did in person, I was waiting for like FOUR HOURS and I was forced to stand the entire time, without even being able to lean against a wall or anything, and I have a disability so I was in absolute AGONY after thirty minutes. Despite the photo being the size of a postage stamp, you can tell I've been holding back tears all morning in it, haha -- you KNOW you're desperate to avoid the DMV when you choose to renew online and KEEP a photo that bad for another cycle!! 😂

While fluff makes a good point about food being too hot he makes no mention of when it’s too cold I hate it when I order a burger with cheese and the cheese is not melted and actually cold
