Very...VERY few things are genuinely new ideas. So don't worry about it, as long as they are well presented.

Do you think they were well presented?

We sailed the Sun for 7 nights in August. Our first cruise in 2003 was on the last Sun Princess. We have also sailed on the Ruby, the Crown, the Sapphire, and the Regal. We have like the evolution over time. We feel like they actually read our after cruise surveys and implemented items we wanted. The new Sun is a fine ship, but it is odd to see how many changes they are making to a new vessel. I suspect that the planning was probably affected by the pandemic and some details were lost in a Zoom Meeting. Overall, we really enjoyed the whole trip. We had a suite near Love by Britto and loved the cabin, the location and the service level. The Signature Dining Room was exceptional; the whole staff was attentive and friendly. But the location never made sense to me. Why put a private dining room in the most public area of the ship? The Horizon anytime dining room still had lines down the corridor on our sailing. Never had problems with anytime options on other Princess ships in the past, not sure why this was a such a mess. The whole Park 19 debacle still seems odd. How can experienced designers build an area that won't pass insurance certifications? And now it will be the "Sky Deck and Track"? It sounds like they changed their target audience. I think the new changes to the Premier package and Sanctuary class and the associated dining room moves are going to add to that "Big ship, small venues" feel. Unlimited Specialty Dines for Premier is not much of a perk if you can't can't reservations. I still loved the ship and my cruise in general. I hope Sun finds her identity.

I want to sail it again after they make the updates and see how it changes things.

"Huge ship....venues are very small" - I think cruise ships should be built to accommodate all paying passengers. I don't like hearing "first come"... Rather go on a smaller ship, where everyone is accommodated. Thanks for the details you provided.

It does take some getting used to.

All cruise lines "steal" design ideas from one another. I believe Princess was the first cruise line with outdoor movie screens "Movies Under the Stars" and now this is found on numerous lines. Princess was also one of the first cruiselines to build large quantities and promote balconies on their ships. Prior to this only people who could afford suites could have a balcony. Good ideas benefit all of us avid cruisers.

Thanks for weighing in. I do have a pet peeve though when a cruise line claims they are the first to do something and they are not. I don't love when they copy each other. I want ships to be different. I like sailing all the different and having a different experience.
