Very nice presentation, but I too would use Klotz castor and Techniplate synthetic mix.
Very easy math to do, nice notes as well.

Doing all the math (roughly give or take 5%) to make your own 3 gallons cost around $142. Buying 30% at the hobby shop currently cost between $35-50 bucks a gallon. I’m currently able to get 6 gallon cases from vp fuels of there best blend for around $211 which I pick up. For someone far from a hobby shop this method is better because I’m sure shipping a 6 gallon case would cost a lot but for me the only reason to do this would be if I could make a better blend which I don’t believe I can. Still a great video just wish it was a way to cut some cost down on how much nitro has become. This was based on a gallon of pure nitro being $83 from torco, a 5 gallon jug of methanol is $61 however you only need 3 gallons to every gallon of nitro so at that price I just put $40 for the 3 gallons I would need and then $19 for a 33 ounce jug of Castrol oil from maxima, those amounts would all make a little over 3 gallons. Wild how the oil industry has calculated all this to make sure we buy from them or pay more to make our own gas.

  • @ray4493

Well Nitro methane works as a catalyst providing extra O2 to get the combustion going. If you are out of it then simply do it with Methanol. OH will get the job done. But importantly do use oil. Don't use Methanol directly. No lubrication will cause some heavy damage to engine.

To be honest home made fuel especially yours probably works and performs way better than other factory prepped fuel, who knows what factories use in factory prepped fuel. And that is it's true nitro fuel color too, all these other fuels are like blue, green or orange

Thanks Shane for the informative video.
I am surprised that you don't wear gloves while mixing the ingredients. Methanol is very, very toxic and is absorbed through the skin (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methanol_toxicity).
I would certainly advise anybody mixing their own glow fuel to wear gloves and safety glasses (a splash of methanol in the eyes could easily happen and would have serious consequences). Just my two cents.
Have fun out there and be safe!

When i was young and had enought time, i use to play with aereo models, whose motor fuel was of a mix of methanol and RICIN OIL ( NO CASTOR OIL, not so much soluble in methanol ). Ricin oil dissolves easy and fully in methanol ( ricin oil also fully dissolves in water, as methanol too ... ). The problem with ricin oil is that - after burning - thay say it forms the so called "rubbers" ( which need to completly dismontle and properly wash the motor after some working hours ... but i never did that, with no problems ... ).
Another advantage of ricin oil is that, after playing with the motor, there are no "oil" stains around, no dirty shirts or hands ... all can be easily clean just with water !
I think however it's cost much more than castor oil ...

you should use klots benol castor oil it's triple distilled it's triple fortified and it's degumed and it has anticorosion agents as Well it is twice as lubricating as stadard castor oil I use about 8percent oil with no nitro or a 6percent oil with 6 perecent nitro I've used 7 gallons in the engine and still going hard I get 38 minits a tank it such good oil it needs half the richness compare to norm oil and it mixes without shaking castor is old school and u need twice as much as clots benol oil.

So I did the math @ 150 with shipping for the 5 gal Methanol 50$ for 1 gal of nitro methane and 12$ for a 10oz of Castor oil that is 212$ to only make 3 gal fuel. to make 3 more would need to buy 1 more gal of nitro methane and 2 more bottles of caster oil to make a total of 6 gal and have only 2 gal of methanol left total cost for 6 gal is 300 to make 6 gal of fuel = 50$ 1 gal of pure homemade nitro fuel That seems like a lot to me??

I got the methanol and nitromethane from a racing fuel shop hear in Houston Texas called HYPERFUELS. Most drag strips have it also. From what I have gathered some states will not sell it or people don’t know where to look for it. Yes there is synthetic blend in some fuels but I was trying to show just how easy it is to make. I also have to add you should where gloves while handling it or JUST NOT GET IT ON YOU! We all handle hot water and it will burn you if you pour it on you hand so use that same mindset when handling it.( There you go U tube safety police!) As for the toilet lol hell yeah seat up like a mans shop should be. Yes I reload ammo every man should learn how to reload there is something about it that once you start you can’t stop it is one of my favorite hobby’s.

If you have a smart device which you do to be here and don't know how to find a conversion table then perhaps you should be buying ready mixed.

To answer your OP if I take 600 mils, 300 mils and 100 mils I would have a litre? If I want 5 litres then x 5 maybe or varied for the ratio of the mix that you are making, no?

Yea I just pulled mine out of storage, a few years old. Had a little gas sitting in the case this whole time. Gunked the motor, harder than hell to turn. Just dump a little fresh gas down the head, and turn with a pair of channel locks. Freed it right up.

    • @reidgleason7862
      @reidgleason7862 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Food coloring is water based which would cause problems. Some also have sugar in them and that would gunk up your engine on combustion. Best not to use food coloring. They make fuel coloring additives but they are usually expensive and not worth it.
